This was an excellent choice! It was super super clean. I even let my baby crawl all over the room. The staff was helpful...the room was magnificent. We went with our sons, infant and 5 years old. It was perfect. The location was safe the metro was just 1 1/2 blocks away. Valet parking was convenient. There is a grocery store right by. Students are all around at all times so the environment was great and calm. I am going back and staying here again, no doubt about it.

The best: LOCATION, it was merely a 5 minute walk to the nearest subway or bus. Rooms are really really big, well equipped kitchenette, high speed internet is really high speed. A really nice, safe, beautiful neighborhood. It`s definitely the place to stay if you`re going to Washington on bussines or leisure.

The River Inn appears to have been renovated in the not too distant past and is quite comfortable and well appointed, though not oppulent. Every room is a suite, and although we didn't intend to use the kitchen originally, it proved to be a welcome addition for early morning breakfast on the run, or evening wine and cheese or popcorn. The rooms are large enough to avoid cramping a family of three or four, but more than two adults might be a stretch. Everything is clean and well-maintained, and towels and other conveniences are very nice. Above all, the location of The River Inn is very well-suited for a DC vacation. It sits on the edge of Georgetown, within a two block walk of M Street in one direction, and the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro Station in the other. The Watergate Complex and a Safeway are less than a 5 minute walk, and excellent restaurants abound within a radius of a few blocks. The hotel restaurant (Dish) seems more oriented toward the gourmet than the hotel ambiance might lead one to expect, and the food there, though delicious, is pricier than may suit all travelers. We found the nearby Georgetown restaurants, steakhouses, and bar and grill ranks, featuring local crab dishes, more to our liking. Shoppers will enjoy the boutiques along M Street as well.

If we were very happy with the room (we were upgraded et we had a kitchen and a dinig room in our "bedroom"), there is still a little problem with that hotel : the breakfast is really expensive and not worthy. People should better avoid the hotel's breakfast and eat at their bedroom (if there is a kitchen : that is what we did) or in the city (but we haven't try any restaurant outside).

I highly recommend it families, but make sure to upgrade to the Potomac Suite if you have more than one child...it is incredibly spacious and comfortable ! The hotel is also in a precious neighborhood and in walking distance to restaurants & shops in Georgetown and the Metro is easily accessible. I highly recommend this hotel and will return SOON!

I had quite high expectations for this hotel and was a bit disappointed. The continental breakfast in the morning was bread and juice (what a bargain at $10!). We never got turndown service (or chocolate) for our bed. The room was smaller than expected and the kitchen was quite shabby. Vents in the kitchen and bathroom connected DIRECTLY to the room next door from which we could hear everything! On the plus side: the staff was helpful; the lobby was cozy; the neighborhood is nice; and the windows in the room were fantastic.

After much searching for a decent hotel close to all the D.C. sights, I settled on the River Inn. I could not have been more happy with my choice. I spent 12 days as a guest, and did not have a single problem or complaint. The staff without exception were pleasant and helpful, the room was clean and comfortable, and it was in a safe and quiet upscale neighborhood. It was a three minute walk to the nearest metro station at GWU, and then only a few stops to get to the Mall. Nearby there is a 7-11 and a nice grocery store. A brisk 15 minute walk will get you to a wonderful area with shops and bookstores. I will make sure to use the River Inn next time I'm in town!

River Inn is a good place to stay for those wanting to see the Mall and enjoy Georgetown and Dupont Circle, as Foggy Bottom is centrally located. The staff is helpful and offers good recommendations on places to eat/getting around for first-time travelers to D.C. The kitchenette in the room is also handy, as is the Metro stop at the GW University campus. One caveat is that the room was a bit stuffy...we were there in the fall, and there may have been issues of AC vs. heat competing. Still, would definitely stay there again. Good hotel at a reasonable price in a convenient, quiet location.

A market was close by to pick up breakfast stuff and munchies. Georgetown was a 5 minute walk. A wonderful Pub was 2 minutes away with great food. We walked to the Mall and Lincoln Mem. This really is a walking town. Make sure you wear sneakers for walking! The resturant has a ltd. menue, but the food is great!

River Inn is one of the lower cost options in Georgetown, but it's not a dive, not at all. Our room was large and comfortable, the furnishings were nice, it was clean, and the staff was competent. The rooms are converted apartments, and include kitchens. We didn't use ours. The location is great, about a 5 or 10 minute walk from all the shops & restaurants on M St. in Georgetown, or about 15 minutes to the Mall and monuments. The only hassle was parking -- there is none -- so you have to leave it with the valet for $20/night.

This was our first trip to Washington DC, and this hotel is 2 blocks from the METRO, very safe to walk at night (a block away from George Washington University-lots of kids walking all the time), 2 blocks from a Safeway Grocery store in Watergate Plaza, and a block from the 7-11. We enjoyed our stay and would stay there again! Can't review the "Dish" - we didn't eat there.

Good things about the River Inn, Great Location, beautiful street, Walking distance to Georgetown, Washington Harbor and Subway. Wonderful place to stay if looking for a safe, cleaner part of the city. Staff is friendly and corporate suite is pretty big with kitchen and amenities. Not so good things about the River Inn, parking is very limited, we had to park 3 blocks away in an expensive parking garage. Hotel had a slight smell, probably because it is an older building. The stairwell was the worst part it smelled strongly of stale beer. We had breakfast at the hotel restaurant "The Dish". Way too expensive for what you get. Overall, we had a nice stay and would recommend it mainly because it is in a great spot for tourists.

I, along with my family, was very pleased with The River Inn. The staff was professional and accommodating to all our requests. I liked the style of The River Inn. It wasn't like the "hotel" kind of feel that you get at most hotels. There was a kind of personal, casual sophistication about the place that I liked. I liked the lay out of the rooms which featured amenities such as a little kitchen area that would be most convenient for a longer stay. It was in the middle of a residential area and conveniently located to major sights and Georgetown by way of a healthy walk or a short Metro trip. I chose The River Inn because of the price and the reviews seemed positive and reasonable. I think we got our moneys worth and more. I definitely would recommend this place and return next time in D.C.

Overall pleased with this hotel and would go back. Good location, quiet, easy access to transit and walking distance from Georgetown. The staff was very pleasant and it was great to have a room with kitchen facilities. Only one problem: The River Inn posted hours of the associated restaurant "Dish" which was helpful, except they didn't include information regarding early closing early one night. If you think that you will be dining and don't make reservations be sure to check with the front desk.

A lovely hotel with a wonderfully friendly staff. The rooms were probably recently remodeled but still need some work--e.g., rust around the metal windowsill in the shower, peeling wallpaper.
