Our family of 5 stayed at this hotel in early August 2005 for 5 nights. We booked two triple rooms, and were placed in the "new wing" of the hotel with beautiful new rooms (with a jacuzzi) surrounding a private and very quiet courtyard. We were completely isolated from the busy street outside, but were still within walking distance of the Termini, Coloseum and Forum. Breakfast on the roof overlooking Santa Maria Maggiore church was an experience to look forward to every morning. We loved this hotel!

Mecenate Palace is wonderful---clean, cool, and refreshing on a hot Roman day. Convenient to Termini train station, which some have said is a sketchy area at night. However, we experienced no issues with the neighborhood and were perfectly comfortable navigating it after dark with our daughter in tow. Breakfast on the rooftop terrace was extremely pleasant and the service was great all around. Mecenate was a good place from which to explore the rest of the city. Finally, the hotel is extremely well-suited to business travelers, providing modern conveniences and soundproofed rooms. Great all around.

We found this hotel to be an extremely nice place to visit, conveniently located, and central to everything. Even the tour bus stopped directly in the court by the church. We were treated quite well during our visit, and would definitely stay with them again. We hope that you enjoy your stay as much as we did ours!

This hotel was located very close to the train/metro station, which made it easy to get around Rome and other cities. The staff was extremely helpful with making reservations for local sites. Rooms and hotel were wonderful with great amenities. We had a great view of the church across the street and even saw the Pope who made an appearance at the church-- all from our room. Would recommend it to anyone!

Initially, I was concerned about staying here because several of the other reviewers mentioned their concerns about the safety of the area, but we had no issues whatsoever. The hotel staff was friendly and attentive. The breakfast buffet was well stocked and satisified everyone. The hotel was beautiful and well maintained. The veiws from the rooftop terrace were amazing. I would definitely put this on my list to come back to--both Rome and the hotel.

my husband and i really enjoyed our stay at the Golden Tulip Palace in Rome. We had been travelling all over Italy and this hotel was the first that seemed equivalent to the same priced hotel in the US in terms of comfort. not that i'm spoiled, but it was nice to see a bathtub for the first time, as well as have adequate heat, and even room service. i can easily be happy staying at a hotel without those extras, but would prefer to do so without paying what i am accustomed to when i get those amenities at a hotel, if that makes sense.

The hotel was great, and the price was definitely right. It was a pretty good hike to some of the main attactions, but walking was a great way to experience the city. I would highly recommend this hotel if walking is not an issue for you.

A classically decorated and maintained establishment. I could easily imagine Edith Wharton treading the corridors. Beautifully decorated in a manner to bring calm to the harried traveler. My wife and I were joined by three of our children and all of us enjoyed the nicely paced and provided breakfast as well as the Hotel's location opposite St. Maria Maggiore basilica. From our window we looked diretly upon the church's plaza. We loved the sound of the morning bells. This was an ideal location from which to walk to the Fora, the Capitoline Muesum, and the Collosseum. We very much enjoyed our stay and cheerfully recommend the Hotel to other visitors to Rome.

If this hotel were located further away from Termini station, it would have been a good deal. The neigborhood is dirty with restaurants that are tourist traps. If one still needs the convenience of being close to Termini, one should try hotels near the Via Veneto area.

Like many others, we chose this Hotel based on customer reviews and the proximity to the Santa Maria Marjore Basilica where a cousin was to be ordained. The staff was very warm and friendly and very helpful. I am handicapped, have trouble walking, and the hotel provided us with a wheelchair (minimal cost/day) and even brought out a ramp which stayed there for our entire trip - so I had my own little entrance. The virtual tour of the room was very accurate and the room and bath were always very clean and well taken care of. Our view (5th floor facing the basilica) gave us a beautiful view of the city as well as allowing us to enjoy the everyday life of Rome. It was close to walk to several attractions and one block away from the Metro and two blocks away from the train station. There were ATM machines handy, nice stores, and a wonderful bakery close by as well as little cafes with great atmosphere and food. The breakfast terrace on the top of the building was beautiful and they served a very nice buffet breakfast. The servers were very attentive and the food was always fresh and tasty. In the lounge, there were free appetizers after 6 and a bar that served a variety of food and drinks. We could think of no drawbacks to the Mercante Palace other than don't ask for directions to the Golden Tulip because no one knew the hotel by that name. Thank you so much to everyone at the Mercante Palace! We will definitely visit again sometime!

Generally pleased with hotel. Well maintained, staff professional, clean, good soundproofing. Breakfast on par with other similar hotels in Rome. Small tv with limited English chanels. Area around hotel is in transition with lots of recent immigrants and a fair number of homeless people, although did not feel unsafe. Need to use common sense at night. Also, not really too close to areas of interest to tourists. Knowledge of Rome's public transport is most helpful if staying at this hotel

Excellent Hotel. Very clean with friendly stuff that cares about its guest. Ask for a room with the Jacuzzi. Breakfast at the terrace, silver cutlery, nice view. Located opposite to Maria Maggiore Church, close to Termini (walking distance) and to the start point of the city tour bus (Does not make other stops except in Vatican city).
