The hotel was wonderful. Especially the beach with warm transparent water, calm sea. The food is very good. There's a lot of variety, pancakes, french toast for breakfast, sandwichs and meat for lunch, etc.(not good for vegetarians, though). Our room was bad. It was under maintained. The tv was not working, beds falling apart, bathroom shower leaking. The room didn't affect our trip too much. The hotel grounds are beautiful. Shows are very good, a bit late though. The New Year's Eve party is great with lobster, shrimp, live entainment and music, and a great firworks show. Our overall stay at the hotel was good.

This is the second time I have stayed at the Coral Hamaca and for the second time the stay was wonderful. The choices in food where great, the beach was beautiful and the activities the hotel prvided where also wonderful. I went to three shows at the theather and enjoyed every single one,0 specially the one about the history of Hispanola (Santo Domingo). The only down side to this great hotel is the guys that wait for you to come out of breakfast or on your way to the beach to try to hassle you to attend to a seminar about hotel savings. People usually don't go away on vacation to attend seminars.

The hotel was fine based on the price youre paying. Its not a five star hotel and it shows with the food. Breakfast and lunch was fine but dinner was always an adventure. The restaurants should keep the menu simple and they would do a lot better. The people were very friendly and the drinks were good. The New Years party was great and so was the food. It only shows that they do know how to make a decent meal. They forget how to do it at the restaurants. The whole family from two year old to eighteen year old had a great time

Just came back from a trip to Hamaca. We had planned the trip many months in advance, so had a bit of time to second guess ourselves as we read some of the very negative reviews. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the hotel. It is no doubt a solid 3.5 star all-inclusive resort. Cleanliness and maintenance of the hotel are quite good, but can be better. The food was hit or miss, especially for vegetarians, but the chefs tried to accomodate. Initial service quality was somewhat lacking, but the staff responded well to special requests/complaints. There are garden view rooms "across the street", but they all feel like part of the same campus. There are a lot of moped-drivers on the streets who create a slight anxiety given the reports of purse snatchers, but we did not have any negative encounters. The beach/sand/water was beautiful. We never felt overcrowded. The pool and kids play areas were also nice. The after dinner theater was kind of run down. The New Year's Eve party thrown by the hotel was wonderful, with nice music, great atmosphere, decent food (great spread, but again not many vegetarian options), topped off by a spectacular fire works display. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to travelers looking for value for money. Yes, if you are expecting Ritz Carlton or Four Seasons, then best to look elsewhere.

The hotel was nice. There is a break wall so you don't have the large waves. Nice beach area. Very clean. The only trouble we had was we had to call every day because housekeeping forgot to leave something.Food was good. Unable to drink water out of the faucets, bars and restraunts have purified water. Also have bottled water included. There is some shopping at resort (not a lot). There aren't any resorts in walking distance. Need to take cab. The cab drivers are at the resort and are reccomended by the resort. Beautiful area. Security around resort - didn't carry machine guns like other resorts.

I just got back from the Hamaca hotel. I was there with my son and my mother. I must say that after reading all the posts I was truly unsure about staying at this hotel but I am glad I didn't listen. the people of santo dgo. are poor people but very humble and will go the extra mile for you. I was there with my 2 yr old. the people at the hotel were very patient with him, specially all the waiters. the room was decent and everything was second class, but we had everything we needed (AC/hot water/drinking water/free soda daily etc. the service at the bars was a little slow...but you have to consider that things run a little slower down there. the area is a little discouraging, and for that I would recommend taking a tour. it is well worth it. For $75 I went to La Romana, San Pedro de Macoris, Altos de Chavon and had lunch up there and also went to Casa de Campo. it was great! you will always find people around to help you and point to the right place...remember to bring some singles and always tip--in dollars--the maids that will clean your room for you so that they don't turn your AC off!

A very 'old' resort. The buildings show their age with peeling paint and patched walls. Some of the hotel personnel were very friendly, but, as a 'whole' the service left much to be desired. Regarding the 'all inclusive' features, the food was a major disappointment and the activites were lacking.

My girlfriend and I were very disappointed. We thoroughly researched this vacation and the reviews were very true. The service was extremely bad, the beach is not very nice, the food was awful with very little options. The beer tasted like they haven't cleaned the taps for a long time and the mixed drinks were pure suger. This is not the place you want to go if you want a nice vacation. Sad but TRUE.

This hotel was magnificent! It was exactly what was promised in the Expedia advertisement. The service was impeccable, the staff was oh so friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and endless. The casino onsite was so exciting. The disco, however, was pretty quiet, but that can be overlooked due to the size of the disco. The room was so spacious and the resort is huge, with so many activities to keep you busy. I cannot wait to go back ASAP with the rest of my family.

The hotel Hamaca is a great place for people to have an amazing vacation. The service is great. They make you feel part of their family, if you have any incovenience they dont hesitate to help you. Personally I went with my friend on april 2005 and we had a blast. the food was delicious, the room was always clean with new towels everyday. the entertainers were funny and they would motivate you to particiate in all of the activities. There are five bars one in each pool, by the beach, in the club and in the theater. the club you can dance all night because the DJ played good music. Now that im home Im recomending this hotel to everybody because is worth going to the Hamaca Coral by Hilton. There, you will have the best vacation you can ever have.

Took me 1 hour and 45 min waiting in line at the front desk after traveling, and the lobby is not Air conditioned! ..and every day the line was long and slow. The hotel grounds are also very big , so be prepare to walk to your room( I wasn't given a room in the main building).

I have just returned from 6 days at the Hamaca Hotel. I think that for the price I paid for this vacation it was worth it. It is not a 5 star resort but your not paying for a five star resort. I do think it is the 3.5 star that it is rated. The staff is great except for the continual attempts to sell timeshares on the way to the beach every day. The ocean was very shallow and you could walk out forever and still be at your waste. There was no waves if that is important to your vacation. I wasn't impressed with the nightly or morning buffets but the 3 restaraunts which are included were wonderful. Pizza is made all day on the beach which tasted great. The rooms were large and comfortable. I found the hotel clean and well kept.

We had been hearing so much about how nice and affordable a trip to the Dominican Republic could be. The trip was very affordable, but sometimes you get what you pay for. Boca Chica is somewhat of a ghetto and the surroundings had a third world feel. We felt stuck to the complex and because of this we were forced to make transactions at higher hotel exchange rates. The hotel is aware that you are stuck to the complex so they arrange activities that give you a summer camp feel. The food was bearable but the drinks are served in child sized glasses. If you want a cheap vacation this vacation will suit you fine. Keep in mind, though, an all-inclusive at this rate does not put you in very exclusive company.

We went to this hotel about 9 years back and decided to go back again this year (2004). The hotel, by far, has changed a lot and now has more activities than earlier. My wife and kids loved the place, the beach is great and the water is calm, there are a lot of excursions from the hotel and the persons that serve you are great. Besides this, the food is good, you have a great choice of different restaurants and you always find something suitable for the kids. Overall we loved our vacations and expirience at this hotel, we are alrady planning to go back again in the near future.

They do need to do something about the front desk and assigning rooms because we waited 1 hour on a line that had only two parties in front of us.The hotel is well kept and clean although when we got to our room it had not been cleaned from the last guests and it was 1:30am and we had to wait for them to clean it; we were tired. A little dissapointing at first. After that though things were much better. The hotel was clean and they are always cleaning or fixing something. The food was very good and service was good. We had fun on the tours too and the people were very nice.Just be prepared when you go into town, everyone will be trying to sell you something and they can be pushy. We wouldn't mind going back, but hopefully the front desk gets better.

I was very disappointed in the hotel. When we arrived check-in took about 45 min. (we were the only ones there). The clerk could not find keys & told us he would have someone let us in but come back in the morning for keys.(another wait of 45min)The bathroom was dirty. The mattress' were awful. There shower was moldy & the water was either scalding or off. The maid forgot to leave towels...we called 4x. They accidentally changed the code & we were locked out when we came back from the pool. They need a translater on staff. The front desk spoke very little English. The food was very bland.

This hotel had all the things it claimed in its online writeup. We participated in scuba, windsurfing, waterskiing, snorkeling, and watched others take the kayaks, towed tube rides and beach exercise classes. The 1/2 day tour was enough sight seeing for us, I wouldn't want to do a longer tour. But the one we took was well thought out with a visit to a sugar cane plantation, rum factory, cigar factory, horse cart ride, folk dance demo, and a drive through a couple of small towns.
