I think the only thing that saved this hotel was the price for the location. When I checked it in it was about 7 pm and the bar was closed, that was my first downer thinking oh well it will open later. Then I go up to my room, which they must of had some damage cause the carpet in the halls were drity and smelly. I go into my room, by the way non-smoking and it reaked of smoke. The light bulbs in the bathroom were burned out and I walked on the floor after slipping off my shoes and my feet were black. Then to top it all off, every hour or so some strange not so savery looking fellow would knock on the door and tell me to let them it, of course I did not, but I felt very uncomfortable. I would stay here again if the price was right, but I was not at all thrilled with the hotel.

I tried this hotel due to it being closest to bourbon st, where my friend's wedding party was staying at. The hotel clerks were not very friendly at the front and I'm not sure she fully knew what she was doing. Parking was fine. The room was ok, but the lighting was horrible due to the placement and the vanity wasn't plugged in and I didn't see anywhere to plug it in at. The best part was the bed, which was a 10, if you like down tops which I do. Really I would rate the hotel a 2.5, it still needs some work.

I tried to give this hotel a break considering the hurricaine but there were a few things that couldn't be overlooked. First there was the banging on the door at 10:00 at night (after we had gone to sleep because we had to be at the airport at 6am) because the girl that checked me in (5 hours earlier) didn't get my name right and had to correct it. Then there was the lack of hot water in the shower the next morning. The whole place smelled like a wet dog. I will never stay at this hotel again.

I booked this hotel on the comments that where recently left by other visitors. The staff, especially check-in, should be more friendly to their guest. They did not smile not once in the four nights I spent their. I believe the staff needs to be trained better in manners of professionalism. The rooms were clean and the hotel was quiet at night. In all, it was a good bargain.

Often booking hotels online despite ratings is hit or miss. This hotel exceeded our expectations. Not only is it situated perfectly on the St. Charles Streetcar line, but it makes all points of interest in the downtown and French Quarter area easily accessible. The room was a good size and the staff was friendly. The windows in our room were up high, but at least we had windows. We would definitely stay there again!

Great location - a minute or two and your on Bourban street but far enough away to not be bothered by the crowds and noise at night. We hope to go back to New Orleans for a longer stay and we will definently stay at the Royal St. Charles!

While this hotel was fine, I would try another one before staying here again. The room wasn't ready for 30 minutes after check in time and I had to ask the desk clerk to get someone to check the room so we could have it. In all fairness the hotel was down to one elevator and the staff was allowing guests the use of it first. That delayed readiness checks of the rooms. Also the valet parking service took petty change out of my vehicle. The good--the hotel was quiet and very close to the French quarter, easy walking distance to the river also.

The Royal St. Charles hotel is clean, comfortable, safe, and an affordable BOUTIQUE HOTEL!! The rooms are comfortable and clean, yet small, but are characteristic of a boutique hotel. The decor is nice and we were very pleased with the quality of the hotel, rooms, and service & staff. We stayed there for a week and the staff & service we received were excellent. The staff gave excellent advice and opinions about entertainment & dining and was always pleasant. The parking is an extra expense, but we were prepared for this before our trip. This is an expense everywhere in N.O., not just at the RSC. You will not go wrong with this hotel: location, location, location! Safety should be a concern for all tourists in N.O., this is provided at the RSC. We cant wait to go back!

Three couples traveled together and stayed 6 nights at the Royal St. Charles. The bellmen talked to us each time we were in the lobby and one even went to a market on his day off and fixed us a "real" New Orleans meal with crawdads, turkey necks and sausage. The rooms are quite small and closet space is nil, but we would return (with less clothing), just because of the staff.

Carpet was wet and while management acknowledged the problem they did nothing to correct it. The first thing we asked the valet when we pulled up was where would he recommend for longterm parking. He claimed to not really know of any other options than the $26 a day valet parking. You can park right across the street at the Bank One building for $10.50 for 2 days on a weekend and $12 per day any other.

The Royal St. Charles Hotel in New Orleans is a very clean hotel with comfortable and affordable rooms. We were registered for a room with a double bed, as that was all that was available at the time I booked the room. Upon arrival, we were placed in a larger room with a king sized bed, and a large balcony overlooking Common Ave. The hotel is just across Canal Street in the beginning of the business district. It is only one block away from Bourbon Street, and just on the outer edge of the French Quarter. You can go have all the fun you want on Bourbon Street, and then take a short walk back to a much quieter, more relaxing location when you're ready to crash. The Royal St. Charles is also located right on the Street Car line. You can pay $3.00 / person for a round trip ticket to the end of the Garden District and back. My wife and I would stay here again, and recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit New Orleans.

The only member of the lobby staff who seemed at all friendly, and even courteous was the concierge. The girls at the front desk seemed more interested in continuing their gossip than helping their guests. The bartender was very obviously inexperienced and could use some help. We tried to flag him down for ten minutes to get new drinks-and we were the only people at the bar. We did enjoy the nightly entertainment & were pleased with our rooms.
