| Very friendly and helpful employees Surprised that didn't serve fresh eggs on the breakfast buffet, but prepared them for you if requested Small bathroom, but newly redone air conditioner...semi-cool only (only aspect that really disappointed me) would stay here again depending on the time of year and need of air conditioner beautiful common area interiors located very well for tourism

| Planned a last minute trip to Charleston for Memorial weekend and got the Francis Marion hotel. It was in a pretty good location since the Spoleto arts festival was going on. The art booths were across the street at Marion park. Easy checkin/out. Nice employees. Had to pay for self parking in garage nearby. Room was smaller than I thought would be, esp bathroom. However, got king bed and was very comfortable. This is most important in rating a hotel for me. King street right next to the hotel with restaurants and shopping. Market street ~15 minute walk. Can take bicycle "rickshaw" if not want to walk. I would stay here again.

| My first night in my room I was walking on large pieces of broken glass that were getting stuck in my bare feet. They cleaned it the next day but I found another piece. The air conditioner had one temperature, Frigid. The window did not close all the way which made the room very noisy. My room faced a very busy street. My room was never cleaned one day. The only good thing I can say about it was their restaurant was excellent.

| Francis Marion is a beautiful Historic hotel. However, our room was not serviced until 4:30pm on Friday afternoon. Just as we arrived back to get showered for our 6pm dinner reservations. When we spoke to the on duty manager all he said "We will let house keeping know, and hopefully this issue will be resolved for future guests." He was not customer friendly and told us he had no authority to do anything for us. So, we were not able to get into our room till 5pm.

| We checked out of this hotel and the desk clerk tried to charge us for 2 nights after we had already paid on line. Then he tried to tell us we stayed in a room no. that we were not in. they had us mixed up with another couple with a similar last name, but they handled it very rudely and acted like they did not believe us. The man summoned his supervisor who just kept saying, "this is strange". She was not polite or helpful either. It was a very unpleasant experience and i would NOT stay here again. Also the parking is very inconvenient.

| Service was spotty at best. They had to pick up the tab for a breakfast that took over 30 minutes to arrive. There was a bartender who was more interested in her cell phone and fingernails than customers. The showerhead was one of those ones that if you stand JUST in the right place you can get wet.... Next time I'll stay somewhere else.

| Overall, this hotel is better than most older hotels I've stayed at. The rooms do show some age, but the king room with a great view of historic Charleston was pretty good. The plumbing needs some help, but I got a very spacious room near everything I needed to get to. Its proximity next to a college campus meant some noise during the night hours, but it was tolerable.

| The Francis Marion is a typical VERY old hotel. The loby is very impressive. The sleeping room, while the bed was very confortable, was very small. The room was so small the TV was on the wall on the left side of the bed. The bathroom even smaller. It appeard to be a closet coverted into a bath. No counter space! Absolutely too small. The wall paper was peeling off the wall. In addition, you have to pay to park your car. Will not stay there on return trips.

| 2 years ago I stayed here and it was one of the worst hotel experiences of my life - no heat, no hot water, room was the size of a closet, view of a brick wall, terrible room service, and no response from the manager regarding any of these issues. This time was a complete turnaround. The room was spacious, comfortable, and everything worked properly. Even the hotel restuarant food was excellent.

| Not a bad place. Would have preferred something closer to the market area, though overlooking the park was not bad for New Years. Room was small and overlooked a roof below and a brick wall of the parking garage. However, service was fiendly and prompt and the room did serve its purpose - sleeping. I recommend an upgrade from the standard room for extended stays unless you aren't going to be spending a lot of time in it.

| My husband and I just got back from Charleston and would recommend this lovely old hotel to anyone who enjoys the ambiance of days gone by. The service was very good and we were delighted to find that we had been upgraded to a suite when we checked in. We were celebrating our 23rd anniversary and we were not dissappointed. Granted, the bathrooms are small and there are the odd aesthetic imperfections, but overall we were very pleased. The bed is probably the most comfortable I've ever had at a hotel. Love the down duvet!

| The Francis Marion is an oldie but very goodie, from the gorgeous chandeliers throughout the lobby, to the tile bathroom. Our kingsize room was spacious, clean and all we needed. The only shortcoming was the position of the tv in its cabinet, made viewing from the bed a one-sided affair. Situated on King Street, you can park in their garage, and walk to everything you'd want for a wonderful, Charleston-style escape. We will definitely go back. Great coffee shop downstairs, too!
