We were pleased with the location of the hotel. The problem was the room assignment. We were "upgraded" to an ocean view but the room had two twin beds and a dresser. The lights did not work on the lamps and there was no chair in the soom for sitting. The room was a so small we had no place to set up the ironing board. The room was so small there was no way to put the beds side by side. They had them placed in and "L shape" with a walkway between the dresser. We stood the room as long as we could for 5 days and then went to hotel management to get the room changed. They stated we were upgraded. We finally told them we wanted the room we originally were to be in and they finally accommaded us but not before telling us we had to pay additional. We did not pay any extra. The rest of the trip was good. The hotel is quite nice but just one of the older hotels. We would stay at the hotel again but they need to give the people the accommodations they paid for. If they are willing to give an upgrade for an ocean view room they need to make sure it is comparable to what was paid for.

Location was great, right at the egge of Waikiki, near Kapiolani Park. Service at the hotel was friendly. Room was clean but very small for 2 double beds, very small bathroom. Hotel needs serious upgrade, paint jobs, new carpets, and new blankets for the beds! I would not recommend the dining facility (not enough staff, food just ok), but there are plenty of restaurants around. Good Expedia desk. The best selling point is price vs. location...

We liked the location of the Queen Kapiolani Hotel. The zoo and a nice park are across the street so you're not completely surrounded by high-rises. The staff was very nice. Our room had a nice, small lanai (balcony)and a good air conditioner. Our only problem we experienced was with parking. There are not enough spaces in the self-park areas so the late-arriving guests are told to park their cars behind those that are already there. Both mornings when we trying to head out for the day we had to wait for several cars to be moved before we could exit the parking structure. One day we waited almost 30 minutes! It was really frustrating to be in a hurry and not have access to our car. It would be nice for the hotel to advise guests in advance that there is a possiblity their cars will be blocked in.

This hotel was the standout surprise of my last trip to Honolulu. Because of the moderate rate, my expectations were low. What a surprise! The hotel is located at the edge of Kapiolani Park and offers some excellent city and beach views. My eighteenth-floor room had a spectacular view of Diamond Head and the ocean. The room was comfortable and clean and I had a private balcony. As I was going to the desk to thank the staff for my excellent accommodations, another guest was angrily checking out! Maybe it was just my lucky day.

The Queen Kapolani is a nice old hotel. It's across the street from the zoo and half a block from the beach and main strip of shopping. While it did have a swimming pool it didn't have a jacuzzi. Two of the negatives I found with this hotel was that the elevators were so slow and there were only two washers and dryers in the basement to do your laundry.

If you are just looking for a room to stay in overnight, then this is the place. There are no ameneties that you are going to find at the larger hotels. I only recommend this place if you are going to spend a lot of time away from the hotel. If you are looking for a hotel with amenities, this is not the place.

This hotel isn't the most comfortable nor, elegant hotel in Waikiki. However, what it lacks in hotel quality it makes up in location. Just think about it--you don't spend time in your hotel when you're in Hawaii. So as long as you have an adequate sleeping room, that's all you need. The location is awesome. For the price you pay, the hotel is ideally located to the beach...less than a 5 minute walk away. If you came to Hawaii for the beach, this hotel is a great deal.

Certainly not a 4 star but the location makes up for the so-so ammenties. Bathroom dated as well as tv etc, but with 1.5 block to the beach, you can't complain for the money. Get a ocean-view room, view of diamond head and side view of ocean is worth it. The beach as this end of waikki is so much better than in front of the hotel strip. Being next to the park is also really nice.

As a long time traveler ( 30+ years ) to the islands I enjoy staying at low profile properties that offer value, service and clean rooms. This hotel offers it all! The unimpeded view of magnificant Diamond Head ( Lea' hi ) was excellent! I plan on returning to the Queen Kapiolani Hotel in late August or early September.

Great Budget hotel. Those looking for a chocolate on your pillow, go elsewhere. 4-5 stars for it's category. Very clean rooms. Friendly , quick, staff. We got the "superior"... 2 double beds, interesting lanai (a little side door leads to the lanai.) City view, fast elevators. Excellent location. Flip flops to the beach, good snorkeling 1/2 block from hotel. Try Rainbows drive inn, a short 3 block walk from the hotel. Hawaiian plate meals $ 5 . Try the Loco Moco.

They are serious about not checking in until 3:00 p.m. You will wait in the lobby and in line until that time. However, one feature we were really thrilled with was the ability to have our luggage put in a storage room (free of charge) after we had checked out. They kept it for us for several hours while we spent the day touring and then returned to catch our shuttle to the airport. Hotel's restaurant food was good, but the service in the restaurant was horrible. We were glad we got a good rate because the regular room charges were twice what we paid, and would not have been worth it. Location was ideal for quick access to the beach, shops, and zoo.

EXCELLENT STAFF Airline lost all of our luggage and staff went the extra mile to help us. Butiful view of Diamondhead right out of our 14th floor room. Balcony was small but comfortable for evening relaxation, Concerts and fireworks on the beach were viewable from room. Park and Hon. Zoo are right across the street, and it is located on the quiet end of the beach so traffic is not that bad. We had a rental car and the garage under the hotel always accomodated us. Street parking is a bear so dont try it. Food is available and inexpensive in the hotel (not bad), and other establishments are only a short walk away. Older hotel that could use a coat of paint in the common areas. Expedia Travel is located in the lobby so I waited and book our excursions from there, good advice of which tour companies to use and which ones to take. Hey these people live there. A lot cheaper to book once you are there I found out. I would stay there again in a minute.

The room was small, but clean and comfy. And, the lcation in Waikiki is perfect! It's about a block from the beach, and it's a little farther down the main stretch than some hotels so it is a little quieter (which was kinda nice), but still on the main stretch so it was still super close to everything.

It is an older hotel. It is maintained better than most. The rooms were bright and cheerful. We had an ocean view. Parking was only $8 (best price I have seen). Pool was on the small side, but location is next to the beach. You really don't need a pool. I travel to Oahu a lot on business. I would stay there again. I can not say that for a lot of other places on the island. A Good Deal.

I've done some research about this hotel before booking it, so it's just what I had expected. Because it's our wedding aniversary, I booked the room with moutain view and kitchenett. Our room was at the 12th floor and pretty big. We could see Diamond Head right in front of our bed and partial ocean view from the lanai. Also, a whole neighbor building from another big window. But it's OK. Just pull the curtain and the room was still bright with other window open. The faucet continued dripping a little, but it's not big deal to us. Great location to the beach, Zoo, and Diamond Head.

The Queen Kapiolani, while not a flashy new hotel, was a very pleasant surprise. Our room was beautiful with hugh windows overlooking Waikiki Beach. The room was clean and attractively furnished. Hotel staff was attentive and polite. Great deal on rental body boards in the lobby shop. Loved the location, next to the zoo/park and somewhat away from the noise of the Honolulu nightlife. I would definately recommend this hotel.

Place has great location if you want to be downtown. We chose the cheapest room rate and realized why it was so cheap. We were looking at the backside of various condos in the area. We were still happy with the hotel though. If you want the better views pick one of the two higher priced rooms. Just one warning to all first time Hawaii visitors. If you are renting a car, make sure you get a smaller car. Every parking spot and side street is small. Including the Queen Kapiolani's parking garage.

My air conditioner went out on the second night but I called the front desk and the unit was replaced by the time I returned to my room. However we decided to make the best of it and we were pleasantly surprised. For the money we spent, we could not have asked for more. The staff was courteous, the room was clean and roomy enough, and the view of Diamond Head was great.
