This hotel is perfect budget hotel for a trip to nyc where you won't be wasting time hanging in your hotel room. Location is perfect. Subway is less than 2 blocks. Walk to U.N. or Rockefeller Plaza. Rooms are small, but not cramped and very clean. Shared baths were not a problem. Hotel kept street noise out well. Rooftop garden is a nice touch. Only complaint is that doors are not insulated well-you can hear other room doors slamming. A pair of earplugs worked for me. Beds are firm so you won't get a backache from it being too squishy. Service was friendly. We will definitely stay here in the future.

I suggest this hotel to students such as myself, or other travelers looking for cheap accomadations. The rooms are small but everthing that is needed is provided. It is quaint and quite. Perfect for traveling alone. It is also a great location! However the downside to this hotel is the unfriendly staff. I even encountered uterly rude employees. Do not expect hospitality or helpfulness from those working at the front desk.

the room is very small, but I think is the same around the rooms in manhattan. I requested a private bathroom, but sometimes I need to used the shared bathroom, and both bathrooms were always clean during my stay. The location is great because sometimes I had to go back to the hotel pass midnight and the place is very safe, especially when the hotel is located one block from the police station. Very close to the subway. the photos display for this hotel is exactly what you get if you book this hotel.

I stayed in a new "pod" room at the Pickwick Arms while apartment hunting in NYC. The room was spotless and comfortable, and the free wireless internet access was a great advantage. The shared bathrooms were also very clean and I never had to wait to find one empty. I don't think you can find a better deal in midtown Manhattan.

This hotel is well located in Manhattan. The rooms are smallish but certainly sufficient for those who want to make the most of their time in New York to explore the city. It is newly decorated and very modern with plasma TV, room safe and shared bathrooms with great showers. I would definitely consider this hotel as a good bargain for Manhattan. I know I will being going back there next time I am in New York.

I was a bit skeptical to book when I heard there were shared bathrooms, although we ended up booking a room with private bathroom. I think it would have been just fine had we booked the shared bathrooms. It never seemed like there was a wait. The hotel was very comfortable, and we always came home to a clean room, even if we wanted to sleep in. Not entirely pricey, and a great location to hit the subway!

I wasn't sure what to expect but upon arriving I was pleasantly surprised. Although the hotel is currently undergoing renovations on various floors. I thought for the economical pricing it was a great value. My son and I were in NY to attend a concert so we shared one of the rooms with the bunkbeds. It was clean, had nice decor and my son loved the idea of having a tv at each individual bed. He was shocked to find out we had to use a common bathroom in the hall, however the room did come equipped with a small sink. Using the common bathroom was not as terrible as we thought it would be the housekeeping staff did a pretty good job of keeping it clean and there was always one available ( there were 4 on my floor ). The room was rather small but I feel it served its purpose it gave us somewhere too sleep. I would not recommend this room for more than 2 people.

Great safe, relatively quiet location near major subway routes. There's a nice garden on the roof and a beautiful little park literally across the street. Sharing a bathroom was surprisingly easy (there are four per floor). The place is well-decorated and clean. I will go here again if I go to NY on the same budget again. For the price, Pickwick Arms is absolutely worth it.

The Pickwick Arms is in a wonderful location and extremely clean. All rooms have been updated and renovated. Rooms are small and cozy (similar to ship cabin). All rooms have a safe. Hair dryers, irons and ironing boards are available upon request. A wonderful urban Park sits across the street from hotel. Hotel also sits on the number 6-subway line (one block from station). In addition, it is very close to Grand Central Station. The Pickwick is located in very safe location of Sutton Place. A Police substation is located one block from hotel. The staff is friendly and always willing to accommodate requests. Restaurants, cleaners and grocery stores are within one block of Hotel. I will definitely return!

Ok so here is the deal....the room I stayed in was so small that it was almost funny....actually it was funny. but chances are that if your in new york your not there to hang out in you hotel room. so if you in town for a few nights and dont mind the shared bathrooms this is the place for you. The room like i said was really small but it was really clean. The bathrooms which was what i was the most worried about were suprisingly clean. I do recommend however that you bring your own towels just becuase housekeeping seemed not to replace the used ones they took from the room. the staff was pretty friendly (for new yorkers:)) and they were really helpfull with directions to shopping areas and nearby resteraunts (there are tons of nearby resteraunts to pick from). overall my experience here was a good one and i do plan on staying here again when i am in town.

Pickwick Arms Hotel overexceeded my expectations given the low-budget cost for a one night's stay. Even though my trip was for business, I would no doubt come back here to stay for leisure. The room I was in was a standard/shared bath (reminded me of a college dorm room, though a bit smaller). I try to travel light in the first place so the room's compact space was not a problem for me. The room is definitely designed for one person, making the bed just comfortable for one person as well. One of the hotel cleaning ladies was very helpful in familiarizing myself with the room such as knowing how to adjust the thermostat and revealing where the bed sheets were (it looked like the mattress was bare when I walked in, yet sheets were underneath), all while she still had other rooms to finish cleaning. Of course, I had to ask, but she did it with no hesistation. The location was ideal, not too rowdy (pleasantly quiet, in my opinion) for being located in Midtown (as a friend from NYC commented to me about this). I did not have time to try out the French restaurants on both sides of the hotel, though I definitely want to the next time I stay here.

My 13 yr old son and I stayed just one night in the city, so opted for one of the smaller rooms, aptly referrred to as a 'Pod'. I felt the design was great, minimalist, with no wasted space, and quite sci-fi like. We had wireless internet, an i-home for his i-pod, little TVs that folded out from the wall at at both bunks. Unfortunatley one of them was not working properly at the time and I only discovered that late at night, maintainence had already left for the day. While booking I was a little concerned with the shared bathrooms, but they were fine, clean and minimalist. The rooms had a lighting system to let you know which ones were in use, but I don't think it worked, but there was never a wait for the bathroom, always at least one available. There was some renovation work going on in the lobby during my stay, so things were a little jumbled, but the staff were very helpful, and informative. The subway was one block away and there were pharmacies and small cafes in walking distance. I would recommend The Pickwick Arms to anyone going for a short stay in NYC.

It's 2 minutes away from the subway, 15 minutes walk from times square, and is close to all the tourist attractions in Manhaten. I recently spent two weeks in NY auditioning for a Broadway show. Since it was a spur of the moment trip I ended up staying at five hotels during that period as places in my price range (inexpensive) were booked out. The Pickwick Arms was totally okay in every way. It certainly wasn't my favourite as far as room ambience was concerned but it was extremely clean and quiet (except they're renovating two entire floors so be careful not to stay on the floors near them). Lots of people stay there, there must be a few hundred rooms, it's close to the subway, and it's in midtown - but a little east so the area has a quiet(ish) feel to it. Good restaurants around this hotel. There's a great little oasis of a park opposite the hotel and up about a half a block that has a waterfall and a place to buy a coffee. Perfect to read and chill out. The rooms of the Pickwick are all remodelled and new (albeit fairly ugly). They're small - and I mean small - but really, how much room do you need in New York when you're out most of the time. I definitely recommend staying there although I know three hotels that are better. Too bad I can't recommend them in this review. Oh - and the Pickwick Arms has room safes, cable tv, and flat screen tv's in the room.

When I went in, I knew.A t first it was a shock, how were 2 persons supposed to live here for 4 days? But afterwards we got used. The only problem is suitcase space. There is barely space for a small one. Did love the flat screen TV as well as the security box. The free wireless had the signal very week in my room and it was to slow any time before 10 pm. If you have a love budget and dont mind to sleep in a cabin, the place is good.

I booked this hotel for my boss's last minute trip to New York. Being midwesterners, the cost of hotels in New York is practically obscene, so when I told her about this hotel she was grateful for the room at a reasonable cost, but apprehensive as well. When she returned from her trip, she raved about this hotel! According to her, the location just can't be beat. Not only is it close to Grand Central, but it's within blocks of several car rental agencies if you need one. The room was comfortable and clean, and it's small size motivated her to get out and make more appointments. She was very pleased with her stay, I looked good in front of the boss, and I now have standing orders that whenever she travels to New York that she be booked into the Pickwick Arms.

Also, lobby is being renovated this week (6/14-16) which may continue for a while. Really loud but does not start until 8:00 a.m. Nice enough place, but I can't believe it cost what it cost. While standard rooms are available, don't be afraid to go for the renovated rooms with shared baths--the hall baths are stainless and marble and kept very clean. My very picky fifty-something mother and I shared a bunk room and she loved it--said it reminded her of a train berth. Design and comfort are not compromised. In addition to being located near several major attractions (Central Park, Rock. Ctr, St. Patrick's), across the street is the delightful "Greenacre Park"--a private park built & maintained by the Rockefeller family and kept open for the public. It has ample comfy seating, beautiful landscaping with a waterfall, and a little coffee shop with a great, cheat, homemade breakfast. This was a lovely start to each morning. There is also excellent dining on the street, with two French bistros on the ground floor and Japanese down the street. We will definitely stay at the Pickwick again.

When I first arrived at this hotel i walked into a customer complaing about the lack of hot water and horrible service. Instead of the women trying to help him two women were arguing with him. I was ignored for 20 minutes before they even tried to check me in. Then while she was checking me in it took 30 minutes to do so because she kept answering and talking on the phone through out the process. She was extremely rude and irritated me. After checking in she took my credit card and charged me for no reason. The hotel room was very small and the bed was uncomfortable. The only benefit was the cleaniness of the room because the lobby was under construction. I would never stay there again.

Took a chance for the first time on booking a NYC hotel room with a shared bath. Pickwick Arms had a rate I could afford. Rooms have been recently renovated in modern IKEA-like style and are cute, smart, & stylish. Bathrooms are the same, marble and stainless steel, and sharing was never a problem - the worst thing I encountered was a shower-water-wet floor. Each room has its own small sink & mirror for simple washups etc. Single room is tiny, like a sleeping-pod almost, but doable. Double-bed room is perfect. Nice flat sceen TV and iPod dock-radio in room. Quiet street, close to 6 & E Metro lines, bistro nextdoor, bea
