Great hotel, with clean, nicely appointed rooms. Swimming beach was spectacular. Beautiful clean white powdery sand, located on a clear, calm bay encircled by a protective reef. You really could snorkel right off the beach and see enough sea life to make repeated swims enjoyable. When travelling to surrounding sight-seeing destinations, such as Playa del Carmen and the Mayan ruins at Tulum, don't bother with high price taxis or tours. A short walk to the main road and two dollars American (around 200 Pesos)will get you an air-conditioned ride to most attractions in a public mini-bus. Just tell the driver where you want to get off and he will stop there. Busses arrive every two to five minutes.

My girlfriends and I really enjoyed this resort, but the room they assigned to us was too small for 4 girls and when they came in to clean, they left the floors extremely wet and slippery. The linens also smelled like they had mildewed. But since you don't spend that much time in your room anyway, it wasn't that big of a deal. The overall resort experience was really nice. Great atmosphere, food and staff.

My friends and I had an absolutely amazing time at this resort. The beach is gorgeous, and the food and drinks are very good. The Animacion staff is wonderful! We always had a great time at their nightly shows...they are so much fun! We highly recommend the swim up pool bar, and all the bartenders are also very friendly. We are already trying to figure out when we can go back!

This was the best spot in the area! The snorkeling right outside the hotel was great! It's close to Tulum and Playa del Carmen, so if you feel like getting out you're real close! The entertainment staff is full of energy and really motivate you to get off the beach chairs. It had live music/dancing every night, so it can be a bit loud, but it was a lot of fun. The separation between the Italian and the International side was a little wierd, I didn't really understand why everything was so segregated, but it didn't affect my good time!

My wife and I enjoyed the beach, this is definitely the highlight of the resort. The buffet food is nothing special so if you're really picky about food then this not the place for you. Reservation for the restaurants was a pain since the concierge didn't arrive on time in the morning and if you have places to go and choose to head out in the morning, you can't book the reservation without the concierge. The people are really nice here, we were always greeted with a smile. The rooms were kept nice and clean.

The resort as a whole was wonderful. People very friendly and atmosphere welcoming. The individual room was quite large, but not a lot of "creature comforts". Luckily you spend most of your day outside on the beautiful grounds and not much time in the room.

The staff was great and the food was pretty decent. The free snorkeling tour was a nice plus, and rooms were kept very clean. The only draw back was that there was no room service and that they did not serve food all day long. Make sure you find out what times you can eat so that you can work you activities around that.

Our trip started out rough as we were put into a privately owned condo that was not taken care of very well, but the staff was very pleasant and worked hard to get us into one of the new buildings the next day. That room was fabulous! The food was so-so. But the beach and the water were great. We enjoyed ourselves very much.

The hotel staff was friendly, activity staff made our stay lots of fun. Food was good, lots of choices at the buffet. The the beach was outstanding, probably the nicest beach I've been to. The hotel has a very laid back atmosphere which is what we were looking for. Oceanfront rooms need upgrading, beds were too hard, overall room need a touch of "TLC".

Overall we had a good experience with the all-inclusive Oasis Akumal. I was somewhat nervous going there after reading some of the reviews - however I found the customer service very good (did not find any different treatment to the Europeans) and the rooms were nice and very clean. The best part about this place would definitely be the beach and the pools, the snorkeling is great and the pools are well kept. The only part we did not like was the food. I am not picky at all but the food is poor to average at best - you can play it safe with the fruit and salad bar which we found pretty good. The buffet serves the same stuff pretty much every day, and when it is not good to begin with it gets old fast. The burgers and snacks at the pool bars were pretty good. There are 3 restaurants to choose from for dinner, however 2 of them are pretty much buffets - the Italian restaurant and the International Buffet - and are not much better than the regular buffet. The Mexican restaurant, on the other hand, was actually a nice place with the best food - we ended up going there a few times. Overall, this place is a good deal, if you are going to relax and have some drinks at the beach you will be happy. Don't let the little things bother you (some people were upset their rooms weren't ready during check in, etc.) and you will enjoy your vacation. Definitely recommend the Xel-Ha water park located nearby and the Tulum ruins which has a great beach to swim at.

The beach is amazing!! You can snorkel right from the beach. It gives a wonderful feel to the hotel. The people are nice especially the workers. If you are looking for relaxation, this is the right place. Evening entertainment ends at a generally good time for the young group as well as our older group. The hotel caters to all types of people. A vacation is what you make out of it. Look for negativity, you will find it. You have a positive outlook and you will have a great time. I did a mother and daughter vacation and my mother loved it. Everthing from the food to the atmosphere fit her needs. We had a wonderful time while we were there (through April 29th).

The staff at this resort is wonderful!! They are all friendly, helpful and some are VERY funny. The food and drinks are okay. The beach is gorgeous with terrific snorkling. For a relatively inexpensive all inclusive, Oasis Akumal is a true gem! If you are looking for a laided back, unpretentious experience, this is the place for you.

If you enjoy snorkeling in the reefs this is the place to stay. The reef is only one foot from shore. We spent hours in the water and always saw something different, Squid, eel and stingrays you name it. The weather was perfect. The food was great and plentifull. We had no problems getting reservations for each of the resturants on site. This resort is an hour and a half south of Cancun and well worth the trip down.

Just returned from the Oasis Akumal and it is one of those places where your reaction will be based on what is REALLY important to you. The beach is beautiful. Just about postcard perfect although the shallow water is very rocky so you have to watch your step. The reef is big but not very colorful or interesting for good snorkeling/scuba. The management is horrible. It is very clear they have no training and do not care. We went to the desk and asked to speak to the manager but was told he was not there which translates into he does not talk to guests. He was there. You have to ask 4 or 5 times if you need anything. Our toilet broke and it took them 4 hours and 5 calls to come fix it. (On top of which the desk staff is next to useless when it comes to information about the the area.) Also, there is NO water pressure in the shower but don't think they can fix that. The food is awful. My friend and I equate it to camp food. The frozen drinks, pina coladas, margarita, etc, come out of machines and are weak and not so frozen. But the beach is beautilful and well maintained as are the grounds/pools. The rooms are very average and the cleaning staff is good. This is really a place for couples and families, not good for singles or if you're looking for night life. Playa Del Carmen is a $28 cab ride each way but well worth it. I wouldn't stay here again just because the negatives outweigh the positives. There are plenty of other places with great beaches and grounds.

We were unaware that the Hotel's hot water system was run by solar power only...so we had to shower with cold, cold water. The food was horrible. The beverages were less than acceptable. Needless to say, we transfered to the Oasis Viva in Cancun for the remainder of our stay. That hotel wasn't much better. The elevators weren't working most of the time. The food was very bad and the staff was less than friendly.

Beach, reef & snorkling wonderful. Lots of fish even close to shore-they like banannas. Entertainment very good. Food very mediocre. Special restaurants-not special-hard to get into. Snack barshas good hamburgers. Restaurant service poor. Thanks to "Noisy at Night" review. We took a sound/sleep machine to drown out the noise. Clean room, comfortable beds. Hotel caters to weekly load of Italian guests. Often were asked for reservations to buffets--2 buffets serve same foods. Hotel not living up to their potential. Pretty place, lacks service level. I wounldn't go back. No security locks on doors--we had one night with staff waking us up to clean room-they thought room was empty. Didn't have "do not disturb" sign. No "in room" safe.Visited April 4-11, 2005

Extremely friendly and helpful staff, lots of activities to choose from, or lots of sunchairs on the beach to just relax in. Buffet food very appetizing with lots of vegetables and fresh fruit, not to forget the guacamole made fresh all day...Large room with VERY comfortable beds, and we got one right on the beach!! Snorkeling, windsurfing, paddeling, swimming, feeding the fish by hand, dance lessons, spanish lessons and more...Very entertainig staff in the "Marina", and they soon learned your names, and they also did some of the entertaining in the evening around other shows, and they were very funny and good. I would highly recommend other travellers to choose this resort.

The only complaint I would have about this hotel is that it was very noisy at night. Disco music played 'til late and then the Italian Theatre was loud and after that was a fire show on the beach. We go to bed early so this wasn't really our style. Otherwise, gorgeous beach, great snorkeling, nice view room and great staff.
