| Was very impressed with the hotel. Very clean, comfortable room. Only complaint was Internet access was a little difficult to keep once online. Bus stop and other local attractions nearby was ideal. We would definately stay here in the future.

| Anyone staying in downtown Phoenix should consider staying at the San Carlos. It is close to everything that downtown has to offer. Pedicabs are available if the walk is too far. The hotel is an historic hotel so don't expect chain hotel ammenities. The rooms are clean and comfortable but still maintain that historic charm such as older plumbing and fixtures. This hotel is a great find for the price!

| The Hotel San Carlos bills itself as a boutique hotel, but it's a little short on style. The Neutrogena toiletries are nice, and the hotel is quaint, but the bedcoverings are corporate, and the lobby is profoundly depressing.

| I loved the "old world" atmosphere of this hotel! It was definately a refreshing change from the chain hotels most of us are used to. The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating and the rooms were very clean. The continental breakfast was OK, but check out he Silver Spoon Cafe off the lobby. They offer a hot breakfast there that is very good and reasonably priced.

| If you're someone who likes the charm of a place as well as a tie to local history then San Carlos fits the bill. Check out the old photographs in the lounge and bar area to give you a flavor of Phoenix in the thirties. The rooms are small and the amenities are out-dated, but if you're ok with that and don't need all the frills then you should be satisfied.

| I travel a lot for work and have stayed at all different types of hotels - from the best to the worst. Hotel San Carlos definitely beat some of the five star hotels I've stayed at. Yes, it is kind-of small, but its extremely friend staff and overall appeal make up for it. The lobby was beautiful and the entire hotel was filled with great historical details. It has this great family vibe to it, but at the same time very elegant and cozy. I went with my sister for a "girls weekend" and it was great, but would definitely go back with my family, for a family-fun weekend and even with a boyfriend for a romantic evening. Another thing to be noted was that when we asked the hotel to call us a cab, we got their Lincoln Towncar - for the same price as the taxi!!! I LOVED IT!!!

| If small rooms and 1940's plumbing interest you thne this hotel is for you. when I saw the review of this hotel i booked a room thinking that it may be an older Hotel that had some charm. I was not so lucky, it is just and old, small hotel. Specific Issues: 1) very small and cramed rooms. They put two double beds into a small space where if only one queen was provided there would be more room, and a larger bed. (Note I was in one of the larger "outside" rooms) 2) 1940's styly plumbing. The shower head was an add-on to a bathtub, and only mounted @ 5' up. Not very easy for a 6' tall person 3) Not for the buisness traveler - wireless internet that was advertised does not work. I could not even get a strong enough signal in the hotel loby. When i asked where the best place to pick up the signal was i was told to stand near a door. The outlets in the room are limited and are typically two-prong outlets.

| I originally picked this hotel because it seemed a little more interesting than the standard chains and had pretty good reviews. I was so disappointed. The hotel is badly in need of a face-lift. My room was tiny! The bathroom was so small, I could barely turn around and the shower head was lower than my head and I am not super tall. The worst part though, is that the rooms have vents opening into the hallway and into neighboring rooms so I could hear everything going on in the room next door as if they were in my room. It was horrible and I would not go back!

| We came to Phoenix to watch some Cubs spring training games. That was the first bad move--get a hotel in Mesa if you want to watch the Cubs! Taxi's are ridiculously expensive! Take the bus, its way cheaper! Back to the hotel, it was real fancy-smancy but didn't have very many TV channels, old cramped-up bathrooms, and thin walls. The continental breakfast was outstanding but If you want to eat or drink anything else, be prepared to empty your wallet. The pool on the 3rd deck was awesome! It was a gorgeous setting because of all the plants up there plus its right under the breath-takingly beautiful buildings of downtown Phoenix. There is nothing to do in Phoenix unless you are an alcoholic (bars). If you are looking for fun, go to a baseball game or go to Tempe, because those are the hot spots.

| The rooms are small and the insulation non-existant to stop the noise from the hallway or next room from coming in loud and clear. But if you are into history and something different it may be a good place. The ghost tour on Saturday nights is a hoot and interesting. Make your stay one to two days max and it's probaly ok. Any longer and I would say no.

| The San Carlos has an extremely friendly staff from the moment you pull up to the curb. They are more than willing to assist you with your bags and to help with parking or any other needs. The front desk is staffed at any hour of the night to check in. They were very welcoming. The rooms are quaint but clean. Plenty of room for two people. This is definately a place for people who enjoy staying in a privately owned European-like hotel not an American chain, "all look the same" motel. Unfortunately, we stayed there during the November Nascar race in Phoenix and the place was filled with rowdy fans. So it was a bit loud but the staff apologized for that in the morning and said it was quiet unusual for them to have them there.

| I found the hotel to be an an average hotel. The rooms were comfortable but not overly so. The location was very good. The cable was limited for television choices. The hotel is the midst of renovation and may look better soon. I will probably try a different hotel next time.

| While this hotel could certainly use a remodel, the historical value is worth a one night stay. However, the small, akward rooms with paper thin walls would not afford long term comfort.
