Large elegantly furnished and clean room in a good location at a very reasonable price. Limited hotel services (small lobby, no fitness center in the hotel, restaurant bar with limited food, no room service)

I chose the hotel for the price and location, but was pleasantly surprised that it was actually a pretty nice place. The room is comfortable, clean and spacious. It was better than I expected because past reviews were not too favorable towards Roger Smith. (It is recently going through renovations, so might have improved since last reviews). The only thing I wasn't too happy about was that housekeeping would walk in w/out knocking! Twice. Aside from that, it was a convenient, affordable (for the area), and decent place to stay at in the city. Enjoy!

There is a new nightclub on Lexington Avenue right below the hotel. The windows would have to be 6 times as thick as they are to keep the noise out. I needed a good night sleep and was not able to get one. I have stayed in the hotel before and had a great experience so this was disappointing. The perks (free local calls, free wireless internet access and free continental breakfast in the morning) did not outweigh the fact that I left the hotel more tired than when I arrived.

The hotel room smelled as though it has been doused in bad perfume and the bathroom smelled like urine. The shower temperature could not be controlled if any other guests were also using water and you can hear every noise on the street.

The hotel is old but nice and clean, except for the shower that was stinky, but other than that it's a comfortable place to stay.

Excellent and quaint city B&B- excellent free breakfast, cool and comfortable room, convienent location and very nice terrace overlooking parts of the city- also, there is free internet access in the lobby and you can make free local calls from your room- Room size was perfect but could of used a coffee table or something to eat on (we just pulled up two chairs which worked fine, but...)furniture was B&B style and very comfortable- downsides: our shower had extremly low pressure and the hot/cold wasnt all that stable- however we talked to people in lower floors (we were on the 15th) and they said their shower was fine- You get a lot for moderate prices and we would stay there again-

I booked a room at The Roger Smith Hotel for my stay in New York during the Big East Conference (2005). As I made my reservations on the late side, the availability of hotels was somewhat limited. When I arrived at the hotel I was pleased with its location and cleanliness, although my room did seem to have a somewhat "perfumey" smell. I later realized that I had been given a smoking room, despite the fact that my reservation was for a non-smoking room. However, the room was well maintained and the only place that I really smelled the smoke was in the pillows on the bed. The room was nicely decorated, well maintained and reasonably spacious. There was no individual heating control in the room, so it got pretty warm in the room. Personally, I'd prefer being warm over being cold, but I know that's not everyone's opinion. The other drawback was the street noise. On Thursday and Friday mornings, I was woken up at 6:30 AM by honking horns on the street. I did not have that same problem on Saturday or Sunday mornings as it was much quiter. I also did not have trouble getting to sleep at night while I was there even with the street noise. The continental breakfast is nice, but somewhat limited - by Saturday morning, we decided to go out for breakfast. Overall, it was a nice hotel, but next time I'll probably look for something closer to Times Square as I like that area a great deal.
