I must say that booked this hotel about this time last year and liked it. This year I found the hotel actually better (Post-Katrina). The staff was very accomodating at every level. Our room was on the concierge level and extremely comfortable in comparison to other hotels in the French Quarter. Even though we were on Bourbon Street, I found that the room was quiet and my wife is a light sleeper and had no complaints. It is centrally located to anything in the Quarter, so everything is within walking distance. Next trip may try the "Garden" district for a change.

I consider myself to be a world traveler, traveling up to 100% for business-and the Royal Sonesta was exceptional, a top notch property. From the amazing lobby, relaxing swimming pool, extremely comfortable beds, free business center, great room service and staff- and of course the PERFECT location in the heart of Bourbon St, I can say nothing but positive things about this hotel. If you're looking for a fun experience on Bourbon St and looking to explore the French Quarter by foot STAY HERE!

We chose the Royal Sonesta for its French Quarter location and its restaurant, Begue's. We were quite pleased with both, but delightfully surpised by the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff, particularly the concierge and bellmen in a hotel of this size. From tips on the best place to get New Orleans snowballs, to best routes to get places, to suggesting a particular waiter at a nearby famous restaurant, the Royal Sonesta staff were absolute tops. Our evening meal at the elegant Begue's was a treat for the eyes as well as the palate and was accompanied by lovely piano playing. They served the most delicious liver pate and warm breads. Be careful not to fill up on them because they are only the first of many little "extras" that come with your meal, including at least two different "intermezzos." In post-Katrina New Orleans, establishments are grateful for your business, and they show it. We felt as if we were very special guests in deed.

The Sonesta has never disappointed me. It is not the quietest hotel, being right on Bourbon St (do not get a room with a balcony on Bourbon st unless planning to be up until 2-3 AM!), but the service is always impeccable and the rooms are very clean. I am in New Orleans for business 5-6 times/yr and this is where I stay.

Loved the room, the building and the location, but for being the quality of hotel it is, it should not have taken me almost an hour to find a valet for my car. Our room was across from the ice machine and the elevator... noisy all night, and all day. A real disapotintment condidering they bothered with triple pane glass to keep out all the street noise comming from Burbon outside our window. Lovely place, will not stay again.

We recently stayed at the Royal Sonesta Hotel in New Orleans. What a thoroughly pleasant experience. The hotel is clean, beautiful and a relaxing respite in the midst of Bourbon Street. The staff of the hotel couldn't be more accommodating and the beds are the most comfortable I've had in a hotel. The pool is exquisite. We will visit often and everytime, we will stay at the Royal Sonesta.

This is a great hotel at which to stay. The Quarter location right on Bourbon can't be beat. Only regret was I forgot to request a room in back rather than on Bourbon Street. It was a bit noisy. This was the third time I stayed there. Wouldn't definitely stay again. Great rate for the location. Staff very friendly. Free internet in business center was a great bonus.

The staff is, and always has been, consistenly outstanding, courteous and helpful while the hotel itself remains both a comfortable and lovely place to enjoy your visit in the French Quarter. There are several fine restaurants and bars to relax in (including the ones at the hotel) and enjoy fabulous food and drink all within walking distance.

My wife and I have been to New Orleans numerous times before Katrina, but we had never stayed at the Royal Sonesta. Curiousity finally got the best of us so we headed back to the French Quarter, a bit unsure of what to expect. Neither of us had stayed at the Royal Sonesta but we both were very pleased with the hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was very clean, and the hotel is centrally-located(right on Bourbon). Having stayed at a few hotels in New Orleans over the years, we both agreed this one may be the best one for the money. You can spend more on some other hotels in the area, but if you are looking for a reasonably priced, well-maintained hotel right in the heart of the Quarter, it will be hard to beat the Royal Sonesta. But one thing to consider- the Royal Sonesta is right across the street from Rick's Cabaret and a few other 'gentlemen's clubs'. Unless you are prepared to answer a few questions, you might not want to stay there IF you have children. The reason I mention this is due to my surprise at how many tourists were there with school-age children.

Anyone who wants to visit New Orleans should stay at the Royal Sonesta on Bourbon Street. We were there for our daughter's wedding & wow, what a time we all had. It was the best hotel & we highly recommend it to anyone planning a New Orleans/French Quarter visit. You get it all here! We are from the area, but recently moved after Katrina; it was our first trip back to the city & truly enjoyable. Everyone was so hospitable & friendly at the hotel. We didn't expect that after what we left behind. Thanks Royal Sonesta!!

The Royal Sonesta in the French Quarter is an elegant retreat, still in the middle of all the action. We were in walking distance from the French Market, Harrah's, amazing restaurants, shopping and New Orleans's famous nightlife. The concierge was most helpful, and the staff was friendly and hospitable. The Royal Sonesta is a very large hotel, but doesn't portray the "cold" atmosphere that some large establishments can bestow -- thanks in large part to the lush courtyards, well-landscaped pool area, numerous boutiques, and several restaurants. We had a fabulous time, and I can't wait to return!

The Royal Sonesta has always been a great place to stay. The price now is great because New Orleans really needs the tourist. The Royal Sonesta is as great as it ever was. Beautiful hotel, great staff,in the middle of the French Quarter. Don't worry about crime in the French Quarter, I have never seen the Quarter so well patrolled and protected. They are having a problem with garbage pickups. Bags on the side walk on every street. Locals say there are so many jobs to be had that no one wants to work on the garbage trucks.

This was really a wonderful hotel. The only problem we encountered was with the in house phones. Our parties were in seperate rooms and we were not able to call from room to room on the in room hotel phone. We had to utilize our cell phones which had poor reception in the hotel. One of the phones had a do not disturb feature on it that the management was not able to remove. Slight inconveinence but overall GREAT experience!

When we went to New Orleans, we did not want to bother with a rental car, directions and parking. So, we booked a hotel right on Bourbon Street and right in the middle of everything. It was easy for us to walk to any destination in and around the French Quarter. The hotel was very stylish with a beautiful courtyard, the service was very professional and helpful, and the room was both quiet and comfortable. You can find all the shopping and dining you need in the hotel, but their restaurants are rather trendy and pricy. The gift shop is nice, affordable, and the staff is friendly. I would definitely pay extra for this hotel, and I would recommend it to my friends.

No stuffed shirts here! And, I guess, that is our primary reason for loving the Sonesta so much...so many comparable hotels are filled with staffs that look down their noses at regular people, like us...but that has NEVER happened to us at the Royal Sonesta!
