| The staff was friendly, but inefficient and unorganized. They couldn't find our reservation at first. We asked for non-smoking and received a room that had obviously been smoked in. It was dark and dreary, and the bathroom had not been cleaned well. Probably won't return.

| Nothing fancy, but pretty good. You get free wireless internet and a small free breakfast, but aside from that there's no frills. The rooms are kept clean and the service is friendly. No complaints here aside from the fact that the elevator is a little slow. Will stay there again on future business trips.

| This hotel is very affordable yet has all the amenities that travellers - especially business travellers - need, such as free in-room wireless internet, full size ironing board, in-room coffee maker. Rooms are clean, quiet and spacious, if a little dark and dreary. Valet parking is $5. The only drawback is the service which is SO SLOW and poor that it's almost like a Candid Camera joke.

| The hotel is a dump on the outskirts of downtown Los Angeles. Many of the rooms are not very clean and I have seen cockroaches in the room.

| This was a last minute decision to book a hotel due to our train was running late. The room was not cleaned. They told us there would be no housekeeping that late in the evening after we discovered our room was a stye! They hotel was totally booked so there wasn't another room to switch to. No vacancy elsewhere in the area,so we ended up staying afer all. The person at the front desk said there was nothing they could do that late at night.

| When booking for travel at this Best Western, do not expect it to be like any other Best Western. The Chinatown area is not the friendliest and neither was the staff. They had no idea how to work with their parking staff downstairs and the desk service is generally SLOW. Do not come to them in a rush expecting them to help you quickly. Also, I asked for a microwave 3 times (once on the phone and twice in person) no one ever came to give me one! The room was clean but the tv channels didn't come in clear which was a bit ironic seeing that I had a GREAT view of the satellite dish for the hotel. Also, as a single woman traveling, I was a bit scared in coming out of my room because it is just an open breezeway. You can see downstairs and although a hotel key is needed for the elevator, anyone can easily use the stairwell to get to your room without key/permission.

| The staff did certainly not invent the words "friendliness", "helpfulness", or eagerness. I called the reception one day to let a friend who was waiting in the lobby know that I was running behind. I called several times and asked the clerk to check the lobby. He told me he could not see anyone. My friend was about ten feet away from him around a corner.

| I was initially surprised, when checking into the hotel: I told the registration clerk that my highest priority was QUIET--and was told, in response, that my highest priority was actually one large single bed. I corrected the registration clerk, and told him that that was not true; I had requested one single bed on Expedia, but I did not care how many beds the room had, if it were quiet. Once again, I was corrected and my priorities were announced. When I got to the room, I was impressed by its size. This might be the largest hotel room I've ever occupied! The hotel is quite old, but the room was spotless. There was a large tub in the bathroom for soaking. Each day, Housekeeping came, and left the room perfectly clean. The room was not quiet--it was extremely loud. Some of this is due to the design of the hotel itself: It's built around an open courtyard of shops, and that courtyard is open to the street, along busy Hill Street in LA's Chinatown. 24 hours a day, the sounds of people walking by (and also, within) the courtyard echo up to every single room. Also, despite my request for quiet, hotel registration saw fit to place a dancing bear, or perhaps a practicing sumo wrestler, in the room directly above mine. All night long, BANG! BANG! Sleep was impossible. When I called the front desk, there was never an answer. On checkout, I was not asked about my experience. My guess: The clerk either 1) did not care, or 2) knew from experience how dissatisfied I was.

| I booked this hotel primarily because of the location. It is on Hill Street which is in the heart of Chinatown. The location is within a walking distance to the Metro Goldline (which you can take to Pasadena) and the historic area of Olvera Street and Union Station. The lobby to the hotel is located at the extreme rear of the building complex. Upon checking in, I noticed that you have to slide your hotel key to access the elevator. This little bit of extra security was surprising but welcome on my part. Every floor has a coke machine and an ice maker. Upon entering my room I was pleasantly surprised when I found a coffee maker, and ironing board, and a small refrigerator. Next to the king size bed was a night stand and closer to the window were two chairs with a small round table. The room had a balcony with a view of Hill Street. There is nothing impressive with the view of Hill Street, nonetheless, a balcony is a welcome amenity. The room itself was clean and tidy. The sheets were neat and fresh. The bathroom was well stocked with towels. Overall the room was in pristine condition. I can't recall anything I disliked about this hotel, I think it the Dragon Gate Inn exemplifies what a budget hotel should be.
