This hotel was a good deal if you're not planning to spend much time in your room. The location makes a good home base for sight-seeing. Close to brown line train and several bus routes (22, 36, 151) that will take you to Mich. Ave or the loop. The room was small, bathroom could really use updating. Everything was old but clean. Bed was pretty uncomfortable. Roll-a-way bed would have been intolerable for an adult, but our 2-year-old didn't seem to mind.

This is an older hotel in a nice area that is somewhat convenient depending upon what you intend to do in Chicago. The room was basic. It did not have some of the things that travelers expect even in cheaper places such as no remote for tv, no shampoo in the room and no hair dryer. Breakfast was basic but adequate. If you want to save money and can get a decent rate stay here; if not don't.

You can't beat the price for a great Chicago location. The hotel is definitely a little rough around the edges - a few cracked tiles in the shower, some peeling paint etc. - but it was clean and pleasant, and the staff was helpful.

The hotel personnel were very nice. The location worked very well for us. But the bed was lumpy and the shower was pitiful. It was more like a drizzle vs. a shower. At one point, the shower went off completely when a shower was turned on in the next room. It took a while for the pressure to come back on.

Most of the past reviews about the cleanliness of the hotel were pretty much accurate (room is well worn and needs updates), but we felt the service was very good, the location is excellent, and it was overall a good value for the price. Don't stay here expecting a high-class place. But if you want something in a generally good area of town and just want a cheap place to crash at night, this as an acceptable hotel. the Elevated train station is about a 1/2 mile away. Lots of shops nearby. Taxi to downtown is about $15.

The location of this hotel is great but the rooms are far from fantastic! I will stay here again but only because it is easy to get everywhere from this location in the city. The staff was nice to deal with and the rooms aren't bad, just not very up to date.

I checked into the hotel and was put in a smoking room, which was smelly and had cigarette burn holes in the bedspread. I went back downstairs and asked to be moved to a non-smoking room, as I don't smoke. The hotel staff told me that they didn't have any non-smoking rooms available, and that I had requested a smoking room on my reservation. Clearly, I had not. The next day they moved me into a non-smoking room, which had no hot water in the sink or tub.

The biggest plus of this hotel was the staff. We had to checkout early due to an emergency. Expedia would not refund our cash, but when the hotel manager heard our reason for checking out, she called on our behalf and got the refund. This was wonderful. If you're looking for a hotel that is right in the heart of one of Chicago's more interesting neighborhoods, or are in town to see the Cubs, this is a good spot. Just don't expect a luxury hotel. My wife has allergies, and the room was tough for her to take. The walls are paper thin, and there is no AC in the rooms. They aren't filthy, but its not the cleanest place I've ever stayed. But, the hotel is easy to find, the service was great, and the location was wonderful. If you ask for a non-smoking room, make sure you get it. We didn't realize until it was too late that we had not been given one, and the hotel was too full to make a switch possible.

Typical of most Chicago hotel's, the room was quite small for what we paid. Walls were very thin, so we heard everyone's hall conversations as well as their comings and goings. Water pressure was very low, so it took half an hour to run a bath. Service and cleanliness was adequate, but not great.
