The hotel was great although it was a bit out of the way. The bus ride to town is 10 euros. The city was very dirty with ever square inch of walls covered in graffiti. I would suggest seeing Bologna but not staying the night.

This is a wonderful hotel. We were looking for something away from the tourist traps and super busy areas and this was perfect. Easy walking distance to the Vatican with some great places to eat close by. My favorite thing about this hotel was the breakfast, the juice was wonderful, the fruit was fresh, and the pasteries were great.

The Hotel dei Mellini in Rome is in a perfect location, walkable to all sites inside the Metro ring. We only used a cab to and from the airport. The neighborhood is residential and quiet, very non-touristy. It has an ATM at the end of the block and two blocks down the street are a market for bottled water and any grocery needs and a great neighborhood restaurant, Vito's. Vito will greet you himself and is greatly concerned that you are happy with your food. The Hotel breakfast is excellent and desk staff extremely helpful. This hotel would meet any American's standards.

Spent a weekend at the hotel, FABULOUS! Our room was gigantic. Even had a second bathroom. Staff friendly. Could walk anywhere we wanted. Clean room (except for prior guests socks under the bed!). No restaurant in hotel, but room service was great. 1 block from river and easy to cross the bridges to get to central Rome. 5 min walk to Piazza Navarra, 10 minutes to Trevi Fountains. Highly recommend. Would stay there again.

Excellent Hotel. Pick a room ending in "16" and receive an extra large living space... just as large if not larger than standard US hotels. Service top notch. Great light free breakfast every morning. Super clean rooms. Located in a very quiet, safe area (near Vatican), but walking distance (5-10 minutes) to most tourist and shopping areas. Would definitely recommend.

We chose this hotel for our March stay in Rome specifically because of the reviews on expedia; we were not disappointed! The hotel is quiet, low-key, and conveniently located (we never used any form of transportation other than our feet). The staff was pleasant, the breakfast was terrific, and the rooms were updated, clean and as comfortable as any in which I have stayed in Europe. For the price you just can't beat it!

With so many hotels to choose from, and having never been to Rome before, we were flying blind and relied on Expedia's traveler reviews. Could not be more happy about the experience! Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Rome. It was perfectly located. (We never once used a cab OR public transportation. Instead, walked everywhere and still saw all the important sites in the 3 days we had for our trip.) Wonderfully appointed rooms and very helpful staff. The breakfast was generous and varied. The coffee served at breakfast was the best we had anywhere! Spare yourself the trouble of looking further -- this is a great hotel, and a perfect location!

Close to Piazza Cavour, Castel Sant'Angelo and the Vatican, this hotel was a real surprise for us - high quality lodging, great breakfast buffet, good service and high-speed internet access to boot. Several bus lines run from the area and will get you where you need to go. Room service was convenient and surprisingly affordable. Highly recommend this property.

The hotel staff was very professional and friendly. This is an upscale hotel in a residendial neiborhood. The choice of restuarants is a little limited within walking distance of the hotel. But if you like pizza, you'll find numerous deli's. Our only complaint was the bed.

We recently returned from our first trip to Rome (end of April 2004). We will definitely return, and when we do, we will stay at the Hotel Dei Mellini. The rooms were very spacious and clean. The hotel staff was very helpful. The hotel provides a very good, extensive continental breakfast. The location was on a very quiet street just one block off of the Tiber River towards the Vatican. It is an easy walk to the nearest metro stop (less than 10 minutes), wonderful restaurants (near Piazza del Popolo), the Spanish steps, and the Vatican. We didn't have one complaint.

Knowing little about the Dei Mellini, we were apprehensive about chosing this hotel for a brief November visit to Rome. What a marvelous surprise! We were given early check-in; the staff was well-informed and helpful; the breakfast abundant and varied; the room beautifully maintained and spotlessly cleaned; the location on the Vatican side of the Tiber was perfect, and the neighborhood was quiet. We found nothing more we would have wanted.

My wife and I spent 10 days over the holidays in December touring different towns and staying at multiple hotels. After sampling four other hotels in Italy, including another equally rated hotel in Rome, we found the Mellini to be exactly what we were looking for. The service was excellent and the room was always clean. After several "European" style hotels, the Mellini was a warm welcome of American standards. Also, while across the Tiber, the location was an easy 5-10 minute walk to central Rome. When I go back, I'll stay at the Mellini!
