| I have been in Santo domingo in 16 times. This is one of the worst hotel , I have ever stayed.Even I have paid for 2 people in a room. They did not let my quest/friend to come to my room ! Because She did not register at the same time I checked in .BIG DEAL ! Room & hotel is clean but Beds are not comfortable,very old! Restaurant ! 1 plate food + 1 cola + 1 desert = $ 30 ( Very expensive for this country / not tasty / ) . & Food are terrible.

| Staying at the Melia was a great experience, the lobby is beatiful, the people extremely nice and the food wonderful. It is a little expensive but it is worth it. I would recommend to always get a deluxe room or higher because the standard is a little too small. The only bad thing I could say is that the pool was dirty with leaves from the trees and plants around it because the wind was blowing hard. Nevertheless,if I go back I would not risk it by staying anywhere else.

| My initial impression was very good on day one, but after day two, I wanted to leave.The hotel is surround by very poor neighborhoods, I found out the hard way when I took a little tour by foot. The harassment is non-stop, people are allowed to carry guns with a permit, a local told me muggings are quite common.The hotel only has one restaurant open, though it has two listed. The prices are more expensive than New York, I paid $50 us dollars for a lunch for two, $70 us dollars for dinner. Mind you that we had grilled chicken with rice and a few beers.Very few of the hotel employees could speak understandable english, it was extremely difficult to communicate.
