The hotel was average at best. My room smelled badly of smoke even though it was a no smoking room. There are no facilities on-site and the complimentary happy hour is MON-THUR only. They provided only limited transportation to the Metro station and had no transportation to/from the airport. It is in a decent and safe location but you really need your own transportation if you stay here. I spent $100 in taxis over 3 days.

This is my second stay at the Hawthorne Suites while on business in Alexandria and, once again, I found the hotel to be a good value for the money. While hotel is showing it's age, it seems to be well maintained and clean, with comfortable rooms. The WI-FI internet access is simple to connect to and fast.

well, i was surprised at the service i received at this hotel. i guess i expected too much or iam just used to better hotels. i felt like i was in a cheap/low class hotel. one of the things that made it worse was the appearance of the hotel staff, i dont think they even took a shower in the morning or ironed their clothes. the room was nice, the bathroom was too small for a suite, my phone did not work and took more than 45 minutes to get help. i do NOT recommend it to anyone. thank you

This hotel was much nicer than I was expecting, being that it only got a few star rating. I have stayed in some trashy 2 star hotels but this one would have blown the others away. They offered shuttle service to and from the metro which was helpful, and they provided a full breakfast every morning and a dinner every night during the weekdays. House keeping cleans the rooms and brings fresh towels every day. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the D.C. area who wants a nice place to stay for an affordable price.

the room was dirty and it is rated safe for pets; however the grounds crew for the hotel was spraying chemicals and dropping chemical fertilizers.

The room was basic but fine. Spacious which is good if you are bringing children. We had booked two rooms but found our key card could not access our second room. This appeared to be a major problem for the staff and we could not get into a room until very late at night by which time my kids were asleep. The problem repeated itself the next day, and ultimately we only had use of two rooms for one of the three nights we were there. Following our stay I did email the General Manager expressing my dissatisfaction but have had no reply to that email still one week later. The staff were pleasant; just not very capable.

A little seedy and worn around the edges. Rooms and hallways are noisy and smell of smoke - even the non-smoking rooms. Sounds travel between rooms at night - TV's, water running, doors closing. Not very restful. Nothing in walking distance - you need a car or pay a taxi. Nice staff. Helpful.

The hotel was fine but we told the front desk about a maintenance request (the tub wasn't draining) and it was not taken care of in our 5 day stay.

While not a five (or even four) star hotel, it was a good value given the rate. The staff were plesant, the rooms clean, and they include a breakfast and dinner in the rate.

The Hawthorn Suites is a nice place. The rooms are nice, the staff is good and the breakfast every morning is a plus. The hotel is located a couple miles away from the nearest Metro station. There is a shuttle available to get there (or to other nearby locations upon request). The Metro station is not really walkable (there is no direct path or continuous sidewalks between the station and the hotel).
