Had a nice room on the 11th floor with a great view. The room was comfy and clean. However, I would suggest that Expedia users might want to check to make sure the room they select is not too close to the elevators. I was tired, so it didn't bother me too much, but really light sleepers might be bothered by the sound of the elevator going up and down all night! Otherwise, pretty good stay. I even got to take my bicycle up to my room via the elevator. I was worried I'd have to leave it on my car rack or locked up somwhere far away. The bell person who brought me up to my room suggested that I just take it to my room, since bike racers do that all the time! No one looked at me twice when I rolled my bike through the hotel lobby. Terrific!

My husband and I were traveling with his mom (74)and I requested our rooms be as close as possible. When we arrived they had us in 2 different towers. They did the best they could to fix it but we were still 15 rooms away from each other. The beds are so hard it was like sleeping on a pool table, just aweful. We won't book there again.

I reserved non-smoking rooms, but were given smoking rooms anyway. When we asked for non-smoking rooms, they told us that they had only 1 and that it had no water. The shower had no water pressure and hardly any hot water at all. The carpets were badly stained and the beds were rock hard. Also, there was a train that ran right outside our window that woke us up constantly. I give extremely high marks to Mel's Diner, an "American Graffiti" themed 24 hour diner. The food was great and the prices were reasonable. The staff was very friendly and attentive. I would go back to the Sands specifically to eat at Mel's. One other thing about dining at the Sands, do not go to Tony Roma's. The staff was so rude!!!

I was in Reno for a bowling tournament and was only there overnight. I would have to say the hotel & casino were just fine and the price was right. I enjoyed breakfast at Mel's Diner in the hotel. Reno itself? Not so impressed...at all...old and dirty. But the hotel? It was probably the best part of my trip!

During my husband's and I recent stay at the Sands we found the staff to be very pleasant and helpful. The food at each of the restaurants was good quality and reasonable. The comedy show was entertaining. Our room was clean and outside noise was minimal. Overall, for an older hotel, the Sands was comfortable and reasonable. Too bad, we didn't have any luck at the gaming machines. We enjoyed our stay.

Hotel was adequate. Staff very friendly and helpful. The best quality was the health club on the 17th floor, just for the view, pretty awesome. If you get tired of gambling rent a bike and check-out the Truckee river path 4 blocks away. Rental shop is on the premises. Be advised there are quite a few vagrants strolling the streets and the Sands is a couple of blocks from the strip so be on the alert.

The price was very reasonable, the staff we dealt with was very accommodating and nice and the room was clean. There weren't many amenities, no coffee in the room, 1 coffee shop that was good, 1 restaurant (Mel's) that was terrible, Tony Roma's which was excellent. Disappointed that their buffet was only open for breakfast. Several blocks away from main drag which is not bad in good weather, however; in bad weather it can be quite a walk.

The weekend we spent there was a college "ski - get away" weekend and the place was infested with 20 somethings drunk and rowdy. The hotel did a fairly decent job of keeping them intact. Thier seemed to be ample security and clean up crews. Our room was always cleaned and stocked with fresh linens. All in all a good place to stay for the $.

Rooms were in dire need of renovation. Filthy, stained carpet, bugs and rock hard beds did not provide for a pleasant stay. Staff at reception was unfriendly. Lack of cocktail waitresses. Location is great but would not stay at these premises again unless the hotel (or at least the part we stayed in) was to undergo major renovation.

It appears this hotel added 3 floors, 15, 16, and 17. We stayed 2 nights on the 15th floor; nice non-smoking room, newer, but the towels smelled of smoke. After our conference in Tahoe we drove back to Reno due to early flights and stayed one more night at Sands, on the 14th floor. Room in shabier condition and one room had been vandalized--the hard-wired hair dryer had been ripped out of the wall, outlet included, and bare wires were hanging next to the sink! They changed our room no problem but that one room should not have been 'available' to rent! The casino stank of cigarettes and they definately deal with a rougher clientele. You can walk only a cpl of blocks to nicer casinos, however.

I would definitely stay at the Sands again. Granted, it is not the glitziest of hotels BUT for the price, it was certainly worth it. All the staff at the hotel were pleasant and the rooms were neat. I will say that there is a smokiness to the casino and it could probably due with an update to the filtration system BUT the casino was still fun with a little bit for everyone. Not necessarily a "kid" friendly atmosphere but good for adults. Close proximity to the other casinos and sites in downtown Reno.

This hotel is an "okay" hotel. The room was in average condition. Their parking was limited, but we always were able to find a stall after a few minutes. We only were there for a few hours to sleep, so we didn't really utilize the amenities, services, etc. The toilet seat was disgusting..we had to place t-paper on the seat everytime we used it because it was so old and the paint was "gone". We had to leave notes @ times for the housekeeper to replace tissue, etc. There are trains that pass by the hotels downtown starting from 11pm to 4 am every day. It's hard to sleep when the entire room vibrates. I could not understand why the trains continuously blow their horn throughout the night/early morning when they are passing by major hotels. I thought this was unnecessary. The housekeepers were friendly. The front desk clerk (male) that was working on Sunday, Oct. 23rd at 4:00 a.m. when I was checking out was unprofessional and rude. I stood there for five minutes, he did not acknowledge me and I had to "interrupt" him. He coldly told me to "just put your keys anywhere." I placed it at the desk and was surprised at his lack of customer service. As mentioned earlier, conveniently located near major hotels and easily accessible to freeway, etc.

We stayed in the renovated tower for a week on our recent vacation. Renovated is a definite overstatement unless they planned for it to look like a room from the 70's. However, it was very spacious, clean, and quiet except for the occassional train. We ate at Mel's Diner several times and went to the comedy club with positive outcomes. We were able to walk around downtown & to the river which was a nice feature.

The ability to breath was removed from the reservation desk to the elevators! The exhaust system in the casino was so bad that we could not breath anything but smoke while in the lobby area. The room was clear of smoke but the carpet had been laid so poorly that there were gaps between the seams. The bed was like camping on a sheet of plywood! Now I normally do not expect much in a bed, so I bring my own pillows when we travel, but this was the worst two nights sleep we have ever had in Reno!!!!!
