I appreciate the staff of the hotel. They are friendly and their hospitality is appreciatable. This hotel is very south corner of the island, secluded, romantic and private white sand beach(called big beach, very less people come to this excellent beach).

This resort is very kid-friendly. The pool wasn't that impressive, but the beach was easy to access and always had a pretty mellow shore-break. Kids eat free, so that saved some money. There's a lot of open space and paths to walk/jog around the property. Golf is great and easy to access, and they have junior rates for the kids that play. The cafe in the lobby has coffee, great muffins, and other breakfast and snack things if you only want to go quick or light.

Ocean front room view was spectaular! Great beaches! Free cabanas at beach and pool! Pool area is below average. And the food at the hotel is not that great. However, the room and the view were better than the "ulitmate resort" down the road. The hotel service was great! I would stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. The room itself was ok and felt kinda damp but it doesn't really matter bc you dont spend much time in your room anyhow. The Hotel itself is located on buetiful grounds and the staff is really friendly and helpful. The Hotel is also located close to downtown and alot of shopping areas, however its also nice and secluded. The hotels beach is right infront of turtle town, so its a great place to snorkel as well. I'd reccomend staying here if you want the resort feel but also want to be close enough to downtown.

This hotel had the best location. In fact people would kayak or boat in to snorkel right off of the hotels beach. Lots of sea turtles and if you are interested in snorkeling Molokini, it is only 2 1/2 miles off of the beach (closest hotel to it). The Maui Prince has a catamaran that will take you there and to see the sea turtles. It's pretty expensive, but it's the shortest trip out and very nice. Our hotel room had a great ocean view and was facing southeast (towards the pools). It seemed as if they held a luao every night on the lawn by the pools which was just below our balcony where we would sit and watch the luao. The pools were not impressive, but the beach made up for it. Expensive to eat in the hotel, but just a short drive into Kihea for a good breakfast. We had free valet service which came in handy when they had the luao's. Overall, we would definitely consider staying at the Maui Prince if we found ourselves in Maui again.

Will definitely stay at the Maui Prince again. Highly Recommend.

We stayed at the Maui Prince for our wedding and honeymoon and loved it. If you want to stay where there aren't as many people then you'll want to stay down in Makena. We didn't mind the driving and were relieved that we chose to stay away from all the gobs of tourists in Lahaina. The staff was really attentive and friendly. Our room didn't look as new as pictured but was nice. We did have to ask them to clean the balcony as it was extremely dirty and had foot prints when we arrived that weren't ours. They cleaned it the next morning promptly and spent extra time on the rest of the room. Our view was excellent. We would recommend that you sleep with the sliders open and the front door (they have a front door that has slits and lets in air) it was the best sleep I've had at a hotel. I think the birds chirping in the atrium combined with the sound of the waves makes a great night of rest! Oh, and the pool really sucks but thank goodness the ocean was right there.

We thought the hotel was great. It has a beautiful garden in the center with a waterfall and pond and the grounds were awesome. It's just a little walk to the beach but the beach was great also. It wasn't really crowded like some of the other places we visited and we liked that alot. The only downside was that the restaurants are quite expensive for us but the service and people there were all nice and friendly. We had a great time and would definately stay there again.

We were there celebrating our 10th anniversary, and we couldn't have picked a better place. The setting was gorgeous from the magnificent courtyard garden to the beautiful view from our lanai and picturesque beach. Sipping pina coladas by the pool was heavenly and the snorkeling right in front of the hotel was fabulous. The views of Haleakala behind us were breath taking. I could not have been happier. We had to check out and leave our luggage at the bell desk, because we had an evening flight out of Maui. We were able to continue using the amenities that day, though. They also have a hospitality room available for up to an hour to shower and freshen up.

I would recommend this as a pace to stay, but there are some easy things they could do to improve the service. The location, beach and entertainment options are wonderful. The hotel is open air with a beautiful garden / fountain in the center. it is really a wonderful location. I would recommend against eating there though. The lounge offered a shrimp cocktail for around $15 that was advertised as a Jumbo shrimp cocktail. the food is overpriced and only decent. The shrimp were not jumbo and there were only 5 of them. We only ate there when we were dingin at the pool for lunch. They really shoudl expand the options available there, as there wree only 4 choices. The service was only OK. One bartender left something to be desired: Apparantly Hawaii has some new law requiring that they ID everyone. Thats all well and good, but if I am honeymooning for a week at their rates, I don't want to be harassed for an ID to buy an $8 frozen margarita. I am 28 years old and do not look under 21 or perhaps even under 25. If I am a a guest at a hotel they should make every attempt to serve me. I don't carry my ID to the beach. The law is one thing, but true service is when someone uses good judgement to allow me to enjoy myself on my honeymoon.

We had a very pleasant stay at the Maui Prince. While the hotel is starting to look a little dated, and could use a makeover, it was very clean and well-maintained. The service is outstanding and the amenities provide everything you need to make your vacation enjoyable and memorable. The location and grounds provide a perfect quiet seclusion at the very end of the several resorts located on the south side of the island. Already wish I could return for another week long vacation.

Hotel was beautiful but could have been more friendly to guests when it came to meal service. This hotel has 3 luau's a week and when it does, it closes one or two of its regular dining rooms. On two occassions we had no choice but to leave the hotel and eat someplace else. This was a hastle. Also, Conciere missed making a reservation for us which was discussed directly with the Maui Prince. We almost traveled 50 miles for no reservation. Only by a twist of fate we had discovered this before hand and were able to make a new reservation. Maui Prince never offered an apoligy.

This is a lovely hotel away from the crowds, if you like the quite beach life this is the place to stay. The hotel is off by itself with no other buildings for miles around. It has a great beach area and snorkling with turtles right off shore. The grounds are beautiful with a koi pond and waterfall. The rooms are very simple, most with a partical view of the ocean. We were able to get and ocean front room on the 5th floor this visit. The view was lovely but the room was quite small and the layout of the shower and bathroom was poor. They only have king size beds in most upper level rooms, which is a problem if traveling with friends. My one major complainant is Smoking rooms. It seems they have them mixed through out the building rather than having them in one section all together. Being a non-smoker I always request non-smoking room which I get but usually the room below or next to you is not, so you still get the smell pouring in through the air conditioning vents or when you open your sliding doors to enjoy the fresh air. On the good side, the staff is the most friendly and they go out of there way to be helpful and make your stay enjoyable. Great food but a bit pricey. Over all it's a great place to stay with a few short comings.

Overall the Makena Prince was pleasant but I would probably not stay there again for two reasons: The expensive restaurants and the Pool/Spa area. The room service and lounge menus were somewhat reasonable and the food was good, but we went elsewhere for the majority of our meals. The other restaurants were just too pricey, no happy hour or specials were offered at any of the Hotels restaurants or lounge. The pool is ok but there are only two tiny spas(think of the backyard variety)that were never available and/or over-used. Very disappointing. The Hotel could easily add beautiful and spacious spas to the pool area. But the beach right at the hotel is beautiful and the snorkeling the best we experienced. The Makena Prince could be a return destination for us if they simply changed a few things.

We had heard that if you wanted to explore the island, this probably wasn't your place, but we found the extra 5 minutes it took to get anywhere was well worth it! There were plenty of excursions close by - Makena Beach State Park and La Perouse Bay are definitely worth checking out, as is the black sand beach and Big and Little Beaches. Food on the resort is pricey but Kihei had several affordable dining options (15 minute drive) and there were a few food stands in the area. Snorkeling here is incredible! Hotel seemed a touch dated but our room was huge. Room service was good after a long flight (but I wouldn't order the Maui beef anywhere on the island). The hotel's luau was a great time (drinks stop flowing after dinner). The grounds were very well manicured and the waterfall was a great touch. Pool was small, but appeared adequate. We would definitely go back!

Being the last resort on the south west end of the island makes the Maui Prince a remote and isolated oasis for relaxation. There is a downside to this in that everything you want to do outside of the hotel grounds requires driving quite a way to get there. There is absolutely no night life at the Prince and there isn't even a soda machine available. Since the lounge closes at ten oclock, if you want anything you better already have it in your room. There is room service but the choices are limited. IF you have children with you the only activity for them is the beach. IT is a great beach, fortunately.

This is my 2nd trip to Maui and stay at the Prince. The Prince is located on a beautiful , quiet, secluded beach. However; beware, apparently there is quite a difference in the rooms in different areas of the hotel. Last time we were on the 5th floor and had a lovely , clean room in good repair and great friendly service. This time we were on the 1st floor and had a dirty room, outdated and well worn. It smelled musty and the balcony smelled strongly of smoke and was littered with butts, and the air conditioning was not reliable. Service was surly and poor with the exception of room service. Food is expensive and other than hamburgers is not the best. I might stay again...but only if I could dictate which area of the hotel? Loved the location though, its beautiful!

Of course, that also means you are a ways off from some of the more active spots like Lahaina Town (45min-1hour). The only downside is that the Hotel restaurants are expensive and it is about a 20 minute drive to Kehei if you just want a cheap burger.

I stayed here in 1996 and again in Jan, 2006. It's a great hotel if you are looking to be in the part of Maui that is quiet and serene. It is not as splashy as the other Makena/Wailea hotels, but that's exactly what we liked about it. Staff is wonderful, hotel is really nice, beach is terrific, food is delicious and the pool is comfortable and convenient.
