The hotel room is actually a suite; it had a kitchen, sitting room and a bedroom. It was near the center of town and there was shopping, restaurants and bars in the immediate area. It's a definite recommend.

We stayed in August 2005. Luckilly, the room was in the 'newer' side of the hotel. The suite was clean, and spacious. Our suite did not have a balcony. The staff was very courteous - actually had to come to our room at 2 am to fix a 'beeping' fire alarm, and a faucet that wasn't working. The maintenance man was there minutes after the call. We were very impressed. One downside - was the parking. We arrived after 8PM, and the hotel lot was filled. We had to park on the street, and move the car by 8AM, or start feeding the meter. The hotel lot did not have an opening until after noon. Also, the sauna room and hot tub were on the old side of the building , and the elevator seemed quite old and 'creaky'. One time on it was plenty for us. Ask specifically for the newer side of the hotel, and you will most likely be accommodated.

Stayed here in July 2005. Quiet hotel, helpful, friendly staff. Attractive room and bath, attentive housekeeping staff. Balcony was pleasant for reading. Air conditioning was excellent and situated so that it did not blow on you, but did cool the room very comfortably. The bed was overly firm leaving us with some back kinks but this wouln't stop our returning. Easy walk to Rideau Canal at end of street as well as fine place to walk to many restaurants, Rideau Center, Art Museum, and many other interests. Parking was easy - $11/day Cdn. In hotel restaurant had excellent breakfasts - less $s than most and great server. Dinner was very good, attentive server.

First of all, location, location, location. This hotel is at a very good location. Good restraurant, deli, bar nearby. And walking distance to those museums. The bathroom and kitchen is clean and nice. Like them. The living room is good but the TV is very small. The bedroom is the smallest one of those hotels I used to have. The front desk people are very nice. But the carpet is kind of old. And the elevator is so small that it can only take at most 5 people without any luggage. The parking is sort of expensive. You can find some $6/night parking lot around. Overall, it's a very nice place to stay consider the price offered by expedia.

I booked this hotel as part of a package "flight + hotel" deal through expedia.com. It was a great choice - location, cleanliness, ammenities - and best of all, a great price. This hotel would be my choice for future visits to Ottawa.

Downside: somewhat worn furniture, carpet with burnt spots from cigarettes, pretty intricate way of getting the water to be warm (as opposed to either cold or hot). However, neither furniture, nor carpet is in "bad" condition. Upside: Literally, minutes away from Downtown Ottawa, minutes away from extremely pleasant Rideau canal. Great location overall! Another upside is a suite, with full kitchen and again relative proximity to a grocery store(on Elgin st). Free wireless internet. I'd definitely recommend this hotel if you plan to spend more time outside than inside or if you're on a tighter budget.

The Aristocrat has two wings, a new one with balconies and an older one which probably dates to the 60's. My one bedroom suite was, not surprisingly given the rate, in the older section. However it was clean, comforatable, fully equipped and walking distance to the National Gallery, Museum of Civilization, Parliament, National Arts Centre. I highly reccopmmend it.

The best part of staying at this hotel is its location. Close to some good restaurants and within 15 min walk of the rideau center. The worst and surprising part was the condition of the carpets in the hallways and in the room...everything looks nice in the lobby - don't be fooled...reality awaits you when you get off the elevator!!!..the carpets especially in the room stink!!! - even in the non-smoking room that we booked. Service was good - people at the front desk were nice and helpful. The only plus for staying at this hotel beside the location was that we got a great price from expedia as compared to the actual rates the hotel advertised.

Full kitchenette, separate bedroom and living room, close to everything! And reasonably priced! Why stay in a one-room hotel room when you can have a comfortable suite for the same price?

Although the location is fine and the front desk staff were pleasant, the hotel itself is tired and run-down. The hallways were dingy, with the room doors desperately needing painting. The carpet in the room was thin and dirty, the paint on the walls was chipped and scratched, and the whole place simply looked and felt seedy. The bathroom appeared to have been recently remodeled and was fine. The bedroom, however, was small and had no TV. The TV was only in the living room. The bed was uncomfortable, too. This will have been my one and only visit to the Aristocrat.

The staff makes this a really great place to stay. Provided for you in the room are dishes(which cleaning staff clean for you daily), microwave, full size refrigerator/freezer, oven, cabinets for food storage. Nicely laid out rooms. Most of the attractions are walking distance. also within walking distance are stores, many different restaurants, and a mall. Wasn't too thrilled with first come first serve parking that i had to pay for, but always had a place to park. My only real complaint was the hardness of the bed, but the staff told me it is possible to call ahead and request a softer mattress(ours was like sleeping on a board). I would definitely stay there again if could get softer mattress

We really enjoyed our stay at the Aristocrat. It was in a nice neighborhood with a grocery store a block away, and a pharmacy and restaurants within easy walking distance. What was really nice was the good size kitchen and the fact that the room was a suite. The price was quite reasonable too. Both my family and the other family we were vacationing with would go back again.
