| This hotel was a giant disappointment. The property is old and in desperate need of renovation - They had to work on our AC (room was hot), replace the ceiling fan (wobbled and made an awful noise) and the TV (just did not work). The room was dirty, maid service was terrible and the bathroom was gross. Food prices are astronomical and food was good, but not great and you are captive once there with no options. Staff was about 50% terrific service and friendly and 50%of them were just lazy. Things around the property were constantly broken (elevators, escalators, doors, funicular - tram to get to lower hotel). We just hated it and it was one of the most expensive vactions we have taken. Everything looks so much nicer on the website than it actually is!

| It is a huge hotel and everything is very far away. Getting to the beach is a oain, you have to wait for a ferry which takes you to an island where the only option is a junk food bar. You have to pay $15 for each night you leave the car in the parking, plus the procedure of getting in and out is a pain!! Everything is complicated!! The breakfast is $25 per person! Not even in NYC do I pay $25 for a whole brunch... The room was dirty and during the whole stay they never cleaned it. They only changed the towels and did the beds. However the area where the hotel is is gorgeous and the staff is very helpful and friendly. But the quality of the hotel is not at all what we expected. I would never go back. You should rather look at other hotels near Fajardo or Luquillo, but not this one.

| The Island is fabulous...take a boat out (twelve to 15 minute trip)Snorkeling is incredible, everything on the island is charged to your room(no cash accepted) its ok,. Island and hotel is nicely kept and clean, food variety is great from seafood to burgers, from high end to fast food. good atmosphere on both the island and mainland. favorite place was Bally-hoo (a bar in the marina) Hotel is located in a cliff and you must take a gondola type car (fantastic views) to get to the marina and other rooms. Excellent place to stay.

| This hotel is so amazing with something for everyone. The Palamino Island is a great day at the beach. The casino is small, but offers all the most popular games. There are so many places to dine, you can stay for a week and never eat at the same place twice. The spa & salon offer a huge variety of services - the platinum pedicure was amazing. It is a great place to relax!

| The hotel is one of the most beautiful properties I've seen. The problems we had with it are: - room price was reasonable, but once on the property, restaurant prices are outrageous and the food is not that good - the hotel does not encourage going off the property to restaurants, even though there are some good ones. don't expect good recommendations from the concierge desk. They clearly favor certain restaurants and services and are told to recommend them. - If you do not have a car, the taxi rates are very high. We found out that the hotel does not allow lower priced taxis and car services on the property, so the expensive ones are your only option. Ex., we went to a very good restaurant (recommended by a friend) only 2 miles away and the car service charged us $20 each way! - the service is spotty on the plus side: - the infinity pool is the best I've ever seen - the property is beautiful - the beach is great, even though you have to take a ferry to get there

| The resort, inside and out was beautiful, staff very friendly and helpful. Only negatives were the restaurants, mediocre and expensive. If the quality was better I would not mind the price, but they need new chefs in all of the restaurants. The stay was wonderful however and they are planning complete room makeovers and waterpark for next year.

| You must go to Palomino Island but be prepared to wait in line for the ferry service. They fill up quickly so go as early in the day as possible. The housekeeping was lacking but all issues were resolved quickly. They are updating the rooms this summer so it should be great when that is finished. Sometimes difficult getting around the property-only 2 funiculars going up and down the cliff so there were occasionally long waits. Others have complained about the food/drink prices but I don't think they were out of line with other places.

| If I wanted a two star hotel, I would have requested one. The rooms are poorly decorated and motel-like, the bathrooms are old and dirty looking and the resort was average. This is not a four star resort by any stretch of the imagination. And, unfortunately, it is too far from everything else to actually leave and get a good meal. The beach is a ridiculous commute so the pool is completely occupied by 7 am. Completely unhappy and dissapointed!

| It's a beautiful hotel with a lot to offer. My traveling companions and I didn't have to leave the resort (except to go snorkeling with "East Wind" which was excellent). My only complaint was after returning to the room each day (4 days 3 nights) we weren't supplied with washcloths (as we were when we arrived) but the service was prompt. I'm not sure if there are events every night because I was attending a radio station event so they had activities for us to partake in, but there was still plenty to do. Palomino Island itself is worth going back to. I was very fortunate that I stayed here considering I didn't know what to expect of Puerto Rico other than what I encounter here in New York (as far as personalities and courtesy) but surprisingly everyone (for the most part) was helpful.

| the largest negative was the mold in our bathroom. our room #4144 probably is in one of the oldest buildings of the hotel, but that doesn't excuse the mold. we loved the island beach, as well as the boat ride to the island. Additional umbrellas or shaded areas on the island, as well as the pools would be positive. we didn't enjoy either the choice of music or it's loudness at the pools. in general we enjoyed the resort and the facilities and would probably go to the el conquistador again.

| This resort had such a good reputation that we thought for sure it would be this luxurious vacation. The room was mediocre at best. Although the staff was friendly, it certainly was not anything special or above and beyond any other hotel we have visited. The resort was nice, but not our cup of tea. The week we were there the majority of the guests were families. It was not the romantic island getaway at all. The beach at palamino island was nice. I had a massage at the spa that was just OK. For $110 I thought it would have been the best I had ever had....it certainly wasn't. This is somewhat a negative review, but for us it just was not the vacation we were looking for. We just felt the resort catered to the higher end of society, not the average person.

| High priced food is expected at resorts and El Conquistador did not disappoint. This did not bother me however since I expected it. The property is beautiful but in need of reparation. They have a $100 million renovation project expected to kick off. Depending on where your room is this place could be a logistical nightmare. From the marina to the furthest room is at least 15 minutes, via walk, elevator and tram. I'd suspect the renovation may address its weaknesses. Their private island (beach) is gorgeous but bring booties as the sand is crushed coral and can be quite uncomfortable to uncovered feet. The El was very reasonably priced (even considering the food) but I would not return there until the renovations are complete. This is not a 4 star hotel until the renovations are complete.

| The hotel has a wonderful location, beautiful pools and a nicely kept golf course but that is all. It is a rip of from the beginning to the end. Some examples: parking 25$ for residents, they do not allow a guest to visit you or pick you up, shops within the hotel 3-4x as expensive as outside, 1 dinner for 2 at least 50$ and the food is not that great at all, run-down rooms with broken equipment (refrigerator, radio) and furniture, phone calls from the room starting with 18$ flat rate even within the island!

They may have upgraded their food supply, I don't know, but when we went we were happy. It is true that the food is a expensive and so we were glad that we rented a car and was able to venture out into to local area to get other means of nurishment. | Hello, Hotel is great location wise the view in incredible but because it is located out of no where the food is extremely expnesive and not even tasty or worthed it feels like a big rip off, I always stay at 5 star hotels and I am very sorry to say this butthe quality of service does not match with 5 star hotel standarts. The so called private island is not private at all it gets extremely crowded and noisy on the weekends. The view of the hotel is beautiful but waitin to get on the funiculars was bad also. The hotel is far far away from the city. If you are looking for a romantic getaway do not stay there on the weekend hotel gets crowded with outsiders and the so called private island as well. on the palomina island you see private boats anchored 2 metres away from the beautiful beach barbecuing on the boats and making all kinds of noise.!!!!I would not go back to this hotel.

| This hotel has something (or nothing) for everyone. If you are looking for golf, casinos, a spa and activities, they are all there, but if you are looking for a place to veg out on a beach or by the pool, this is the place also. We stayed in the lower section of the hotel and found it much more low-key than the upper section. The only drawback was the "funicular" (a cable car) that brought you up the hill. At times it was very crowded and you had to wait, but that was not a big problem.

| My wife, 5 month old and myself spent a long weekend here. We had a very nice/comfortable time. Lots of families/kids. Room was nice and food was average. The hotel is set up on a hill overlooking a rocky/beach-less coast. You have to take a water taxi (free) to visit Palomino Island for beach access. The island is nice, although an average beach for the Carib. The trek to the Island is a pain in the butt. Pools are nice and convenient. Drinks are good quality and generous. Overall, food and drinks expensive. We had a nice time, but I would be up for trying a different place next time.

| The ocean view is amazing. The staff is courteous and helpful. The private island, which is 20 minutes away by boat, is spectacular. Off-season exploration of the resort is enjoyable. However, when there are crowds, the funicular system creates bottlenecking between the multiple tiers of the resort. The bedding was shabby but clean. The resort is very family friendly...certainly NOT an ideal escape for couples.

We did however have access to the La Casita's free breakfast and their pools, which are smaller and more private. Service was good everywhere, particularly the golf course. They had kid's tee's, which we really enjoyed. We will probably go back, although don't plan to do much else other than doing things at resort as other than El Yunque rainforest, everything else is far away. Take the hotel transportation, although it's expensive, it's the cheapest option.

| we stayed at the El Conquistador for 4 nights around President's day weekend and it was wonderful. We were, admittedly, upgraded to Las Casitas (the 5-star diamond resort within the El Conquistador complex, where the Golden Door spa is located) because the hotel was completely full. So this probably helped to make the time even more special!Even so, the hotel was wonderful. The service impeccable, and the grounds/views beautiful. Yes, it was a little bit of a hike to make it to the beach every day (especially from where we were staying within the resort) but totally worth it. And there are so many swimming pools that you have plenty of options if you don't go to the beach. As many of the reviews have mentioned here, the restaurants ARE very expensive. And we were not terribly impressed with the Isabella steakhouse. Also, the wines are ridiculously overpriced (typically more than tripled). But then, we never left the resort. Lunch and cocktails I thought were fairly reasonable. There are many local eateries that are supposed to be very good, so next time we would hire a car. But we were only there for 4 days.Ultimately, this is the perfect place though. And if you can avoid eating at the hotel restaurants every night (I guess I have pretty high standards, since I live in NY and my boyfriend is French)you will have a wonderful time.I definitely plan on staying there again, but next time for longer!
