the location is great, and the price is right. BUT the place was a total dump- holes in walls, not terribly clean. If all you need is a place to crash and shower it is fine, but it is not a place to spend any time. The staff gave good service, but the place needs a major renovation.

This hotel was very affordable for the area in Chicago. It's in a safe neighborhood with a lot of old brownstone mansions, nice views of Lincoln park, and just a few blocks walk from the nearest El station. The rooms were clean and the people were friendly. The 151 bus comes every 10 minutes and brings you right to downtown via Magnificent Mile all the way to the Sears Tower and Union station. Good for a budget traveler just looking for a decent place to stay while staying in the city. Very affordable considering hotel prices in Chicago.

I will admit the rooms are smaller than most, but if you don't plan to spend a lot of time in them, it's an ideal place to stay. There's a bus stop across the street and a shuttle at the hotel. There's a convenience store and a restauant/bar connected to the hotel. Not to mention a parking lot across the street(not very pricey either). I would definitely stay there again.

The Gold Coast Hotel is the old Days Inn on N.Clarke across the street from Lincoln Park and the beach. It changed its name recently but it will take more than new stationery to change the huge Days Inn signs painted on the sides of the hotel. Friendly staff, especially the "helpful and service-oriented" desk clerk made up for the tiny room with almost no amenities. The cleaning staff is very good, but the bathroom and fixtures leave a lot to be desired so keeping it clean was the least they could do. Pick this hotel if you enjoy "Old Town" and don't mind the six block walk to the Subway (Red Line) or the needing a taxi to get anywhere worth visiting (other than the Zoo or the park). Luckily, the No. 36 bus stops right outside the door and takes you up and down N. Clarke and State Street (downtown).

This hotel worked out well for me and my friends. Pros: - Excellent location - Super Cheap - Two bathrooms and closets in one room - Mini-mart in lobby - Shuttle transportation within 5 miles of hotel. Cons: - Hotel is dingy. There were some things in disrepair, wallpaper/lineoleum peeling, door frame slpintered. - Slow and very small elevators. This hotel is perfect if your main concern is location and budget. I'd recommend this if you're just looking for a place to sleep and store your luggage.

Beautiful area, that's about it. When we got there, there was absolutely no parking, and the only parking lot they had, that fit like 10 cars, was full for the night. We requested a Queen siz bed, and only received a full sized bed, with a room inbetween both elevators. They told us to keep the noise down, to put a towel underneath the door! We had to wait for like 10 minutes for the elevator one day, that was always helpful. As far as their continental breakfast...they gave you free coffee. WOW. Wouldn't recommend the stay!

The hotel was nice, but the lobby was very small and crowded. The elevators took forever to come (we counted a full 4 minutes), and they were TINY. No more than 4 people in the elevator at one time. The rooms were small. Conversly, the view was great! We had a corner room, so we could see the lake out of one window, and downtown out of the other. The bathroom was small and a little grotty. The air conditioner was also broken, so we were very lucky it was only in the 60's.

This hotels meets minimum requirements, plus it's right across the street from Lincoln Park and the zoo. There are lots of restaurants, coffeeshops, and bars around. Although the nearest El stop is 7 blocks away (Clark and Division), the 22 and 36 buses stop right in front of the hotel and proceed expeditiously into the Loop.

The rooms are too small. My blanket had stains on it. The air conditioner is an old window unit that reaked of a musty smell. A couple next door kept me awake most of the night and again at 5 am. Old elevators that only hold four people. I was charged too much for this experience - I felt like I wanted to run out of there the minute I arrived. I paid too much.

This hotel is in a prime location being just minutes away from Navy Pier, Mich. Ave,The Art Institute, Field Museum and much more. The rooms are rather small, but if you are traveling for leisure, you shouldn't be spending much time in your room anyway. The only real complaint that I had was you can hear everything from your neighbors around you. My first night stay I had a party on one side of me, and the second night I had a couple that was "happy to be alone" on the other. So if you plan on getting any sleep here hope that either you don't have anyone around you, or be prepared to sleep with the TV on.

Hotel employees were polite, courteous and helpful. The hotel itself leaves a bit to be desired, with the only thing justifying its prices are the city and location within the city. Two tiny elevators required lengthy waits. Room was barely acceptable. I do not object to small rooms but there was not even a chair in the room. Bed was a back breaker, both my wife and I came home in pain.

I stayed at Days Inn Gold Coast for my sister's Bachelorette Party. It was close to Second City and and it was cheap. I knew that it wasn't the nicest hotel before going there so I guess my expectations weren't that high. I just needed a place to crash after the party was over. I wouldn't suggest it to people if it is their first visit to Chicago. I would pick somewhere a little nicer unless money was really tight, then I guess you get what you pay for.

Buses run up and down Clark making transportation simple. For such a plush location, the price is terrific.

This Days Inn is located in the Gold Coast north of Downtown Chicago. CTA bus line is 50 feet from the front door. Take the 151 bus to Michigan Avenue for all the hustle and bustle of downtown Chicago. Oak Street aand Michigan Avenue are 10 minutes or less by bus; Hancock Building another minute. Take the bus back to the Gold Coast for a quiet evening away from the crowd. VERY safe area. Rooms are very small with 1 night stand and 1 chest. Building is very old and shows its age, but was being painted during our stay. We accidentally left 1 piece of luggage in the lobby at checkout. VERY HONEST STAFF drove it to us (for $30) at the airport after we discovered it was missing! If you want amenities, a modern or fancy hotel look elsewhere. For a basic, clean hotel run by honest people in a safe upscale neighborhood a short bus ride from the big city, I recommend this Days Inn.
