Do not stay at the Melrose. There were fleas in the rooms, the air conditioning didn't work, the staff at the front desk was unhelpful at the best and down right obstructive at the worst. The concierge was there about 2 hrs/day. We would have been better off in a tent in a park than at this literal flea-bag of a hotel.

The convenient location was a real plus (access to Georgetown, Circulator and Metro subway). The value was good (not great). The front staff was excellent and extremely helpful. The restaurant had abysmal waitstaff (which disappeared for a long time). The waitstaff could not speak acceptable English. The orders were not properly filled. The food, for such a high price, was very ordinary. The concierge was very helpful, but in evidence only two of our four days. The fire alarm (false) went off twice - with no explanation.

We stayed in an executive king room. I don't know what kind of room the others had when they talk about the small vanities, etc because everything about our room was spacious, beautiful, and immaculate. You can't beat the location.. close to Georgetown and metro. Felt very safe walking to Georgetown at night for dinner.

The Melrose is a beautiful, historic hotel in a convenient setting. After we pulled up to the front, the bellhop did not greet us, instead he turned around and went inside. I found this strange and my immediate reaction was negative. Then I realized he had only gone inside to find the valet parking attendant and all was well. Check-in was fast and friendly. They even offered a 20% off certificate for the hotel restaurant. The elevator was very small but well appointed-I found it charming. The room were large with a view of the street below. Very comfortable beds-plus bathrobes which are always an added bonus. The Library bar was a relaxing place to unwind. We tried the crap and artichoke dip and the panini chicken sandwich-both were wonderful. My husband loved the after 8 martinis-although not so much the next morning. We did eat dinner in the hotel restaurant. It was late (9:30 or 10), so there was us and one other table. At first we thought we'd made a mistake but the food was wonderful. And you can't ask for better service when its just you and the waitress. My husband had the sole, I had the pasta with shrimp-both were fantastic. We ordered room service breakfast the next am. It too was wonderful-my favorite being the croissants-they are huge! The bacon was crispy and warm-perfect! There was a slight line at check in but it worked out well b/c once we finished there, our car was ready out front. Overall we were extremely satisfied with the service of the hotel.

The Melrose is a beautiful hotel with a great location, (just 2 blocks from the metro). There were plenty of restaurants and shops which were just steps from the hotel. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. The concierge called and made appointments for us at a nail salon at 7:30 on a Saturday. I cannot think of one negative thing to say and would definitely stay there again.

I was very impressed with level and quality of service but found several things lacking. The hotel says there if a full service store next door and there is but it closes by 10 (earlier on Sunday) and there are no vending machines or alternates nearby we could locate. The sandwiches offered at the store were very good and they had fresh fruit and yogurt available. We also ate dinner in the Landmark restaurant and it was just OK. The service lackluster and we were plagued by two flies that would not leave and bread that was apparnetly made from old cobblestones. The rooms did have snacks and water in the refrigerator but water and candy was very high and we opted to do without. The room was great. Quiet clean, very comfortable. The door staff, when asked how to get places, seems to lean heavy on the cabs. We were told the fastest way to get to the White House was via cab. A metro station was a mere two blocks away and would have been about a fourth the cost and faster. One of the cab drivers told me he was a very good friend of the doorman...no doubt. The room was a bargain and the location fine. I would stay again but would not plan to eat at the hotel.

As we walked into our room, my wife said, "I love this place!". It is our favorite. Very convenient to Metro, downtown and Georgetown. We highly recommend it.

The Melrose is convenient to both Foggy Bottom and Georgetown, each within easy walking distance. Metro stop is nearby, which is a huge plus. The room (Executive Suite) was spacious (well, the bathroom was a little small) and clean. The beds were comfortable, and the room was quiet. Service in the restaurant was little slow, but otherwise the staff was attentive and helpful.

We had a suite for us (parents), and a standard room for the kids. Both were nice sized and well furnished. Since it's right next to Georgetown where better and less expensive food can be found, there's no need to eat in the hotel. We were there in the summer and there were a lot of families in the hotel. Some of the extra charges should be avoided: I was told that a long distance call was $20 for the first minute (maybe that was exaggeration, but we used our cell phones). Wireless Internet was $10/day.

We booked a "superior" room for our family of 5 and requested a rollaway. When we checked in no rollaway was available. The staff's attitude was "too bad" and they told us that we should feel fortunate that we got the room type (2 double beds) we had requested. One of our party had to sleep on the floor! The next day it took Expedia's intervention to get the issue sorted (our repeated requests to the front desk were unsuccessful). The room was way too small for 5 people - we were falling all over ourselves during our stay, the bathroom was not much bigger than a cupboard and there is nowhere to put your toiletries. We also got bug bites in bed. This hotel has a 4 star Expedia rating but we have not had a 4 star experience. Location was convenient to the subway.

All and all it was a great place for the price we paid. It is close enough so you are able to walk to most of the monuments & Smithsonians. Then at night are still able to enjoy Georgetown for dinner.

This was a GREAT location. The room was large and nice to look at, however the beds were small, the shower didn't drain, the linens were not 4 star quality, and they seemed very worn. We asked for a roll away for my teen, and it was the worst we've ever had, mere plastic. He chose to sleep on the floor the second night, and claimed it was more comfortable. My daughter and I also got a couple of bites while laying on the bed. All in all, not a great hotel, although, as I said, the location was perfect for D.C. sightseeing, easy access to the metro, and easy walk to Georgetown with its wonderful restaurants and ambience.

Perfectly situated close to METRO station and Georgetown. Although it has a fitness center sufficient to do a basic cardio workout, you are close to beautiful Rock Creek Parkway and Georgetown canals. Walking distance into Georgetown and great shops and restaurants. As far as the bathroom being small, well I don't need to much space to use a toilet...and the sink was situated outside of the shower/toilet area so it doesn't tie up the area.

The Melrose is located at the edge of Georgetown, a quick 15 minute walk to the White House, Mall, etc. If you don't like walking, the hotel is about two blocks from the Foggy Bottom metro stop. The hotel is next to George Washington University, so there is a vibrancy to the area that's fun, but not loud/obnoxious. The bellhops and the housekeepers were the most friendly of all the staff, followed by a somewhat aloof front desk staff. By far, the Landmark restaurant staff was the worst! It seemed as if it was a bother for them to wait on their customers, which really took away from an otherwise decent dining experience. The hotel lobby is inviting - there seemed to be one or two meeting rooms on the lower level, but otherwise not many amenities like gym, communal computer for internet access, etc. (or at least they weren't well advertised if they did exist). The rooms were fairly spacious, with comfortable beds and nice decor. The bathroom was fine aside from a lack of space to lay out toiletry items (pedestal sink with a very small shelf under the mirror). There was the occassional carpet stain, but otherwise the room felt clean and well-kept. Overall, The Melrose is a great hub to base out of for your trip to DC.
