This place is a great place to stay if you are young and traveling on a budget. I have stayed here twice and both times were a pleasant stay - somewhat. On our first trip we stayed for 3 nights and although the hotel wasn't spectactular, we spent less than 7 hours there each day (incl sleeping). This trip we spent 6 nights, and I know now that at 26, I am too old to stay 6 nights at a place where I have to shower with flip flops. The only downside to this hotel is the bathrooms, but what do you expect from a shared bath hotel? This place is great for the low maintenance traveler, just don't forget your flops!

It's nothing fancy, but for the price I didn't expect it. Location was good. I liked having a sink in the room, but wished there was a garbage can. The elevator makes a good story! Overall, I was satisfied.

Reasonably priced for Manhattan, worth it to stay near the things you want to see. Compares to some of the more basic accommodations you get in parts of Europe, where proximity and the fundamentals are the main selling point, and hotels are not "American extravagant". Use the money you save to go to museums and nice places for dinner.

I read the reviews of this hotel before I took off. Most of them are true, you do get what you pay for. Since this was the first time I stayed in a hostel-like hotel, I didn't find it very cozy. However, for my friends who did, it was not bad at all. The bathrooms were clean and there's a sink in every room. Great location, there's a subway entrance right around the corner. If you are in NYC, you really dont needa sleep that much. Just get out and explore, Don't stay in this hotel too long.

This hotel is good for people who want a place to sleep and park their stuff. The beds were comfortable (firm mattresses). We were right next to the bathroom, but were never bothered by noise. The elevator did not work, so it was a hike up to the 6th floor. It was close (3 blocks) to the Metro subway.

If you are looking to take a price efficient trip to NYC, this hotel may be the place for you. There is no need to spend lots of time in a hotel while in the city. The city never sleeps so why should you. It is a comfortable bed, convenient location with an awesome staff. What more do you need?

If you are just looking for a cheap place to crash after sightseeing all day, this isn't a bad place. Elevator was broken, no A/C (luckilly NYC had a cool snap the week we were there), but clean room, clean bathrooms, and in an extremely nice neighborhood in the upper west side.

Booked 2 double beds on expedia and got to my room to find a double bed, the clerk at the front desk was incredibly nice and moved us to the only other room they had, which was a room with a bunk bed, no a/c, and worst of all no light. Not even a lamp or anything. It was the worst travel experience I have ever had! The bathrooms were disgusting, spend a few extra bucks and stay somewhere that is at very the very least air conditioned or heated!

This is a no frills hotel (hostel). There is no room service, shared bathrooms only, and no maid service, for the rooms. IT is a cheap place to stay, but is not for the person that wants a lot of comforts. The hotel is older, and the rooms are all painted bright blues, pinks and yellows.

I don't feel we got value for our considerable dollars at this place. On arrival we didn't get the types of room we'd booked and the clerk coudn't have been less interested. Lift only worked once the five days we were there. Beds uncomfortable, no hanging space, toilets blocked and water either boiling or freezing.Bathrooms WERE clean. Other front desk staff friendly and helpful but some of the domestic staff were surly and hostile eg over using laundry.TV reception was poor. We also didn't feel very safe here. No security measures in place and the door of our room had been kicked in before we arrived and staff were unaware of this (it was repaired promptly.

Finding the hotel was a complete disaster... the directions we're inaccurate... The check-in process was quick, but the room without a private bathroom made the hotel really uncomfortable. The "cable/satellite TV" was a tv set that hardly can be seen. If you want a quick stop, cheap, just to sleep, and do not care about things like the mentioned above, take it.

Upon our arrival we found the staff to be friendly enough. The room was fine...but the 2nd bathroom down the hall did have a few drips coming from the ceiling that you kind of had to dodge...the trick was keeping the toilet paper dry enough to be useful. The beds were kinda creaky and there was a steel pipe in our actual room that made rather obnoxious banging sounds at all times of day and night. If you are as tired as I was these things wont cost you any sleep....Hey, it was ok besides those things, like I say, it was dry and warm, a place to lay your head and a fairly convenient location.

The staff are incredibly rude...all of them. The manager is never around to address the concerns of customers, staff do not pass on messages. I was told at 5pm (NYC time) that I had a room with two single beds, but when we got there, they had given us a room with a double bed. They told us they were full and would move us the next day - a telephone conference between me, Expedia and the hotel later revealed that they had rooms available that night, before they hung up on us. The first night in the new room, the heating was not on and it was freezing. This was corrected the following night. The room had bunks and was tiny - we could barely fit our luggage in the room. It took ages for the hot water to come on and when we were talking to the front desk, they answered the phone in the middle of the conversation and ignored us. When we left, I asked for the copy of my credit card that they made. They refused, first telling me it was in case of vandalism (although how they could tell the difference is beyond me) and then for identification, even though they had a copy of my licence. The person at the front desk refused to give me his name and ignored me completely after that.

The corridor and room door condition could be worse than you can imagine.101st Street, is close enough to reach downtown for a new york traveller.

Scalded my scalp badly!!! radiator in room was broken and stuck on full, making it uncomfortably warm and dry, so had to sleep with window open, resulting in loud street traffic. location was amazing, though- if the building were refinished and modernised, it would be a great place to stay

If you don't mind sharing the shower/ bathroom (2 for 6-8 rooms per hallway), it's a reasonable, cheap solution. Old and a bit primitive, but my room had a fresh coat of paint and was clean and quiet. One drawback: a squishy mattress. Close to subway and bus. There are no guest services (no one makes your bed), but desk staff were polite and friendly.
