Jolly is half a block from the Flower Market, and within a block of a tram stop that serves the Central Station and many tourist attractions. We had a decent room with windows overlooking a rear street with many restaurants and bars. Yes, it was noisy late into Saturday evening, but closing the windows and turning on the A/C still left us with a fairly quiet room. Front desk personnel were knowledable and helpful. But like most Amsterdam hotels, not inexpensive.

Our stay was a big disappointment. The hotel plaque says it is rated 4 stars by the Netherlands- but it is 2 star quality by my standards. The location is perfect- walking distance to everything but it is on a noisy, busy street. Our room was the size of a postage stamp. With two people, we could barely get in the bathroom without stepping on each other. The decor is very dated. There is no concierge to help with reservations or directions. Other reviewers were more positive so perhaps we just got a bad room. It would have been okay had we not expected 4 star accomodations.

Hotel was great (clean and quiet). Near all types of transportation or easy walk to everything of interest. Many great restaurants in the neighborhood. Staff made everything easy!

This hotel is in the perfect location--walking distance to just about everywhere. And let's face it, when you visit a terrific city like Amsterdam, you want to be in the heart of it. Also, staff was very friendly and helpful, and the rooms were nice (and reasonably priced).

Very good location. Next to Flower Market (one attraction). Walking distance to train station, bus stop in front of hotel, 1 block from a main shopping street. Very happy with the hotel with the price we paid.

This is a fairly good hotel in great location. Walking distance to the Centraal Station, Rijksmuseum and VanGogh museum, Anne Frank House etc. The room was small but clean, the staff friendly in general. My request to replace a malfunctioning fixture was answered only after four days when I finally contacted the shift manager, but he was very nice and payed for my shuttle to the airport as compensation for my trouble.

It's an old building, and the air system only goes one way, so even though it was hot in my room, and warm in the city, the system was set for heat, and not air conditioning, so the only solution was to open a window, which didn't help much. Staff spoke English, but night staff not very strong in English. Room was not too small, although the bathroom could use an update. Right next to the flower market, which is nice. High speed internet connection in the room took my credit card info, but then would not work beyond that.

We stayed at the Jolly for our anniversary the first week in October 2005. The location is the absolute best. It's central to everything and within a 15-30 minute walking distance of the museums, red light, shopping and all other major attractions. We had a "deluxe" room on the 3rd floor corner overlooking the flower market and canal. The room was very roomy w/ large windows and very bright. It had a huge bathroom w/ a jacuzzi tub. There were three problems w/ our room that travelers should be aware of in advance: 1) The TV channel selection is very limited for English choices, basically just news, 2) The shower is extremely small and difficult to get in and out of - I banged my knee at the end of my first shower and learned the hard way and 3) The hotel provided hair dryer has the strength of someone breathing heavy on you, so I walked around w/ wet hair all week. Other than that, I would highly recommend the hotel to anyone that wants to be in a great location and not spend a fortune on their room. The front desk staff was very helpful and made all of our restaurant reservations for us. One other point is that if you are in the front of the hotel as we were, it is quite noisy. Not so much an issue in fall and winter, but if you want to keep your windows open all the time in the warm weather, beware.

Stayed for 4 nights in a superior room. Our room was great. We had a little kitchen area with a mini fridge and a stove, the chocolates were a nice touch and the bed was decent. We had room 151 directly over the street on the 2nd floor yet it was quiet. We were only 1 block from Rembrant square and the hotel was on Munt Plein. Location was key here. I thought this was a very safe area of Amsterdam with only a 5-10 minute bike ride to all the major attractions.

I got a good deal on Expedia, but would not have booked their rack rates, which are enormous. The hotel is located just of the Regulierdwarstraat, Amsterdam's gayest street, which is one reason why I chose it. I have no complaints. My rate did not include breakfast, which was a standard European buffet, overpriced at 12 euro. There is an internet cafe around the corner for 2 euro an hour. The hotel charges an outrageous price. All told not a bad place though.

This hotel is typical for a Jolly, nicely equipped, clean well maintained room. The kitchenette was nice, as there were plenty of small store nearby to stock up in. Avoid the mini-bar, there pricer then most. Great Sushi place nearby, (go figure), lots of pubs, in crawling distance if thats what you want. Staff was very helpful, keep in mind the view can be of a canal to a rather drab street, so ask if you have a view-they may be able to help. Breakfast was decent, but the earlier the better, it diminishes rapidily after 09:00.

The room was old and did not gave a fresh, clean impression... The staff was not very helpfull or friendly either. Due to the ongoing construction on the street, it took us a long time to find the place by car (parking is difficult and expensive). Not the best place to stay.

Don't look at the pictures expecting the same when you check in. Apprently there are very few rooms that are similar to the pictures and they are not the ones you get on Expedia. Very touristy hotel and room could have been cleaner considering the star rating.
