| Very impressed with the size of the room, but the elevators were an absolute nightmare (one nonfunctioning, the other extremely slow and once opening in between floors), the phone didn't work and we had no towels when we checked in. The staff was not helpful at all and didn't address issues professionally. I also would have appreciated a staff that actually knew their way around Chicago - taking out a phone book to direct me how to get to the nearest Citibank or Pizzeria Uno's seemed a little silly.

| I consider the Raphael Chicago a good hotel, very affordable and located in one of the best areas of Chicago. My trip to Chicago was related to business and I did not have time to fully enjoy the area. I hope in the next trip to Chicago for vacation with my family I can stay in the same hotel. It is very recommendable

| My experience at this hotel was not good. The rooms are dirty and extremely worn. The only good thing is the location. I complained at the front desk upon check in and they moved me to a slightly better room, cleaner at least. But overall, I am suprised that a hotel with this good of an address would be this run down. I would not stay here again. There were some friendly employees, that tried to make my stay pleasant. But, they couldn't do anything about how run down the hotel was. Buyer beware !!!!

| For those of you wanting a glitzy, glamorous hotel, this hotel is not for you. For those of you who have done a lot of backpacking through Europe, you'll like this place. It reminded me of a midrange hotel in Europe: nothing fancy, but clean, big room, comfortable bed and professional/polite front desk staff. We were pleasantly surprised that the room was actually a suite of rooms and the living room couch had a fold out bed. The location was great for sight seeing, being on the block adjacent to the Hancock tower, just a block or so from Michigan Ave and Water Tower. I would stay here again. It's a great value!

| If you're on business and plan to spend your entire stay in your room there maybe other more comfortable hotels with better in room accomidations. However, if you are visiting Chicago and want a room with the best location the laws of physics allow, this is the place. Nice rooms, great service, and a killer view. I dare you to find a room in the same price range in this area.

| Maybe I should've been prepared since it was one of the cheapest in downtown chicago, but it was extremely dirty, there were ants in our bathroom, paint was peeling all over the room, our bed broke, no fridge, ice was all they down on the first floor at the check in desk. I will be calling as well to put in a complaint on this hotel.

| It's not the most fabulous hotel, but it's decent , clean, and well located. the staff are nice and the rooms are good. Our room was unexpectedly large! try to get a corner room! Oh, and there is no minibar. (I always use it for storing water bottles and leftovers) If you are picky about pillows, you may want to bring your own.the ones provided were few and flat.

| My room was a dingy suite with no pictures on the walls and thread bear and nasty looking furniture. I had no hot water in the sink. The only upside to this room was that it motivated me to get out of it as soon as possible each morning and spend my time seeing Chicago. Two and a half stars for this hotel is a joke!

| The Raphael was an adequate hotel to stay at for a short trip, as long as you aren't fussy about the conditions. The room was clean and reasonably comfortable. It was very outdated, and needs renovation. In particular, the bathroom - it was VERY small - little room for toiletries on the vanity, no fan, my husband and I couldn't really get ready at the same time in there.

| The front lobby was nice, but our room was not up to par. The room had some mold, some ants, one of our windows was missing a latch to lock it and one of the shades needed to be rolled up by hand to open. I was very pleased with our location but the hotel needs to be updated.

| Nestled between the lake and the avenue named Michigan is a little piece of Europe. The staff was more polite than a Parisien, and the room was more placid than Prague. The room was very generously sized, with a couch, table w/ 2 chairs and two closets! We walked to every destination on the miracle mile, but when a car was needed the valet service was prompt (mostly) and friendly. Parking was a bit steep at $38/nite, but on par with other hotels in the city. Would gladly stay here again when visiting the windy city...James T. Heires, PMP

| Great location, next to the John Hancock building. Very nice staff. Parking a little expensive at $38.00 per night. Our room was smallish, but clean. We asked for a room on one of the upper levels for the view, and were accomodated. VERY slow elevator. This is an older property that has not been updated in a while, and the pricing reflects this. All we wanted was a place to bathe and sleep, as there is so much to do in Chicago. This property was perfect for that. No bar or restaurant in the hotel, but not a problem as there is so much close by.

| This was our second stay at the Raphael, and though the price was a little higher this time, we were very satisfied with our stay. The room was essentially a two-room suite. One room had a sofa and coffee table, a desk, two chairs and a TV. The separate bedroom had a king-size bed, dresser and another TV. The room was quiet with few annoying distractions (we were briefly awakened by an early morning garbage truck ourside). Minor inconveniences included having to pay for coffee in the morning, and having to go to the front desk for ice.

| I travel for work and stay in hotels several night a week. The Raphael is the worst hotel I've been in...that's saying something! The desk help was bored with my presence. The room was cold, there were no curtains on the windows, therefore I was unable to block the light out at night. The bed was uncomfortable and the linens were stained and worn. The pillows were nasty. The bathtub was so damaged, that I was uncomfortable even standing in it. The finish was missing in several places and it appeared that they had just tried to paint over the rusty holes in the tub. I will never go back and would never recommend it. In fact, if I were Expedia, I wouldn't even offer it on the web site. 2 1/2 starts is far too generous.

| I know this hotel is an older hotel, but the amenities and room decor badly need updating. Especially for the price. The room decor is from the 70's with old furniture. I would not walk around barefoot because the carpeting is old and dirty. As far as amenities are concerned, there are not many. No coffeepot, ice that has to be retrieved from from the front desk and no room service. Breakfast is available in the hotel, but only after 7:00am - not a great time for a business person. Be aware when using the phone - even toll free numbers will cost over $2.00 a call.

| The Raphael while greeting you with some older charm in the lobby which is decorated nicely, is quite disappointing once entering the room. We booked a "Suite" which was 2 rooms with carpeting that looked like it had been through a war, a bleach war. The walls were beat up and had wall paper from the early 80's at the latest. The furniture was old, not historic, old. The bathroom was ok. My favorite part of the entire experience was the soaps, which were from a spa line and smelled of grapefruit & citrus and the close proximity to shopping & major sites. Other than that, totally forgettable.

| We were very disappointed in the hotel, we were under the impression that it would be comparable to the Raphael in Kansas City, MO. It should be noted they are not the same franchise. The Raphael in Chicago is not comparable. It is dated and poorly furnished, including the linens. Our bathroom was not clean and the carpets were not clean and very worn. I thought it very poor that there wasn't even any type ofcomplimentary beverages to the guests or even a coffee maker in the rooms - even the Motel 8 offers that to its guests. We definately would not return to the facility or recommend it to any one else.
