Perfect location for seeing the town with children. Easy subway, museum and park access. Easily took the subway to Shea Stadium with two young boys for Mets game. We only ate at restaurants within walking distance and each one was superb: India Bistro, Citrus, Papardelle. Concierge very helpful and arranged babysitter during one afternoon while I was at business meeting and did follow-up to see if I was pleased. The restaurant next door for breakfast was outstanding and a decent price with hotel discount. Will definitely return with or without my kids.

I have been to NYC 4 times in the last 4 months, and this was by far my best hotel experience. Because I travel to NYC to visit our corporate offices, I try keep my hotel expenses as reasonable as possible. The Lucerne was a great place for the money. The room was good sized, clean, and comfortable. The internet usage rates were very reasonable. There was easy access to the Subway, and the trip to Wall St. was a breeze. The restaurant selection around the hotel was great. I enjoyed my morning walk in Central Park!

Love this hotel! I have been here many times, and had only one small problem, which was duly rectified. The neighborhood is upper west, quiet, great boutiques, restaurants,( &Zabaars!) near Museum of Natural History, the park, etc, quiet enough for a country liver like myself, with cool elegance of true New Yorkers commited to service and professionalism. Nice Matin does most of the room service, and is healthy, delicious and gourmet. A favorite for famous artists, musicians, and eclectic travellers from around the globe.

My main problem with the Lucerne was that we requested a non-smoking room, and we got one-- between 2 smoking rooms. Our room smelled strongly of smoke, especially in the bathroom. When I got home, my suitcase and clothes I hadn't worn in NYC smelled like cigarette smoke. Other problems were that there seemed to be a lack of maintenence. We had a gap in our bathroom ceiling, things like switch plates and grout were dirty, and the furniture was a little dingy. I have never stayed in New York before, so I don't have anything to compare the Lucerne with, but I definitely wouldn't call it luxurious. On the postive side, the staff in the lobby was great. The doormen and concierge were extremely helpful and friendly, and they made up for my other disappointments.

We stayed here because it was closer to Columbia University than other hotels in the midtown area, and quieter than staying near Times Square. We were in town for graduation. The neighborhood is really nice - an easy stroll over to Central Park, and lots of good restaurants and interesting shops nearby. Our first room was very small, but the front desk was able to move us to a larger, corner room before we had unpacked. The bathroom even had a window in it. The room was well-kept, and surprisingly quiet given the bussle of the neigborhood and the fact that the hotel was nearly sold out each night we were there. We never did hear any neighbors, unless they were in the hallway or let their room door slam shut (warning - all the doors seem to do this). The restaurant, Nice Matin, is very nice. We ate breakfast there several times, and had drinks there a couple of nights, too. The subway is at the end of the block, and there are convenient shops (drug store, cleaners, deli, bagels, etc.) within feet of the front door. Starbucks was about 3 blocks away.

The Upper West Side is a great area to stay while visiting NY... very relaxing after spending a day with large crowds of people. The Lucerne only adds to that relaxing atmosphere. Rooms are quiet, comfortable, and well appointed. The adjoining restaurant is perfect for a quick or a leisurely breakfast. The subway is only one block away, but exploring the neighborhood's restaurants, shops, quaint side streets, and Central Park definitely should be a part of one's stay.

Great location, yummy restaurant downstairs, decent-sized rooms. Our only complaint is that the maid service could have been more sensitively timed -- we asked for the room to be cleaned when we were out, but they didn't do it until we were back in the room and it was inconvenient.

We stayed during the weekend of the big snow storm. We first asked for a late checkout ultimately changing to spend a second night. None of this was a problem for the efficient and very courteous staff. Room was small with no space for comfortable chairs; room service would have been really difficult. Had two dinners and two breakfasts at attached restaurant Nice Matin. Food was very good, not exorbitantly priced and service was excellent and friendly. This is a great location out of the hectic activity of mid-town. Great local restaurants and shops, museums nearby, Central Park (a winter wonderland that weekend!), Lincoln Center, safe parking (pricey at $42/night), easy to get cabs, subways or bus. We would return.

I didn't stay in the room much since it was New Year's weekend and I wanted to do as much sight seeing as possible; especially planning time for the wait in lines! The room was small but comfortable enough to stay in. I wouldn't mind having the bathrooms bigger. It's pretty cramped in there. Oh - some of the outlets do not work...maybe some maintenance will help fix that. The people there provided good service. I didn't have any issues with the people there.

If there's a drawback for people, the Lucerne is in a part of NYC off the most bustling area, so you'll need lots of cabs or the subway. I LOVE the relaxed, unhurried, workaday atmosphere of the Upper West Side, so that was a real plus (I HATE Times Square!). The hotel is conventional, so you won't get an experience that pushes stylistic boundaries, but it is lovely, staffed by smiling, solicitous people, the rooms are large, the bathrooms are even more roomy and even pretty, the beds are sooooo comfortable, and you could eat off the floors. A great place to relax and rest in the city, I would easily return, and a terrifically soothing place that welcomes families.

This is a small European-style hotel with excellent support staff. The room was a little too warm (but all NY hotels are too warm during the winter) but everything else was top of the line - very quiet even though we were across from the elevators. Nice-Matin Restaurant next door was fantastic - great food, good & friendly service and no cell phones in use anywhere. Unless we are required to stay at some other hotel for a meeting, this is our preferred place to stay in NYC from now on.

Our hotel room in the Lucerne Hotel was nice and spacious - for New York standards. We had a GREAT view from our room on the 11th floor. Another plus, you can get either the New York Times or U.S. Today everymorning. Our biggest issue w/ the hotel, you can hear everything. We could hear other guests turning on and off the water, flushing toilets, etc.

Got a corner room on the 7th floor. It was very clean and spacious. Was able to move one of the two full-size beds to the wall so that my 7-month old could sleep next to me - the underneath of the bed was very clean. There were three adult women and the baby and we had plenty of room to spread out. The shower was great. And the street noise wasn't bad. The upper westside location is near restaurants, the train, and lots of shopping, parks, and museums. I will always stay at this hotel when I visit NYC for business and/or pleasure.

We will not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone planning to stay in NYC and we plan to stay here again. The doormen were very helpful and available. My husband and I stayed here for two nights with our two children. We found the room to be very new and clean and well layed out. We had a fourth floor room overlooking the street and found it to be suprisingly quiet. I would have prefered two queen size beds instead of doubles, but for New York, that is pretty typical. The building itself was very beautiful and the staff was excellent. The main reson we loved it was LOCATION. It was within walking distance to the museums, Central Park and convenient to the subway and buses.

I had booked a "Queen delux" room. When I checked in I was given a rather small room on the third floor overlooking an air shaft - dark and depressing. I complained and was moved to a higher floor overlooking the street. Not a single queen bed but with two large beds which was not a problem for me. If the hotel could not have changed my room I woulld have had to leave, as I considered the first room very unacceptable ,espcially for a five night stay.

We've stayed twice at the Lucerne, and found it to be a very comfortable hotel with a pleasant and attentive staff. For example, on our most recent trip, after learning that our room did not have high-speed Internet access, the gentleman at the desk arranged to move us to a different room the next day. We went about our business the next morning, and when we returned that afternoon, all of our belongings had been moved to a room with high-speed access (and a much better view, to boot!). The location, at 79th and Amsterdam on the Upper West Side, is convenient to the subway, and there's a drug store and a liguor store just across the street. What more can you ask? High
