| It really is a 3/4 mile hike uphill from the beach. The shuttles are every 15 minutes but can only carry 6 people so you usually have to wait. A taxi rideto town is $8.50 each way. Also, in spite of being on a hill, there is no view.

| This hotel is too far from downtown to walk. The walls are so thin I could tell you what my neighbor was watching until 2 a.m.! Spend a few extra dollars and stay closer to downtown.

| Upon landing from a very rough crossing on the ferry (its further than I thought, 70 minutes from Long beach, claiming 2 sick-bag victims) we discovered Catalina island. A fleet of mini van shuttles await the new arrivals to take them to their repective lodging. I recommend hitching a ride on a golfcart, everyones drives them on Catlina and they are much more fun than a minivan. The best Western shuttle bus is frequent and takes you betweeen the waterfront and the hotel which is about half a mile. The motel is a modest but clean and comfortable, there is a heated pool and hot tub there's also a basic restaurant. The style appears to be a somewhere between Mexican and faux Hawaiian (plastic plants and tiki pathways). Despite this strange sounding appearance there is a quirky charm to the place, the rooms each have a balcony overlooking a central square (housing aforementioned facilities). The conference facilities are adequate as was the catered food. I'd stay there again.
