The hotel is great. The decoration in the rooms and hallways is very trendy and classy. The staff is extremely polite and helpful. The location could not be better. My only complaint is that it is not very well isolated from outside noise.

Great location and awesome service. The room was large and very comfortable. Satellite TV was iffy during a rain storm. Bring your own toiletries - they provide Aigner which is a bit masculine and harsh. New hotel and everything is clean and updated. Only had breakfast in the hotel - good but pricey. They will give you a free (and good) cup of coffee "to go" if you are staying in the hotel. Nice full-service bar. I would certainly stay there again!

I enjoyed my stay tremendously only after I resigned myself that the hotel is definitely geared towards men. The rooms are very sleek and manly with no frilly or feminine touches. If you are going for business and plan on working evenings in your room be sure to request visual access to the TV when seated at the table. (The rooms contain no desks). My first room had a couch and table directly in front of a flat screened TV hanging on the wall. Hotel staff was very accommodating and was subsequently upgraded to a suite. The Hotel is centrally located with easy walking access to shopping and many restaurants.

New and still being renovated, but fantastic! The place is uber-trendy, but the staff provides exceptional service and courtesy. All the details are covered, right down to the lemon/orange water in the fitness room. Do yourself a favor and stay here!

Hip hotel in a great location. The hotel lobby is also a bar where young people gathered in the evening for drinks. We had a loft room. With our two kids it provided enough room but the place is really set up for couples, bar in the room, not many lights and three TV's! The kids loved the projection TV that was set up with a low bed in the corner of the room - bring your own kid DVD's - the hotel did not have much in the way of Kid DVD's. Nice gym down stairs and a nice place to eat also on the first floor. The staff was very helpful and very nice.

The hotel room was great. Although not huge and a bit short of storage space, the room had very comfortable beds, great linens and pillows, a huge plasma TV with a generous channel selection, and a great small bar in the room complete with a shaker and martinini glases. There is also a CD player with a port for the iPOD. The only irritating thing was that the bathroom door fell off its track a few times. The gym is great and I enjoyed my facial and massage in the small but fashionable spa. I would definately stay there again.

I have traveled to Chicago on business many times in the past three years, but was totally unaware of this hotel. The service is top-notch and the rooms very comfortable. The equipment in the gym is state-of-the-art and convenient to access. Room service arrived in approximately 20 to 25 mintutes as promised. The overall experience was exceptionally good and I am looking forward to staying here again in the near future.

Knowing that it was a new hotel, I was expecting that they may have not yet worked out all the kinks in their procedures. However, I was pleasantly suprised, the staff were well trained and the hotel ran as though it was long established. It was nicely decorated, rooms were comfortable, and the stay was hassle free. Services were top notch. Close to great shopping, and great restaurants.

This hotel has been recently renovated and it has a hip, retro feel to it. The lobby is spacious and open, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the rooms are really comfortable. They've really put thought into details, like the superior quality of the bedding and towels, as well as the alarm clock that shines the time on the ceiling, the excellent stereo system and flat screen TV. Plus it's situated just two blocks off the Miracle Mile on Michigan Avenue. My co-workers and I loved it and can't wait to go back!

The James Hotel is an ultra modern hotel with the best beds and linens you could hope to find! The rooms are very chic with a black/white theme and trendy modern furniture. Lighting is exceptional, bathrooms are spacious and sleek, and the wide screen wall TV's are an added bonus. The location is great with many good restaurants and other attractions nearby.

The James is by far the most modernistic display of fine hotels in the city. It brings a level of class and style that is unparalleled, from the modern decor to the upper class crowd that inhabits the hotel and bar. This has become my favorite hotel in Chicago and I would recommend it to anyone who appreciates the finer things in life.

Loved this hotel. It could have used more closet/drawer space, and the traffic in front of the hotel was pretty loud on the weekend nights. But the 42" plasma tv and stereo with ipod connection more than made up for it. Very comfortable bed, nicely furnished room. Great service.

Highly recommended. Excellent value for the money: upscale, great location, wonderful service from the cleaning staff to the concierge. Minibar nicely stocked without those outrageous prices that make you afraid to touch the contents! Hip, small bar with good service. Restaurant needs help with menu and the cafeteria boards have to go (are they a joke?)

Everything from arriving at the James and being welcomed by the friendly staff to the top shelf liquor bar and flat screen television the James was a fantastic experience. The staff was attentive and helpful, the valet driver full of smiles. Although the elevators were a little snug and less than timely, the hotel deserves 5 stars. My friend and I were even treated to passes at a local club and a fabulous breakfast in thier restaurant, Primehouse. The James is top notch for any traveler and truely caters to the needs of thier clientele.

We stayed here not soon after it opened. It is sleek, well located. The room leaves something to be desired. Too contemporary for me. The lights over the bed are on one control, so you and your room mate can't opt differently. The bathroom door is a oversized, heavy slider with a port hole! It way too heavy for a woman - you could dislocate a shoulder ! The room is tight with a table that is useless. The staff was absolutely great. The bathroom is big and you can shower overlooking Chicago. so if you want to be well located and don't care about a tight room or shutting the bathroom door, go for it !

The James was extensively renovated in March 2006 -- to create a modern hotel with a sophisticated, contemporary feel. In my opinion, it was extremely well done -- and a welcomed change from what hotel's usually have to offer. It was a pleasant walk to many of Chicago's hot spots. The food was excellent, and I especially enjoyed the later than usual check-out time.

My husband and I stayed at The James to celebrate our wedding anniversary. I have nohting but positive things to say about the appearance of the hotel. The staff was very friendly and personable and made an effort to make you feel comfortable. I only had a few minor complaints. The room was great, but for some reason, they put a pretty large coffee table in front of a wall sofa, which made it kind of hard to walk through the room. I really didn't understand it's purpose, especially it's size, as it made the room seem smaller than it was. The other thing was that because it was our anniversary, I had called days ahead of our check in to pre-pay and set up to have wine and cheese delivered to our room the first night and a bottle of champagne the second night. I specified what time I wanted each of these done as it was a surprise to my husband. The first delivery I had asked my bellboy to check on when I checked in and I never heard anyting. I had to call room service after it was 30 minutes late, with my husband in the room, hence ruining the surprise. The second night we had dinner reservations, so I asked that the champagne be delivered an hour and a half prior to when we had to leave. I had to call room service three times, again in front of my husband, before the champagne was brought to the room 10 minutes before we had to leave for dinner.
