The service for a hotel of this calibre was surprising. Maids skipped cleaning the bathroom entirely and changing out towels. When I called for new towels (they had taken the old ones) they took almost 45 minutes to bring them up. Room service, While I know room service is expensive, it is subject to $3 surplus charge, auto 18% gratuity and prices are about 25% more, yet and still, the menu selection was extremely limited and the food quality was poor. Internet was $10 a day and was a production to hook up, thorough a third party contractor. Presentation was good but oh what a dissapointment when I took a bite. Lobby employees and bar staff were exceptional but thats just for the ground floor, I felt that the service beyond the bellhops and concierge was no better than a hotel of a much lesser grade the food definately was not any better.

Not impressed! Cost a fortune to stay there, not even coffee in the room. Bar & resturant were also very expensive for what you received.

I would recommend The Madison to business professionals or travelers who are looking for service rather than amenities. There are no ice or soda machines and the rooms do not have coffee makers. Room service will provide ice, coffee etc-- for a fee. The Federalist restaurant located in the lobby is $$$ expensive and anyone on a budget or without an expense account will probably prefer the Palette which is located next door. It's quite good and more modestly priced. The hotel offers both a fitness center as well as business center on the second floor. I didn't mind the hotels location but I enjoy walking. Anyone who does not will need to use one of the taxis waitng right outside the front doors. The M is aprox 4 blocks away. The service shines at The Madison. The doorman, consierge and front desk are first rate. They were ready to help solve any problems we had, including locating our lost baggage which United Airlines misplaced.

This is a fine hotel. The staff is friendly, the rooms are large and comfortable, the beds heavenly, the bathrooms large and overall,it is highly recommended. However, there are a few things that could be better. First, the lobby bar is understaffed and the service slow and frustrating. Second, room service has a hard time with special requests (such as requests for ice water, extra jelly--little things like that.) But, other than these little shortfalls, I would certainly stay at The Madison again.

My husband and I stayed at The Madison for a long weekend in D.C. and were very happy with our experience. The room was very comfortable, with extra attention given to high quality bed linens and tasteful decor. We had a minor problem early on with our internet connection in the room, which the hotel handled immediately, and moved us to another room. Other than that, we had no complaints. In fact, the service was over the top. Everyone we met went out of their way to make sure that our weekend was wonderful. We would definitely stay at The Madison again.

Acceptable business hotel; very well located in DC. Rooms clean reasonably nice. Service acceptable but not outstanding. The hotel had some problems. First, this hotel may be a frequent target for VIPs staying in DC, which can be a real mess for civilians staying there. Second, the air conditioner in the room is fairly loud. Third, the card key system for our room failed several times forcing us to call the front desk to get into our room. Fourth, the restaurant had lower than average service and food quality and much higher than average prices FOR A HOTEL RESTAURANT which is saying something. When we finally did get seated the dining room was freezing and we had to return to our room to get coats (it was about 85 outside). We were finally given menus and ordered, and then were given our ration of two small slices of bread, which seems a bit paltry for what turned out to be a $80+ meal for two (no wine or drinks). We learned the two quarts of water we consumed ("Fiji" brand, which can be had at any quicky-mart for $.99 a quart) totalled $10. A $30 steak is average for a higher-end hotel restaurant, but the water was userous especially when combined with the overall service, which was not as good as, say, your average Denny's restaurant. So with the above caveats, this is a reasonable choice for a hotel, and I'd stay here again if my choices were limited.

This is a wonderful hotel. My daughter and I fell in love with it the moment we stepped into the lobby. It was just exquisite! Our room was very lovely. The colors in the room were very soft. The beds were all done up in this crisp white linen, so divine. We were anticipating a good night's rest. The restaurants were also very nice. It has been a long time since I have experienced such service from hotel staff. The location was perfect, 3 blocks from the metro. We walked to Georgetown; it was a great walk lots to see and nice shops along the way. We would love to return and do this all over again.

Not only is this a beautiful hotel, appointed with fabulous furnishings, but the personnell are first rate, too! Doormen and bellhops competed for the honor of opening the door for us, greeting us each time we came or left, asked if we needed a taxi, and greeted our little niece with, "Hello, Princess!" We felt like royalty! The rooms were not huge, but very comfortable, and we were centrally located, able to walk or take the Metro everywhere! It was just wonderful......oh, and the comforters were down, covered with at least 300 count cotton sheets! Great!
