I would recommend this hotel to the day trip type of traveler. I found this hotel on this website exactly as described. Personally, I don't want to pay premium prices if I'm going to be away from the hotel all day doing things. However, I do have some requirements. The hotel must be clean and safe. The Maui Seaside Hotel is only a minute from the airport. It's on a main street. It's surrounded by the beach, a large parking lot, street and a public park (i.e. no seedy neighbors). The hotel has a great courtyard with a nice pool and large grass lawn that leads to a beautiful, uncrowded beach. There is a small bay that is created by a large breakwater, so the water is calm and great for kids. The beach was private. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean and simple - minifrig, ironing board, dry cleaing pickup service, TV, A/C, elevator, daily maid service. The hotel was quiet. They have a security guard who walks the property all night. Kahului is centrally located. It's about 30 mins to Makena and Walai, and 60 mins to Lahina. Great value.

For those who want to relax Maui-style, this hotel is probably the best if not one of the best hotels to stay on Maui. Its location is away from all heavy tourist traffic like Lahaina, Kapalua, or Kehei. Kahului is the best spot on the island close to everything on Maui.

The room itself was rather big and the view from our room was quite nice. It has almost full cable which was a surprise. However, these bonuses were overshadowed by the horror that was the bathroom. Below I will detail all the issues we had with this hotel. 1.) Screaming pipes at 5 AM every single day. Imagine a tea kettle going off for approximate 45 minutes every morning... 2.) Shower head mounted at approx 5 ft, water pressure practically non existent. 3.) No bathroom fan, only a vent that you can see (and hear) into other rooms from. 4.) Soda machine completely empty for 2 days after we notified the front desk. 5.) Soda and Ice locked up after 10 pm. 6.) Ancient beds that rolled both sleepers to the middle were exacerbated by sheets that did not fit the bed. 7.) Parking woefully inadequate for the hotel guests when anything else (IE the canoe races) was going on. 8.) Canoe races that started at 8 AM and continued throughout the day... Amusement park style Screaming out the side window all day long. 9.) Phone lines which were incapable of connecting a modem at more than 24000 kbps.

I stayed at the seaside hotel in May 2006 for 5 days. The service was good everyone was very nice and the rooms were not bad. It is not a high end hotel so you can't go there with that in mind or you will be disappointed. The only reason I would not recommend this hotel is because for tourists there isn't much to do unless you drive to Lahaina or surrounding areas that are at least 30 - 45 min. away. We spent way too much time driving! The hotel is very much located in a industrial part of the island and if you are going to Hawaii for the "Island" experience you might not want to stay there. Room was clean and staff was friendly they are just not in a good location.

Our delux room was quite small and plain. Tour guests who were scheduled to leave around 7-7:30AM should have been instructed to kindly be quiet (since not all guests were not on the tour) or should have been quartered in one area of the hotel. Hotel staff was helpful and friendly.

Excellent service! The rooms were very relaxing & oceanview was fantastic. With a disabled oceanview - it was a nice upgrade if asked. However, I did find a roach roaming around the bathroom during late nite & went through the hole of the sliding bathroom door. I called the frontdesk, & they offered someone to come up & get rid of the problem, but it is the tropics anyhow, so we had a great time dispite this little weird mystery. The folks are real nice there & they are real helpful. The rooms were very clean & the experience was worth repeating. The Luau had great firework toward the end & food was good.

If you are expecting a full service resort experience, this is not the place for you. We got everything we expected and are very satisfied with our stay. We spent a very busy 5 days, 4 nights on Maui with no desire to hang around a hotel. This Hotel was very convenient to many of the major sites and attractions on Maui and to the airport. A major drawback to staying in the Kahului area is the long drive to Lahaina/Kaanapali side of Maui, expect heavy traffic going toward Lahaina in the evening. Our room was quiet, and comfortable. Front counter staff and security guard were friendly.Bring a hair dryer, none in room. Also no alarm clock but the automated wake up service on the room phone worked well, got us up the first morning at 2AM to go on a bike ride.

The room and amenities are out of date but clean enough.Bed is soft.Bathroom usable but outdated and clean. The location is very close to the airport and right on the beach so that is a plus. The breakfast was very good and the staff really friendly.

We booked this room because we needed an inexpensive room for the last night of our trip and this was the cheapest and closest to the airport. I thought it was going to be worse than it was. Pros: No pests or insects of any kind that I could see. Room had basic needs - bed, good-sized bathroom, A/C, television. Hotel staff were friendly. Located next to the water for a nice view during the day (not from inside the room). Free continental breakfast in the morning (donuts, muffins, toast, coffee, juice). Cons: Room had a strong, musty odor. We needed to open the windows and turn on the A/C to let it air out for a while. Overall, this hotel is good for what it is - cheap and close to the airport. I wouldn't stay here for more than a couple of days or if I was going to spend much time in my hotel room.

Very friendly employees. Small motel-style hotel with a great view upon entering. Received a free upgrade to a poolside room. Rooms were basic, but I was impressed that they replaced the bedspreads with brand new ones while we were there. This hotel is basic, but has a lot of charm and it's owned by a Hawaiian family. It beats a lot of the chains. They offer a free continental breakfast every morning from 7:00-8:30 a.m. Located near the airport, which is what we wanted due to the fact that we had a flight to Kauai.

This is not a bad hotel as long as you know it is not a luxury hotel with a lot of amenities. We went knowing that it was just a place to keep our things and sleep at night. I did not go to Hawaii looking to spend a lot of time in the hotel so this was great for us. It is about 8-10 miles away from the fancy resorts and touristy beaches but it was no trouble at all to get there. The hotel is right on the beach and it has a great view of the mountains and beach. Like I said it did not have a lot of extras but if you are just looking for a place to crash and keep your stuff its perfect. They have a free continental breakfast which is nice, nothing fancy but hey its fee. If you are in Hawaii to go to the beach, hike, and surf and not spend all your time in the this is just fine. I think the people who complained about this hotel were expecting way too much.

The hotel itself is not the newest or fanciest but if your not planning to spend a lot of time in the room like my husband and I then it would be great. We liked being close to Costco, Walmart, Kmart and a shopping mall as well as two movie theatres within walking distance. There were plenty of fast food restaurants but not enough fine dining restaurants. The airport was only 2 miles away and there is a great swapmeet on Saturday within walking distance. We didn't like the free breakfast too much, not enough variety. The hotel is not close to any beaches, you need to drive at least 8 miles or more. The iron does not work well and our bathroom door kept locking us out in the middle of the night. OOPs!

After reading some of the reviews I was a little concerned about this hotel but was more than pleasantly surprised. The carpets in the hall are dreary but the room had 2 queen beds, and airy furniture and a large bathroom with a tub. It was spacious and clean. The breakfast was free and although the same every morning consisted of oranges, juice, fresh muffins, hard boiled eggs, toast and pastry with fresh coffee or tea. It was buffet stlye. It was more than adequate and since Starbucks would have charge $15-$20 for the same fare we were delighted. We liked being in Kahalui which was very central for all sight seeing. Although close to the airport(5 minutes) we didn't hear any airport noise or for that matter any noise from other guests although the hotel was full. The swimming pool was clear and fine for a dip. Although not a spa resort the friendly family feeling and price were very much to our liking.

Accept the hotel for what it is - a lower priced alternative to the expensive resorts of Wailea and Kaanapali. The hotel is an icon of East Maui, on the water by the harbor with well-maintained grounds. It is adequate, but not pretentious. Within walking distance is the Kaahamanu Mall, the only mall on Maui. Several good restaurants are close by, as is the Kahului airport.

Room was always clean by the time we returned each day. Room had a slight musty smell but Walmart sold "Oust"-so we were okay. Could hear the ocean when the window was open. Great for 2 people who were there to see the island - not stay at a resort all day. Cost of things in the area was reasonable - not like the more touristy areas. We would stay there again in a heart beat.

Only things I liked there is that there is a free breakfast, free parking (limited parking spaces), and convinient to all the attractions (About 30 mins to Lahaina area resorts and great restaurants) and about 15 mins drive to the bike companies if you are planning on doing the sunrise bike ride. Drive to Hana (7 pools) is about 4-4.5 hours from the hotel (make sure you take some food with you since there are not many restaurants on the way). The primary reason I stayed at this hotel after reading previous reviews was because of it's closer location to major activities.

Large, clean, pleasant rooms. Hotel is oriented perpendicular to shore, so at best you can only see water at an angle. Not really a beach activity hotel anyway. You'll need rental car to get to most of the interesting sights on Maui. For example, Lahaina or Wailea are 15 to 20 miles away. This is a good, reasonably - priced hotel to use as a base for driving around the island or if you want to be close to the airport, but don't want airplane noise. It's not a resort or honeymoon site.
