| The hotel is old and reminds me of the Winchester Mystery House - it looks like they added wings of rooms to an original hotel creating a maze effect. Finding your room can be somewhat of a challenge because of this. The arrows are not just left and right - they are angled up/down left/right. There are no elevators so pack lightly. They use metal keys to open the doors and you may find that yours sticks. Don't give up - it'll open eventually. All in all the hotel was old but clean. There was air conditioning and a little refrigerator. Both worked. Parking is very bad if you don't time it right. You sometimes need to wait until everyone is leaving to get a space.

| The hotel is ok considering that we weren't in the room much. Being that it's an older hotel, we weren't expecting too much but the rooms were comfortable. We had no complaints and we were comfortable but if want some quiet time, book a room away from the pool as the noise can be a little annoying. Also, keep in mind that there is a limited amount of parking at the hotel so you may need to park around the restaurant area or across the stress in the empty lot. Other than that, the staff at the hotel and restaurant were extremely friendly. The restaurant in the hotel serves up delicious local breakfasts and we enjoyed our stay there.

| This hotel looks and feels 40 years old; not retro cool old, neglected old. The intire complex (which winds around like a rabbit warren), smells of mildew. The walls are very thin, so you can hear everything from your neighbors. Luckily, the window-mounted AC unit is very loud, though not loud enough to drown out the planes landing at Hilo Int'l Airport (the hotel is apparently directly under the flight path). There are few modern conveniences, like Internet connectivity or even a hair dryer, though the TV does have many channels. And if you rent a car, plan on street parking. On the upside, the staff is very friendly and will happily direct you wherever you need to go.

| We got there in October 2005, which is the low tourism season in Hawaii, so we got a very good price for the room. We ended up staying many nights.

| We were there at this hotel for 4 nights and pretty much happy for the price paid. The major deawback at this hotel is that since it is situated right at the highway there is a lot of traffic noise till late night. Also the rooms are not at all sound proof, so if there is a guest at odd hours you can hear everything all thru the corridor. Ofcourse the best part of this hotel is its location - near to the highway, eating places, & just a mile from downtown.

| You can hear just about everything that goes on in this hotel from your room. People talking outside, from the next room, rain pounding on the roof. Very dim lighting. The A/C does bot work very well either.

| Good clean hotel, parking a bit of an issue, hotel people are nice, restaurant/coffee shop is clean, good value for money. Has a pool. All is well taken care of. Not a fancy hotel but there is so much to see in and around Hilo, so probably not much time at hotel.

| I have been staying at this hotel for 35 years and would not pick another place to stay. Parking is a big problem here unless you are back by 3 or 4PM. Staff is very friendly and eager to help. If your looking for a quiet, relaxing place to stay this is your pick.

| Nothing fancy here. Plastic plants and flowers fill the open-air lobby. Swimming pool mostly for adults because it is quite deep. Crowded area, popular with locals for swimming in ocean lagoon across the street, making parking a problem. Attached restaurant too expensive, but good drive-in nearby for affordable food. Rooms are clean, but cheaply furnished and not comfortable because of lack of decent chairs. TV offers numerous mainland channels. Nice small refrigerator in room, ceiling fan and adequate air conditioner. Middle class and lower stay here. Not memorable.

| Somewhat rude front desk clerk. Room was extremely noisy since all of the windows in the wing we were on all faced a courtyard where people sat and visited with one another until well after dark. It was like a low budget motel where low income people lived on a permanent basis and they all got together of an evening and sat outside their doors. Even got to listen to some of them burp a few times!!!! Probably the worst hotel/motel we have ever stayed in. Will never stay there again!!!

| When I got there, one of the beds had been made up with changing the sheets. When I let them know, they came and changed the sheets, but did not change the pillow case. The second day I was there, I noticed one of the koi in th pond was dead. I reported it to the desk, but the dead koi was still there when I checked out. Tho the restaurant seemed to be clean, I had dead ants on my papaya when it was served. The service in the restaurant was bad. I suggest that AAA should reconsider their recommendation of the hotel.

| Very old hotel with convoluted flooplans. Due to Hilo being the rainy side of Hawaii, our room felt very damp and used towels never dried. Had some rowdy neighbors one night and had to call front desk..they did resolve the problem quickly. When we arrived we were told that we would have to have a room on the third floor since that was the only king bed room they had left. Well since we had 2 very heavy suitcases and they had no elevator we declined that offer and took a room on the first floor with double beds. We were told to return in an hour and that room would be ready. We took a drive with nowhere in mind and stumbled across a beautiful scenic drive with awesome views of the ocean. Glad we made that decision. On site restaurant was very good and reasonably priced. The view of Hilo Bay and the charm I could feel the hotel had in its heyday made the few problems even out. Didn't get a chance to use the pool, but it looked very clean and and the pool area was ample. Beds and pillows very soft too! Be sure to check out the Koi pond. Parking is the major complaint I have with this hotel. Very limited space on site and mosttimes forced to park our rental along a busy road and walk back to hotel. Pack earplugs...the hotel is in the fligh path of the airport and early in the AM the planes start their runs jolting you straight up in bed.

| It was okay if you are trying to save money and only planning on staying there the night before you fly out, otherwise, if staying for more than one night, please try elsewhere. They have a "continental "breakfast in the morning, but only if you consider a few cut up pastries and fake juice a breakfast. I guess it is "free". Room was VERY modest, with bed and small tv, no balcony, very loud old window air-conditioner and also no real windows, just the slat kind...so you can hear everyone. Also, it appeared as though this hotel gets booked for big travelling groups, b/c we were woken up at 5 am by a group of people leaving and had a hard time trying to sleep after that.

| Of the 11 different places we stayed during our 3 weeks in Hawaii, this was the cheapest--and it was better than several of the others. It had most everything we wanted and somewhat more than we expected for the rock-bottom price we paid. You don't get a mini-fridge, a balcony, and on-site laundry facilities in some places, but you do here. Now it is old (we thought it was quaint-others might react more negatively), there's no elevator (and access to all rooms--even those on the "first" floor--require going up some steps) and parking would be a problem if they were full. But overall, we thought they offered a good value.

| The Hilo Seaside Hotel brings back the Tranquility of the 40s and 50s. The quiet internal garden just outside our door gave an atmosphere of HAWAII only 5 feet away, rather than a typical dismal hotel corridor. The courtyard pool reminded me of the 1940's movies about Hawaii and provided hours of relaxation after a day's sightseeing. Just outside the Main Entrance, is a HUGE Koi Pond! covering hundreds of square feet of lily pads and brightly colored Koi. These fish eagerly came up to the parking lot rail for feeding each time that we walked by. Parking was adequate. The Hotel is adjacent to Hilo Bay and the Lovely Coconut Island Park, perfect for peaceful level walks and picnics. The drive down to Richardson's Bay Park where you can enjoy swimming with Sea Turtles is only a few miles. Hilo is a sleepy little community, so remember that the KONA Side, about two hours drive away, brings in all the nightlife. The Volcano National Park is about an hour's drive to the southwest, where you can still view flowing lava and the newest rocks on earth! I travel to Hilo often on family business and I prefer to stay at the Hilo Seaside rather than any of the multi-story hotels. The pleasant staff go out of their way to make sure that you are comfortable, and on one trip they even did my laundry for me. I guess that it is the family attitude of the staff and the simple relaxing atmosphere of the property that keep me going back.
