The service was wonderful, the staff friendly. I considered it an honor to be aboard a ship that was put into service during WWII. There is so much history attached to the Queen Mary, a lot of it visibly available in the ship's museum. It was easy to imagine what it must have been like to be a passenger when she was in commission. I was compelled to buy a book to get all the details. Go...you wont soon forget the experience.

It's interesting to explore the ship. However, the place needs a good sprucing up. Many of the interesting rooms - first class dinning room, ball rooms - are open for functions only. You get the feeling that there are some great rooms hidden behind the closed doors.

Checked into the hotel on a Thursday afternoon. We were surprised when the hotel presented us with free coupons to visit the Titanic Exhibit, the Ghosts and Legends Tour and the submarine tour. Thursday evening we went to the comedy club and really enjoyed ourselves. Had dinner in the Promenade Restaurant. Prime Rib was reasonably priced, very good and a nice view of the city of Long Beach. Friday we did the tours and thorougly enjoyed all three! Our room had a king sized bed, very clean and comfortable. All of the staff were very courteous and more than helpful. The ship is old and is in need of some updates but overall it definitely is a step back to a time when ship traveling was glamorous!

While the solid wood cabinets with marble tops were a nice nostalgic touch, this hotel is definitely past its prime. Everything was clean, though. My room was perfectly adequate, but the other room that was booked at the same time for the same rate was so small my colleague could barely turn around in it! Also, I never could retrieve messages as the call buttons on my phone didn't work. Early one morning, there was a noise outside that sounded like a screaming banshee! Of course, the boat is reputed to be haunted, so that might explain it. Next time I go to Long Beach on business, I will book elsewehere.

The room was great. Such a historic atmosphere. Chelsea's and The Promenade Cafe had great food. And for a laugh stop by the comedy club. There is also a shuttle service that runs every 15 mins that will take you into downtown and Shoreline village. The Reef is another restaurant close by that is worth a visit

This Hotel was understaffed, needed more to do, better restaurants at a good price, and more comfort. We realize this is an old ship but accomodations can be much better. Basically for the price you are paying only for the historical experiences. Yes, if you want to meet ghosts first hand this is the place to stay. Both couples had unexplained experiences that were well worth the stay. No one can tell me GHOSTS were not with us in our rooms as no other explanation exists. The tours guides should take better interest in what they do and not be apathetic. The Queen Mary has much history and could be shown better. Our main complaint was that we did not get the actual rooms we booked by seeing the virtual tour on Expedia. Both of us couples were switched when we got there to twin beds and the rooms they could not fill. Then we are told to read the fine print. This must be common practice by the Hotel as we heard complaints. We did not get the actual rooms we booked with the wood paneling, historical accuracy, and king beds. We asked to speak to the Manager and he gave us double beds but we still did not get the class of room we booked even though they were only part booked. Instead of the Middle Class and got the lower Class rooms. Anyone willing to walk in a pay a higher price will get those but not through Expedia. I highly recommend it for the History and ghostly experiences. Thanks Sharon

It was somethig we wanted to do for a long time and that was stay at the Queen Mary. We enjoyed the experience very much, but I must say there was one good reason. That was because it was the middle of the week and they were not busy, so they up graded us to a King/3 room. It was just one night and we did have dinner on the ship, so our over all experience was positive. I would go back if I could be guaranteed the same up grade.

For all the hype, it's not worth it. It seems like the management hasn't invested any money in a long time in keeping the hotel in shape. It's quite run down. The outlets were coming off the walls, there's only TV internet in the room, but free wireless in a lounge, the cafes/ shops/ restaurants are mostly inexistant or closed. Moreover, it's impossible to walk anywhere from the hotel.

Flying into Long Beach we decided it would be fun to stay on the boat, and it was listed as three stars so we thought there would be a certain standard. The sheets felt dirty, the bathroom felt dirty and we couldn't wait to get out of there. Arriving around 10:30pm, we asked if any of the four restaurants were open, which they weren't, which is a little strange considering there are hundreds of rooms. There was also no room service and when we asked what we could do to get a bite, the response was "I don't know - go to town?" and then we were also given the number for Domino's pizza. Definitely one to avoid.

Its still a grand ocean liner and a stay on board will give you something of the flavour of the period of the great liners and the Blue Ribband races. We found our designated cabin (queen) small compared with our travel mate's twin; so we asked to change and the management were helpful, though somewhat out of touch with the cabins. Dining on board ranges from quite acceptable (food, service and price)to very expensive. There are plenty of restaurants near-by in Long Beach to visit as well as the fantastic aquarium. The exhibition of Titanic artifacts was very interesting and well laid-out. The on-board shops are worth a visit. Its a great pity that the pool is not open and that the staff do not really live up to the reputation of those of the crew of a grand ocean liner. Having said all these things, I would recommend a trip. Check the room rates carefully!

Pros: Great atmosphere, historical, pleased with the size of room, friendly staff, lots to do nearby, request ocean view as you get spectacular view of downtown and ocean. Cons: Very little privacy as walls are extremely thin, almost no water pressure, water does not get very hot, room not as clean as it could be. Would recommend staying there just for the feeling of it. However I warn you that even a normal conversation will be heard by your neighbor.

I stayed 4 nights and must say it was an interesting expierience. The ship has quite a history much of which I really had no idea. It is also rumored to be haunted. After this past weekend I would say that it's not a rumor. Lots of interesting little things happened in my room and after taking the ghost tour, on my last day there, that the ship offers everything seemed to make sense. There was free bus service into the city so you weren't limited to just the restaurants on the ship. I can't wait to go back.

I was in town for a convention in L.A. and decided it would be interesting to stay on this historic ship. The expedia.com pricing was very reasonable. I didn't expect the experience to be as great as it was! The first thing we noticed was the customer service. My cousin and I had purchased the cheapest room to save money. The desk clerk noticed that a better room was available and immediately upgraded us (at no additional cost)! When any request was made, they delivered promptly. Service was very professional. Not only was touring the ship enjoyable, but the additional Russian Submarine tour was great - and the Titanic exhibit was on the ship as well! The opportunity to see these was special. We were concerned about transportation to L.A. from the ship, but we soon learned that was unnecessary. The shuttle picks you up at the ship to the metro stop, and the subway ride is about 35 to 40 mins to downtown L.A. - a good time to prepare for meetings and work before arriving. I couldn't have been more pleased with the experience. Additional notes - the restaurants are top notch (somewhat pricey but worth it), the atmosphere is elegant, great for family trips. I look forward to reserving my room at the Queen Mary for my next meeting in L.A. later this year. Highly recommended!!

Guests should feel honoured to stay in such a beautiful and historic ship, but at the same time, they need to realise that her facilities will not be as extensive as those in a modern hotel. My husband and I love the Art Deco interior, and we're content to wander about for hours, finding decorated windows or displays and photographs around the ship. The service is below par, however. Some of the staff seem poorly trained, and their English is not very good.

The state rooms while basic have been preserved with the original woodwork and fittings. The soundproofing isn't good so I could hear the wedding parties until midnight - but personally it did not bother me. Thje Sunday Brunch is awesome. The family stayed here for one night and the kids loved it. After reading some of the reviews I was worried about the condition of the room and knew that the rooms had not been renovated. However, the room was clean and did not smell. The front desk was very polite and I did not hear any noises all night long. I noticed that a lot of plaster had been recently repaired in the hallways. The price of the meals would compare to any hotel these days and, in fact, we enjoyed our breakfast at the promenade cafe. The kids meals were larger than most hotels. It is not a place to stay for an extended period of time, but definetely worth the experience.

I know why this ship is said to be haunted. Everywhere I looked, there was a sense of another place in time. Peering out of the portholes in our room, I thought about those who crossed the Atlantic looking through this same porthole. The room itself was very small. Friends who stayed on board told me their rooms were large for a ship cabin. Others also told me their rooms had tubs with salt and fresh water, but my room had only a shower. For the price I paid I really expected more. One aspect of modern living that nearly ruined my stay was the parking situation. There was a concert and a circus going on, and it took over an hour and a half of circling the parking lot to find a space. However, the manager rectified the situation with tickets to the Ghost and Legends Tour. I would compare it to the QM's Halloween Shipwreck without the monsters. Two teenage girls on the tour were so scared they were crying. Another great feature on board was the Sunday Brunch. Delicious! The dining room also evoked a sense of the ship's bygone era. It gave a glimpse of what the first class diners would have enjoyed.

Hotel is a wonderful step back to the past. What a beautiful ship this was in it's day. It's showing signs of economic difficulties, and it's current state of repair is 7.5/10. My room was surprisingly very large, but the old beds were not too comfortable. The room had no sound deadening. I could hear everything outside the room, and the hotel catering was constantly pushing large, noisey food carts down the hall, starting at 7:00 in the morning. At one point I tried to answer the ringing phone, only to realize it was the neighbors phone. The clientel was a mix, with many that appeared to be wanting to take a cruise but couldn't afford it, so this was their vacation. Still, the place has a great deal of charm, and if you're not looking for total peace and quiet this is a fun place to stay. I hope the owners find a way to up the quality of the place as it would make a wonderful setting for a top notch hotel.

The Queen Mary Hotel was quite an experience! The Hotel ambiance takes you back in time, even the bathroom fixtures are "antiquated." I felt like I was living in 1934. The harbor view at night is nothing short of spectacular! The only thing I could say I missed was "central air" in my room. There are cold and warm air vents, but from 1934 (I could say it was part of experiencing that era). I would definitely go back! Great place for the kids!

If you're a history buff and have a thing for "old spaces," you may enjoy your stay at the Queen Mary, a retired cruise ship purchased by the city of Long Beach and pressed into service as a hotel. If it's comfortable digs and amenities you seek while on your travels, this is not the hotel for you! In an effort to retain the cruise ship's historic "charm," the owners have retained all the original paneling, lighting, fixtures, etc. Unfortunately, this stuff is in dire need of repair and updating (the bathroom actually gave me the creeps, and I found the numerous unpainted plaster patches in the ceiling to be less than appealing). Personally I would suggest tearing most of the rooms out and "restoring" them with new materials. The food was average at best. The good news is that during my stay, the Queen Mary was hosting exhibits on the Titanic and Marilyn Monroe. Unfortunately, both close at 6 p.m., and I arrived at 6 p.m. and was only staying over night so plan accordingly if you want to visit the exhibits.
