| The beach was beautiful. The pools were beautiful. Things are done in "Punta Cana" time which we did get used to. The hotel grounds were beautiful, lush and very well maintained. The resort is very large and spread out which can be inconvenient. The food is only OK, and making reservations at any of the many restaurants is really difficult, forcing you to eat at the buffet which is not very good. Stressing over not drinking the water and eating the "safe" food is tiring and enough to stop me from returning, in spite of how beautiful the place was. The hotel transfers were efficient, the gym & spa very nice, but no place to shop other than the beach flea market where the salespeople were all over you like flies and very annoying. About 1/3 of our large group got sick.

| The place is beautiful and rooms are very comfortable. Be sure to make your dinner reservations the day before for the following day - they are worth the effort. We loved the water activities. Again, you might need to make a reservation the day before for the following day, but you will soon see how it goes. We tried the windsurfing and it turned out to be very difficult. We took a lesson which was a tremendous help and no one reserved the windsurfers so that was great. People are all very friendly. The rum drinks were great. If you have to have your Bud or Bud Light - don't come here. The variety and quality of the drinks was wonderful. We would definately go back.

| I stayed at the hotel for 6 nights w/my wife and 3 boys (9yr, 7 yr and 22month old) The staff was friendly the service was to my satisfaction and the food was satisfying (Understanding that your staying at an All-Inclusive- anywher in the world the quality is limited!!) The 8 - 12 restaurants the Sol Melia boasts about are a problem because: 1. They dont want you eating there - they want you in the all inclusive buffet, so they make it hard for you to go to the Restaurants- You have to call up daily, prob at 7:30am to see if you can get reservations. The reasons its hard to get resv is because they only fill the restaurants to 60% capacity. SO dont go nuts trying to get resv, call up daily at 3:30pm and ask whats available from the restaurants for that same evening. However - the restaurants are all decently good. The grounds are impecable and there alot of families w/ kids so the kids will have fun. If your looking to party at night, pick up woman/men -This hotel is not the place nor is Punta Cana for that Matter - This is a great Family Hotel. The Royal Service is a ROYAL waste of money - DOnt do it. The only prob w/ out Royal Service is the Lenghty wait to check in. Arrive after 3pm and you wont have a problem - Arrive at 11:3am and you will wait 3 hours to get your room. I loved it, My kids Loved it and I have been to Punta Cana 5 times, Puerto PLata 6 times and the Capital (Santo Domingo) many times - This place , for the price, is FANTASTIC!

| Wow...well after reading all the reviews I'm puzzled how people could have a bad time here. Just returned home today and we're already in beach/pool withdrawl :) The food was good - it's not Outback mind you - but we were very pleased with the variety of food offered [Japanese and Mexican restaurants were absolutely terrific]. Neither of us got sick, probably because we didn't gorge ourselves and overdo it with drinks (we observed people doing both of these consistantly). Service was superb, we requested a room closer to the beach and within 1/2 hour were given a room within 50 feet of both. The pool and beach are even better than the pictures on the site and the included water sports were fun - we kayaked almost every day. Very pleased with Melia - we can't wait to go back.

| The service was NOT good. To eat at the restaurants, you had to make reservations which were almost impossible to get. 8 out of our 9 travelers got very ill. There's nothing to do besides staying right on the resort -- no town to visit, etc. We will not return to Punta Cana, or stay at another Melia resort.

| Stayed 7 days with a group of friends in Mid May 2006. Stayed in the Royal Service Side but spent most of the time with my friends in the other side so did not utilize the service to the maximum. Food was OK, the French Restaurant was very good, the Japanese was an "ok" version of the Benihana chain in the US, but gave the opportunity to meet with guests you did not know. Buffets were not appealing, food not presented well, but the deserts were excellent...ate at the Dinner Buffet once, did not go back. The other restaurants were ok. Breakfast buffets were very good, use the one at the Beach for the early morning view, but the others ar good too. Not all the restaurants are Air Condidtioned and there are not enough fans so it can get uncomfortable in those that aren,t. Only real complaint is that the lounge areas do not have enough fans to keep the air moving and can get pretty uncomfortable. One lounge area has no fans at all. Yes, I would go back.

| We highly recommend this hotel BUT if you go, ONLY go if you are staying in the Royal Service Suites. You have your own pool, own bar, own resteraunt, free internet, free concierge, and own section of comfortable beach chairs. All restaraunts were great EXCEPT Italian...trust us, skip this...at the Dominican Resteraunt, ask for a plate of the pork from the roasting pig...best pork we have ever had. If you go to the Japanese Steakhouse, go with at least one other couple you know- if not, you could get stuck with 3 other couples that are duds...but the food is great. Best tip...bring about a $100 in $1 bills and another $100 in $5 bills- tip everyone all the time a dollar here, $5 at dinner, A buck for your drinks...and the service makes you feel awesome! if going royal service, ask your butler to "get a bath" ready...it is SO worth the experience! We highly recommend it for a relaxing, enjoyable time.

| Great place to stay in Punta Cana. Staff was very friendly, and the level of service exceeded our expectations. Checked in quickly but room was not what we wanted (had double beds) was quickly upgraded to a room with a king and jacuzzi and a much better location closer to the pool. Lush landscape was wicked nice felt like I was in Hawaii. Very romantic place, especially at night. Room was clean but could have done a better job with maintaiing the overall cleanliness. Had a leak in bathroom ceiling from above. Very comfortable bed. Had to get up before 7:00 a. m. to claim a palapa on the beach. They give yoy a card for towels if you don't return it it costs you five bucks. One day someone took our towels. Make restaurant reservation right at 7:00 a. m. for the next day or you'll have trouble. If you can't get one they tell you yo call back around three, sometimes that worked but if it didn't we complained to the front desk and they hooked us up. That was my only real complaint the reservation system does not seem to be very fair. Pagado and Japanese restaraunt was very good. Also enjoyed the Capri and Ma Maison. Drinks were good not much to choose from but I thought the wine was of loww quality. All in all a great place would go back there again and we just might do that next year.

| My wife and I have just returned from an outstanding week at Melia Caribe Tropical's Royal Service. This was our first stay at an all-inclusive resort and we were pleasantly surprised. By comparison, I would put this Melia at 4-4.5 stars (RS area would fall into 5 star for the D.R.). The Royal Service area was right on par with most other hotel chains which offer a VIP service. The RS lounge was very nice and the staff was very helpful. Our room exceeded expectations (RS Deluxe Jacuzzi Suite) and the hotel grounds were spectacular. The jacuzzi tub was nice and even nicer when we had the butler service come prepare the bath. The RS pool area was very nice as was the Gabi club restaurant and bar area. The RS beach area is roped off from the general population and the beach butler was constantly making rounds to refresh your drinks. The beach was great and the water was fantastic. I can honestly say that we did not encounter one unfriendly staff member during our whole trip. Dominican people work on "Caribbean" time, which can be slow. However, our dinners were served quickly and glasses were constantly topped off. The RS area is definitely more relaxing, more upscale, less crowded, and a lot quieter than the rest of the resort. I was not expecting outstanding food, but it was really quite good and the chefs put a lot of effort into the dishes and their presentation. The resort is huge, so if you don't like to walk or wait for transportation then select another resort.

| This hotel is huge, they have very attentive personnel, the food at buffets are excellant. The pool areas, the beach...are awesome, extremly clean and neat, they truly are an all inclusive, but please don't forget take lots of singles, becasue you can't help but tip while you are out trhere, they are very attentive, and you always want to show your appreciation. The chows are great too, they have great shows at night. The childcare area is great. They are great with the kids, and really do plan out activities with them, they have a great time with the instructors/caregivers. Children will not have one boring day at the Melia, even if rains, there are still activities. If you want to go out on an excursion/daytrip, the lobbies have tour desks, at reasonable prices, you need to check it out.

Private club bad service, bad food, long waits for food, no problem getting a table. Other restuarants service good, food bad. We had a peice of meat from private clubs pool grill and it had a neck bone in it! No one can tell time or knows anything. They get you somewhere and you wait and wait. They often make mistakes and smile. Baech beautiful!! No complaints there! Turey Grill was nice setting and wonderful breeezes with beautiful views.

| We went the week before Xmas. The weather was gorgeous at 85 the entire 8 days except one 20 minute bout of rain. The Royal Service Deluxe suite is what we booked. Having had a peek at the Master Deluxe suite(850 sq ft), we should have done that since the space was much larger for just a little more than what we were already payingI would say approx 650 sq ft. excluding the balcony. Our suite was just fine for us at 2 toddlers and ourselves. For ourselves, I would not do it any other way. Though we did also visit the other pools and buffets, especially for lunch and they were fine too. The food was fine. Not New York gourmet but good for a Carribean island and this after having been to 5 other islands. The timeliness of your service depends on your tipping. This is a natural part of NYC living so was not a big deal to us. It is a large complex and the train although cute needs to run on a cleaner fuel than diesel. We walked everywhere since the grounds were so nice and we like walking since we are used to it in NYC. We will go back with friends.

| This was our first excursion out of the USA. The language barrier can be a little challenging. The Expedia representative did all she could do to help us out. The food was very good. The buffets were well assorted and featured some freshly made dishes and specialty dishes. The specialty restaurants were very nice. Make sure you call early the day before to secure a reservation. Sometimes a same-day reservation can be made if there is something available. The beaches were well taken care of. The pools were excellent. There is even a bar right at water level. Maid service comes in every day and freshens up the room. The gym is a little lacking. The spa services were excellent, except for the hair waxing. Don't get anything waxed here. Get to know the complex the first day. Look at the little map and get oriented. It is actually faster to walk than to take the 'train'. Plus the scenery/landscaping is worth the look. The hotel lobbies have all of the extra information you need. Make sure you specify that you want rum in your drinks! Don't eat any salad. It will make your stomach upset. The rest of the food is A-Ok.

Royal Service has beautiful suites with jacuzzi tubs and private bedroom, a private pool for all Royal Service guests (fantastic, with "palapas" all around the pool - these are bed-like lounge areas)and a private restaurant (the food is so-so but the rest of the place makes up for it). The beach in Punta Cana is outstanding, one of the best I've seen. The paddleboats are included in your rate, so take one out into the ocean - its worth it.

Had to call the day before at 7am to get in the next night. All the VIPs get to make all reservations when they arrive, everyone else has to hope for the best. The Japanese restaurant was the best. The beach was nice, the ocean was full of seaweed and water was cloudy the whole week , maybe d/t the bad hurricane season. The vacation club staff seriously harrassed us for the first 3 days to join their time share for a mere 15-20,000 dollars. The weather was beautiful. Met people from many countries , never seen such a diverse population of tourists. Loved that the most.

Great place if you want to go on vacation to diet. reservations for a la carte restaurants were very difficult and frustrating to get. and when we did go they were ok but there were so many vacant tables - yet they told you they were booked. sometime we tipped a few dollars just to get in. i think that the reasoning behind the difficulty. entertainmen was not very good either. we did have a good time but it could have been terrific if the food was better. also they could probably use an orientation at the beginning of your stay to let you know what is happening at the resort. it is very large and there are two sides Tropical and Caribe. we were not aware of that until we were there and had to find out things for ourselves, language was also a problem - workers did not really understand us a lot of the time.
