| This small hotel carries a cheap price and a low rating, deterring many first time travelers who think cash equals quality, but book and book early. I made the mistake of booking only two days for a one week vacation because I've stayed in my share of bad "good deals." I had to move to one of the higher rated hotels across the street from the beach after just a few days. To my surprise, I found Hacienda San Miguel's rooms large and clean with an ample supply of purified water, a working stove, and excellent service from a lovely staff. Their continental breakfast is all you need to start your short walk into town to visit the plaza or do your shopping. The money you save can be used to rent a motor scooter to travel around the island and get to those remote beaches and ruins. The hotel's garden and fountains give this hotel a unique charm. When the few days I was able to stay there were up (they were booked solid for the rest of the week), they called their competitors to find me a reasonable rate. I will definitely return to Hacienda San Miguel.
