| This hotel was not great, not even good. The exterior is promising, but that's where it ends. First, the rooms were in very poor condition; blinds falling off the windows, bed parts falling off, etc. Second, the hotel staff was not particularly accomodating, helpful, nor friendly. Last, no parking! You have to park across the street at in a city lot for $16 a night. Keep looking..

| I was not impressed with this hotel. It has no parking, the room smelled, the bed linens and towels were threadbare, the windows were filthy.

| My room had a great view of the hills. Good location, friendly staff. Hotel is older, though.

| This hotel has a lot of rough edges (only one non-service elevator; a bit grimy; lousy breakfast; metal keys; etc.), but was a comfortable place to stay. And of course the location is great--very close to campus and in the middle of downtown Berkeley. Wireless in the lobby was a nice touch.

| This hotel is very unique, not really a high quality, modern hotel but very old fashion and quaint. I recommend this hotel if you want a taste of Berkeley's ambience.

| The hotel looks decent from the outside but the inside is a whole other story. The historic and old feel is quaint but is not an excuse for poor facilities. The furniture was minimal, the walls were almost bare, and it just had an unclean feel to it. The rooms were tiny which I suppose can be attributed to the age of the hotel. The location is ideal but there is no parking unless you want to park across the street in an unafiliated garage for at least $16 a day. The stay was definetly not worth the price.

| This hotel provided a convenient location, but that was about it. The facilities were very dated, and for the price paid, it was not worth it. I would recommend this hotel only as a last resort!

| This is a very old hotel with no air conditioning and only one elevator that sometimes works. Ice is hard to find and pillows exist in name only.

| This hotel showed a great rate for a two-night weekend stay but I should have checked it out first. The room was above Shadduck Ave.(facing BART and lots of street traffic), had an overhead fan and windows that opened but no AC. Would be noisy for some sleepers. Other rooms have been updated (including a card key instead of a real metal key!) but not all so check before jumping at the "best" rate! The lower rate rooms may be to accommodate visiting students on a very tight budget but, if you can afford it, go for the better appointed rooms.

| We found this hotel to be bearly passable. The lobby looked great and the location near Cal Berk. is handy. Our room was very shabby and sparse...hard spartan beds, rough and thin towels smelling of an odd detergent, few electrical outlets, cramped bathroom and only one of the two elevators worked. The free breakfast turned out to be a loaf of cheap bread, instant orange juice that looked like Kool-aid and an urn of coffee...no thanks.

| First they had NO parking arranagements for their guests, in downtown Berkeley. They suggested I plug a meter all day, and check into a garage across the street for $16 per night with no in and out option. The room was filthy. Hair on the bathroom floor which I asked to be cleaned (while I was driving around for 45 minutes trying to park) and it was not. There was no coffee pot. They window was filthy. Their were 15 watt bulbs in the ceiling, and patches all over the wall paper.

| My wife and I stayed in old, dumpy hotels like this on our honeymoon...which was many years ago. The hotel lobby was ok. But the rooms stank of bleach, the carpet was threadbare and patched, windows cracked, walls hadn't seen paint in years, towels superthin. You get the picture. This is an old hotel that has not aged gracefully. There are so many other choices a bit further away that offer modern rooms, modern amenities at a comparable price once you add in $20 for parking, and $20 for breakfast. The one good note is that the hotel staff are very friendly and kind.
