This is a condotel. Each room is like a small efficiency with a kitchenette.Nice grounds and lawn with a row of trees right on the beach. There is a small mall right across the street with restaurants and shopping. Centally located and a short drive to most sights. The restaurant at the hotel was closed but there is a diner in the complex next door.

Ok, we went to Kauai for the first time and read the reviews on Expedia for this place and thought it was reasonably priced and good in terms of accomodations. The name of the hotel is "Islander on the Beach" which is what you should ask for if you can't find it. Let me tell you that when we booked it we asked for a King size bed and it was available or so it said on Expedia's site, but when we got there our room had 2 full size beds. We talked to the reservations desk and apparently the only big beds they have are queens and those are in the more expensive rooms. The reservations person was not very happy to help us and sounded a bit irritated. Plus our room was not ready at the supposed check in time so she just told us to sit around and wait. So we upgraded and paid more. It mentions on the site that there is a bar by the pool, yes there is but it was not open. there is no restaurant on the premises but it is right next to the coconut marketplace which has restaurants with poor and expensive food. There are other places around but you really have to search for them. The concierge can set you up with activities but it seems like there are deals all over that are generally cheaper. i would not recommend using their concierge. the vacation was good but the hotel was really lacking in everything. they are not very service oriented at all. if you expect hotel service stay somewhere else. this is more like a do it yourself. the pool is small too.

the room was very pleasant, nice big flatscreen tv with lots of channels, good view of the pool and ocean, nice deck. excellent beach-side location allowed for relaxing while kicking in a beach chair. pool was small and the hot tub not hot enough -- but this is no problem because you can simply visit the resort next door which has a superior restaurant -- hukilau grill -- and a nicer pool area with a good hot tub. it's open to the "public" so it's not wierd like you're poaching. the islander is located in the newer area of Kapa'a and thus nothing worthwhile is within walking distance unfortunately. you will have to drive a lot to get around as you always do on Kauaii. the islander is located behind a very silly tourist trap of a shopping center -- the coconut market -- however there is at least a general store where you can purchase much needed pina colada supplies.

Great Location in Kauai in Kapaa - in the middle of all the great tourist locations... and great Coconut Market Place has all the great food... Beach in front of hotel isnt' as swim friendly as maybe the "resort" beaches, but Kauai is not a resort kind of island... it's a get up off your lazy butt and go explore this amazing piece of land.... They were great to us - very accomodating and great price!!!! No Complaints~

Comfortable and well kept, the Islander was an acceptable hotel. The rooms had a small kitchen (sink, fridge and microwave), large TV and a complicated air conditioner. We left the screen door overlooking the ocean open 24/7, but wished for an outlet above the door for the breeze to flow through, as there wasn't a ceiling fan above the bed. The beach was adequate, and had a small pool for days of rough surf. The in-room high speed internet was rather expensive (free WiFi in the lobby), which is rather absurd in this day and age. The location is fairly central, although access to the main road can be difficult during the busier hours of the day. The room was rather expensive, but not out of line compared to the other local hotels.

Perfect location halfway between North shore and South shore. Convenient to resturants, grocery stores and shopping without being in a crowded atmosphere like Lihue or Poi'pu. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was always clean with a great view of the gardens and the ocean, even though we had a garden view room (we were in the Maui building). Very tranquil, relaxing atmosphere.

Location is central to most everything we did with drive times usually within an hour. We didn't hang at the hotel much since we usually left by 10am and returned by 8pm, but the setting is very nice with well kept grounds and pretty ocean view. The desk staff were all very friendly and helpful with exception of one (the only fair complected woman) who was uncomfortably 'cool'and 'snooty' acting. We had no problem finding a place to park but we did return prior to 8 each evening since it's dark by then. We made use of the laundry facility as well as checked our email on the guest computers in the lobby.

Absolutely loved this hotel! Our room had a view of the garden, pool and the ocean. The staff was so nice, room was kept clean. They are in the process of remodeling a building on the property to make it into a restaurant and gift shop, this will be great. It is a little tricky to find, it actually shares an entrance with several other resorts and the Coconut Marketplace, so go slowly when coming to this area. The garden has several types of trees including plumerias and after the rain in the early morning, it smelled heavenly!

The hotel and the grounds were fine as far as appearance goes. Good location. Close to shopping, dining and entertainment. My rela problem was with the hotel cleanliness and staff. The front desk people acted too busy and uninterested to give directions or to answer questions. The maid service was slow and inefficient. We stayed recently for eight nights and the bed linens were never changed, the floors (tile) were never cleaned and the one rug in the room was never vacuumed the entire time we were there. The water glasses in the room were never changed or cleaned for our entire stay either. Its too bad with a hotel in as beautiful an area as this one is and with such gorgeous grounds that they don't take a little better care with service. I was impressed with the hotel, the location and the beautiful grounds but the service was bad. I would not stay there again and would not recommend it to others until they improve the service.

We loved everything about this hotel except a few minor things. There were a couple of ladies at the front desk that were not very helpful and somewhat condescending, they didn't handle little problems well, put guests on defensive. Also, since most flights going home are late at night and you have to check out of room by noon, they should provide a place to shower and clean up before going to airport, other hotels do provide this service. Cleaning staff was awesome and grounds were spic and span and beautiful. Good location for middle of island.

This hotel is neatly maintained with good landscaping and great location on the beach. The plantation style buildings (7 or 8 total) are very attractive and provide good privacy, especially with a balcony overlooking the ocean. A big plus with the microwave and fridge. Being on the east shore, it's easy to get to the north and south shores for your excursions. Close to plenty of places to dine as well as the airport. Rooms were clean, but small. Beds might be a little small for couples who like to spread out when they sleep. The pool and jacuzzi were nice, and they have these cool little "napping huts" poolside. Great place in terms of location, you can get to either the South or North side of the island in less than an hour. Beach by hotel not the best for swimming( a bit rough), but still lovely to look at.

The Hotel is well located to see the rest of the Island. The ocean view that we had was absolutely great. We were about 40 yards from the beach and ocean and enjoyed the sound of the Ocean all day and night from our room and Lanai. The swimming pool was clean and had many lounge chairs around the pool. The grounds had a number of palm and blooming trees, many beautiful flowers and plants and were well kept. Our room had AC and even though it was not terribly hot, this was nice at night for sleeping. The only negative that we had was, we would have liked to have been able to get a drink from the pool bar, but it was closed. The pool area had several gas BBQ's which were clean and handy. We did not use them, but will if we return. The shopping at the Coconut Market place is a short walk and has many interesting and reasonably priced shops and eating places. The Luau discount from the Hotel was an excellent deal. Also the Helicopter trip that we booked through the hotel was the highlight of our trip. Two satisfied guests from Colorado

Nice hotel in a convenient location on the east side of the island (Kapaa). Many of the rooms have partial ocean views, and have been nicely updated. Though amenities are far cry from the resorts in Poipu, the price is much lower too. A/C smelled a bit of mildew so we just opened the glass sliding door on the balcony to air the room out. Walls are a bit thin so you can hear neighbors if they talk loud. Staff was very helpful and friendly.

The hotel was great, the rooms were clean, the staff was always cheerful and always helpful whenever you had a question or problem they there to take care of it. I would recommend it to any future traveler; it is located in a spot on the island that allows you easy access to the other parts of the island.
