My husband and I loved the internet pictures and majority of previous ratings on this resort. Our room was comfortable, but worn. The sofa and chair in the seating area were in upholstery from the 70's and showed it. There was absolutely no view from the ground floor seated or standing, and there were HUGE 3-4" palo verde beetles in the entryway to our room each night. Although the quality of this resort would suggest otherwise, apparently you must ask to be placed in better rooms. Grand Facade A+, Actual Room D.

My girlfriend and I needed a break from Phoenix so we decided to try the Westward Look Resort. From the moment we stepped into the lobby and until we left, everyone made our stay a complete pleasure. The room was clean, the service was excellent, and the food at the Gold Room was exceptional. You are treated as a valued guest and the staff makes sure of that!

I love this hotel. It's not your big glitzy place. More intimate. The rooms are large and well appointed. It's an older classic desert hotel. 3 pools, so you can get away from the exuberance of children. Nature walks around the hotel. Great spa. Superior restaurant. The bar is more intimate and fun. Views of the desert and the mountains. I believe the hotel is going thru some renovation. The one drawback is the beds are a bit soft. I would make sure that you had a room with a firm bed. No hesitation. I would definitely go back.

The location was great, but the property seems a little old. The kids enjoyed the pool (which could be a little larger). The room (Posada) was a good size, but our mattresses could be replaced with newer, firmer ones. The staff was wonderful and we enjoyed our stay and the walks you can take around the facility.

After 25 years of our visits, it may be slipping a little bit. There seems to be a little more deferred maintenance, grounds/landscaping a little less groomed etc. There has been a change of ownership, this may be whay it seems to have lost some of its aura.

I would only recommend this place to folks looking for a "value" experience. We learned that the facility had recently been sold to a corporate entity, and this explained to us why the Westward Look felt like a resort in transition. Some rooms felt a tad run down. . .I would recommend that folks attempt to stay in buildings 1, 3 or 33 as they have the best views of the lovely Santa Catalina mountains. . .others have only views of desert brush and cacti. And the restaurant is no longer in the top 5 of Tucson--we had much better meals out in Tucson. But the sun is always out, the pools were always clean, and the Bloody Marys are quite good. But don't expect extreme luxuriousness.

This hotel has a great location, however rooms are very very small, pool was dirty, food was moderately priced but not of high quality. Definitely over-priced for size/quality of room! Linens are not changed daily except by request. While it has a pool, it was not clean and there is very little promotion of activities conducted by the hotel - not really a true resort. We would not return given the price.

Stayed here 4 years ago on business, wanted to try a family vacation there. Paid extra for a room with a view. was very specific about room with city view when checking in. Clerk assured me this was a city view room. Well there was no view at all except for the balcony of the unit next door. Went down and voiced my disappointment. Another clerk gave me a great room. Why we didnt get the great room the first time? Will try somewhere else next time.

Westward Look is an older resort that is in excellent condition and located in the foothills of Tucson, overlooking the city. The rooms have character with hand-painted tiles, spacious rooms, and EXTREMELY comfortable beds. To top things off, the staff was helpful, courteous, and even seemed to be enjoying their jobs...this is a definite "must stay" when in Tucson

The grounds are lovely, and there are a couple of nice trails. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. We are ready to go back soon!

The grounds and desert plants are varied and it's great that they have signs that tell you what the different cacti and trees are. The first room we were put in smelled like a dog had stayed there, and it was right by the pool, where there were a lot of children and floats and noise. For someone wanting to relax and rest, it wasn't a good room to be in. They were great to move us to a different room that faced the desert and parking lot that was much more private. If you have pets and kids, it's a great place to stay. For a couple wanting privacy and a relaxed weekend, I'd either ask for a desert-view room, or stay elsewhere. The dogs barking on the balconies wasn't my idea of a quiet spa-like atmosphere for the price you pay.

We stayed here in April and the grounds were absolutely amazing with all gardens in bloom. Our room was a "deluxe", but rather dark and a bit run down. The premium restaurant was excellent. The bar and grill for meals was mediocre, overpriced, and service was terrible. (We tried it twice.) Plenty of great places to eat locally.

Westward Look Resort is a very nice and relaxing place to stay. Birders will like the grounds where many species of birds can be easily spotted.

The Westward Look is one of our very favorite places and we have travelled extensively, both nationally and internationally. Although the resort is older, it is always kept up to date and maintained to top standards. Rooms are enormous, beautifully decorated, and private. The grounds are gorgeous. The library area is idyllic. Rates are certainly reasonable given the high quality. The spa and fitness facilities are great too. We visit Tucson annually and expect that we will continue to return over and over.

We were told that ownership had recently spent about 24 million in improvements. We were also told that management was working very hard to upgrade the overall reputation of the resort.Although we couldn't compare it with any former experience, I believe they succeeding very well.

There is everything to recommend this place. Three things deserve mention, however. They use an excessive amount of water---the sidewalks could be swept instead of hosed down, the lawns are unnecessary, just to name two things. The restaurant service was a bit slow on all of my mornings with little explanation of why. But the food is delicious. I want also to comment about the place of origin of so much of the room furnishings. They are/were made in China and not even in the US, much less locally produced. Much more could be made of the sources of the food---when it comes from Arizona, or the southwest; and simple things like the ceramic mugs for coffee in the room could have been procured by Arizona makers and industries, if not Tucson. This is a place that exploits the best of Arizona, Tucson, and the southwest, and it should give back as much as it could to the local industries, craftspeople and traders. It is not an 'anonymous' chain, but a distinctive Arizona monument made into a resort.
