The Hotel was just what we wanted. Perfect location with a friendly, non-pushy staff. We tried several beaches while in Maui and always came back to the beach right out the hotel's back door. We stayed in an Ocean View room and thought it was nice. Next time we'll get a cottage though. My only complaint was the price of the food and services in/around the hotel. Everything in Maui was pricey though. I highly recommend the Royal Lahaina.

We stayed in a gardenview cottage. I would recommend staying in an oceanview instead. When we checked in there was a huge (5 inch) spider in our room, i understand its a topical island but we had to call house keeping twice before they came to take care of the matter. The shower would take about 45 minutes before it drained enough so someone else could take a shower. The last night there was a mouse running around the room, they moved us into another room but there shouldn't have been rodents in the room. There also seemed to be a small ant problem. i think a 2 out of 5 is generous.

this hotel was probably a nice place to stay 20 years ago, but it is very apparent why they are completely gutting the place for an upgrade, and their plans look very appealing. The hotel service did a very good job with what they had, nice restaurant, cleaning services, etc; but the room decor, bathroom fixtures were nothing to show off (rusty light fixtures, tub liner peeling, drain clogged, water temperature inversions). We put in for a work order on the second day to fix the tub draining problem and the air conditioning that barely blew air and received a message that it had been corrected, but I understand that they probably needed full replacement on this, which is what was happening on the upper floors. Crews were completely gutting the rooms in the daytime and working their way down, plumbing and all. I wish I had an insight on this upon booking the trip, as I would have selected another hotel

Sure it's not as fancy as some hotels but who stays in their room the majority of the time when they are in Maui?? I've stayed there both times when I was in Maui. The hotel staff is extremely friendly. My favorite was the breakfast buffet! The hotel Luau is very entertaining as well. Overall good price for the location.

After reading the comments on Expedia, we weren't sure what to expect but we were pleasantly suprised. We had an ocean view that was breathtaking and even though we were in a bldg without an elevator the bellman was quick to take our luggage up and down for us. The service upon checking in was fast/easy. The Luao gives such a feel of the island's heritage and customs. We loved it all. The best part was you could walk just steps out your door and onto the beach where beautiful coral and hawaiian fish wait to greet you! Big thumbs up for this resort!!

Best value in Ka'anapali. Short walk to Whaler's Village and golf. Snorkel right of the beach in front of the hotel. Clean pools with bars in front of both of them. Under remodel but not an imposition. Great view. Garden View room actually had partial ocean view and the "Garden View" is the beautiful garden in Hawaii. Some reviews complained about rooms, but that was not my experience at all. Knowledgable staff that is more than willing to help or answer any questions at all hours of the night. Make sure to arange transportation to and from hotel/airport. Taxi is about $65.00 but a shuttle for 2 with luggage was only $42.00. Strongly recommend to anyone that wants a comfortable stay, a great beach, great food without 5 star accomadations. Order the "PIYI" at the bar, you won't be disappointed.

We stayed in the garden section of the hotel. The room needed updated badly. We had cockroaches the first 2 days. My sister's room had an army of ants. The hotel nickeled and dimed for everything (coffee, safe, parking). The beach was great and that is why the vacation was not a bust. The staff were very slow. It took 2 hours to check 6 people in. IF you are looking to be pamper this is not the place. But if you can over look it.. it is the best beach.

Yes, it is not as grand or new as the other high-end hotels, but the good service, professional staff, and fantastic location of the hotel more than make up for what it lacks. We witnessed some of the best sunsets from our very own balcony (Tower/Ocean View room, which I recommend). The grounds are very well kept and the beautiful, sandy beach more than make-up for the small swimming pools. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is currently undergoing major renovations, and we can't wait to go back once everything is done! Mahalo to everyone at Royal Lahaina! You made our 1st Maui visit special!

I had high expectations prior to getting to the hotel. When we first got to the hotel I was disappointed in how old the resort looked. The cottages and tthe television channels were very limited only a few channels and nearly every one of them was a news channelhe rooms were not at all attractive.restaurant and we were served small portions and the desert we ordered seemed to be poor quality for the price paid.We had to go through bushes and climb up and down dangerous stairs to get to the beach. My only major complaint was the luau. The entertainment was actually really good. But, the food was not. It was bland and needed salt. It just did not have very much flavor. The resort sells too many tickets to the show. There were just so many people in too small of a space. Everyone being so close to one another made us uncomfortable. the setting was not very nice at all the floor was not grass is was a dirt gravel floor and the way we were seated there was no elbow room

I was not impressed with the cleanliness of our room. We had a little cottage outside the main hotel. The shower was bad- the water was either scalding hot or cold. The food at the Luau was horrible. The food at the breakfast buffet was good. For what we could afford, this place was ok. It was sort of cute and the location was good.

Although this hotel is one of the oldest along this stretch of beach, I was very satisfied with my time there. After booking the hotel and reading a few bad reviews, I was a little skeptical if I made the right decision. Once I got there, I realized we made the right choice. I didnt see many kids or families at this hotel, which made it feel less touristy. If you go to any of the resorts south of the Black Rock, you will see the crowds and the busy beaches. This hotel has the one of the quietest beaches I saw on the island (I went to 25+ beaches) and I really liked the openness of the hotel and how they have the beach/garden cottages along the open golf course and the beach. I could see the mountains and the rainbows from the beach and garden, which was really nice. Another thing, the food here was great!!! That was some of the best food I have ever eaten, and the prices were reasonable. I had almost everything on the menu over my time there and I cant complain about one thing. They also give you a bunch of coupons at check-in. The service is a little slow, but hey your in Hawaii, what's the rush. Make sure you get the upgraded parking pass; the drinks are worth it alone and the in-room safe made us feel extra safe. I dont know what its like in the tower rooms, we stayed in the garden cottage which were chill, and made the walk to the beach was like 30 seconds. Next time I come to Kaanapali this is probably where I will stay.

This hotel is a great one for a good hotel without being to pricey. It's located on the best part on kannapali beach. Try the buffet it's the best. If you don't like kannapali beach because it's to calm theres alot of beach parks by the hotel. The food at the hotel restraunts are expensive, but everywhere in maui is. The rooms are good, the royal hale building seems better because it's right on the beach so get an ocean view. If you like shopping go to front street in lahaina or whalers village by all the resorts.

We checked into the beach cottage. The baseboards were filthy, paint chipped on all shelves, peeling off walls, shutters were broken, drawers did not open properly, closet doors off hinges, BUGS, filthy, thin walls. We were moved to an ocean front room in the tower which was nicer, but it was still decreped. Mildew, etc. They were remodeling the higher floors so it was also quite noisy. Hopefully if someone stays there in the future, you will get a remodeled room. Breakfast and dinner was good. Drinks are overpriced. Beach and grounds were very nice however.

This hotel is much nicer than some previous reviews indicate. The grounds, view, and beach area are very nice. Stay in the tower rather than the Hale Building. A partial ocean view room above the 5th floor is a good value and an excellent view. Hotel restaurant coupons are worthwhile. Front Street restaurants are expensive. McGillycuddy's and Bubba Gumps are reasonable. The breakfast buffet at the hotel is excellent and a good value with the coupon.

Pros - Good value for the Kaanapali area. Centrally located. Very nice pools and beach. Great snorkeling within walking distance. Very clean. $16 resort fee included 2 MaiTais per day and all the extras like in-room coffee. Cons - Older, lots of peeling paint in room. When we first arrived in the room, there was a notice that they would be spraying for pests the next day. That wasn't the ideal first impression. Parking...you had to hunt for spots that were sometimes scarce and pretty far away (and you've paid the daily parking fee). Very expensive cocktails at the bar
