We asked for our room to be changed on the very first day and we were told that the Manager can help after tomorrow. We never heard back from them. We asked 3 times for room change until it was just 2 more days remaining for the stay, when it did not make any sense anymore. The rooms are really old and Kicthen had very very old cabinets (almost stinking of wood). carpets were dirty. Bathroom tub was 3 X 2 1/2 foot size. Very old construction. Beach next to the this property was very rocky and hazardous, could not use the beach as we imagined. Hotel was a big disappointment. My recommendation is to look for hotel in Kapalua or Kaanapali, not in honokowai. I would never recommend this hotel / condo to anyone.

Actually were a little surprised with the way they had advertised as a hotel with airconditioning as there was only one A.C in a three bedroom condo which was not enough also the fan in the room was so slow that we were sweating for quite a while when we came to the room from outside. The staff gave us a small table fan which was a little relief. Actually I dont care too much about the accomodation so didnt bother me but other friends didnt like it too much. But location wise and otherwise it was good.

Some of the towers are very close together and you don't get very much privacy, the other towers are further apart and more private. The rooms are nice. The staff were all very friendly. Nice pools, no restaurant or bar however, because all kitchens are fully stocked for eating in, which is great.

My husband & I had a 7 night stay at this hotel & we had a bad experience the first 2 nights. The 1st night our toilet flooded, which appeared to be fixed by the maintenance people, but that same night, we had an issue with one very large cockroach, which we ended up killing. We complained to the hotel front desk about the large cockroach & was advised that cockroaches are common & to call them the next time, so they can spray the room. The very next morning we encountered 3 more large cockroaches, so I called the hotel front desk & was told that the maintenance people don't start work until 8:30am. I was very upset because I knew the cockroaches were going to disappear by then. We ended up killing the cockroaches ourselves & the maintenance people never showed up. Since we were very unhappy with the large cockroaches & always worried if the toilet was going to flood again, we requested a different room, which the Supervisor had to take care of. The next room we got, we were very happy with and from that point on, we never saw any other cockroaches. Overall, we were okay with this hotel location, but believe the next time we will select a different hotel.

We were a party of five in a two bedroom, two bath unit. My mom took the smaller bedroom and our 3 1/2 year-old twins, my husband and I took the large bedroom with connecting bath. Friendly staff, beautiful grounds, clean room, great location. We liked having the grocery store, Java Jazz, pizza, snorkel gear, a bar and gift shops in walking distance. Only complaints were a darker curtain would have helped the kids nap, the slotted windows allow noise in and the fridge wasn't very cold. Minor complaints overall.

This hotel is an excellent bargain for anyone who is cost-minded but wants an excellent location in Maui. Our waterfront studio was about 50 yards from the ocean. The view from the patio is idyllic. Would recommend asking for ocean front for best rooms. Apartment was clean, compact, and well maintained. We made extensive use of kitchen, which was well equipped. Hotel staff is very friendly and the grounds are extremely well kept. Bottom line: it's a resort feel without the exorbitant price.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom condo on the bottom floor with a garden view. I felt for what we paid for, it was a good choice. The rooms were clean and the grounds were maintained. I feel in the future, the resort should definitely remodel the rooms for a more up to date look. But for the price, location and service, I would recommend it.

Stayed for a week for a wedding. We had a studio, but everyone else had either a one bedroom or two bedroom unit. I highly reccommend staying away from anything, but the studio. They have wall air conditioners and the bedrooms get hot in the one and two bedrooms. Most of the units have been remodeled or are getting remodeled. Grounds are in good shape overall. They are currently redoing their pool and putting green areas, but everything was in pretty good shape. Understand these are units owned by someone which are then rented out by ResortQuest. This means each unit is different based upon the owners. Some are better than others. Some owners give you more. This also means the property only cares so much for problems in the units. Overall I would stay there again if I was staying on this part of the island again.

This resort is owned by different owners. Some units are very nice. we like the one we have got. Beutiful room with moden decor. Kitchen loaded with everything that we need. They even had beach chair, boogie board and golf club( for the minicure golf that you can play in the court yard). The service was not so good. Front desk was OK, the room service always very slow. I don't know it was Hawaii style or just this place. Everyday we put a sign outside the door to request cleaning before we leave. When we come back from beach like 4'colock in the afternoon the room is still not cleaned. The first day we just ask for clean towels, we called four times, finally we got it.

Facility is old. Common areas are very well maintained. Equipment within units need updating. I loved the view of the ocean and the fish pond. The 2 bdrm & loft unit is enormous. My family of five easily fit with room to spare. The equipment within the units were old and needed replacement. AC in master bdrm didn't work. Knives were dull. Toaster only cooked one side of toast. Microwave didn't have enough pizzaz to pop popcorn. However, the interior was clean which counts the most to me. Service was also good. I liked playing shuffle board and tennis. In short, it's a good clean unit for the money with excellent common area but in need of new equipment and appliances.

We arrived at the Papakea with much of the same anticipation we had when we visited the Big Island last year and stayed at similar Aston condos. However, this place didn't come close to the luxory feel we had on the Big Island. This condo is very much dated (we intend to inquire on the build date next time we go anywhere). Also, the pools were very small (two of them). The in room safe didn't work and when we asked the front desk to fix it, all we got was that they would get on it...but we never heard from them again. As for Maui itself, this was our first and last visit. We so much enjoyed the Big Island and Kauai on separate visits, that we truly don't understand the hype with Maui. There's so much more traffic, higher prices, less snorkeling sights (unless you pay someone to take you in a boat...not necessary on the other islands) and just less to do.

Grounds are beautiful and well kept. It rained on and off a lot during our stay and any debris was cleaned promptly. The rooms vary A LOT. Our first unit, E302, and was old/dirty but close to the ocean. We requested new room because the room quality was not worth the view. We were very happy with unit C209 as it had nice upgrades and still had a nice view of the ocean and the sunset (sunset view will vary on time of year). Condo is about 10 minutes from Lahaina. Most of front desk staff were helpful, but some are rude.

Papakea offers all the amenities of home in a tropical paradise. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the suite with kitchen. The rooms are beautifully decorated; causal and comfortable. The kitchen is fully stocked with the appliances and utensils needed to prepare meals for the family (The grocery store is within walking distance). Step outside to the central koi pond, pool, spa and barbeque grill area and it is truly a home away from home. All of this and just steps from the gorgeous Maui beach. Traveling with other family groups, we each had rooms on the ground level allowing us to visit each other freely. The perfect answer to a multi-family vacation. We all found the resort comfortable and accommodating. When booking recreational activities the helpful and knowledgeable on-site Expedia representative offers a convenient way to plan your island activities. Overall, our stay was extremely enjoyable and memorable.

Overall the Papakea was a nice condo style resort with all of the important comforts and ammenities. My only complaint is the wireless Internet connection. It's fairly none existant. I even called the resort ahead of my stay to make sure that they had WiFi. They asscured me that they had it throughout the resort. Well as I found out, the service was spotty at best. And when you could get a connection it would only last for a few minutes before dropping off. My complaints to the staff fell on deaf ears... If you need to work during your stay, look into Maui Net for a dial-in connection. Don't rely on the Papakea WiFi. Other than the WiFi issue our stay was enjoyable and accomidations relaxing.

From the moment my wife and I checked in with the courteous desk help and found our upgraded honeymoon studio facing the ocean, I knew we would enjoy our stay. The grounds are beautiful with bamboo lining some walkways and lots of ginger and other tropical plants in bloom. There was even a nice putting golf course we didn't take advantage of, but added to the manicured look of the grounds. The room itself was bright, clean and outfitted with a full kitchen and appliances. We loved hearing the waves crash against the seawall about 50 feet away and often left the windows slightly open to hear the sound as we slept. The murphy bed was large and quite comfortable and stowed away when not in use. Lifting it could be a potential problem for shorter visitors, but I am sure the helpful staff would take of it if you wished. The housekeepers put away the bed one morning we headed out for breakfast and left the place not expecting them to service it. Fortunately, none of our valuables were touched as they layed out in the open. Expedia desk for activities is in the main office, but don't forget to check your discount packs from the rental car company!
