| in general the resort was nice and clean. the staff was friendly and helpful. everyone spoke english. the beach was small but the water was great. we snorkeled right off the beach. the pools and bars were great and there was a good selection at the different restaurants. at times it was difficult to get snorkeling equiptment. there is a lot of construction in the area but if you are not into "exploring" it shouldn't make a difference. it's kid friendly.

| I stayed here April 2006. This was a really nice, clean hotel in a very nice, safe resort development. It reminded me a lot of Maui, a small community in a paradise setting. The staff was really friendly. There are nearby shops and restaurants within a few blocks and one local bar (Gringo Daves) which is fun and has great drinks. The only downside to Gringo Dave's is that it closes at 11:00. Resort also offers bikes you can barrow and ride to the shops. Room was clean with a great view of the adult pool. Complimentary minibar that is restocked daily and includes Coronas, sodas, water and juice. Ocean was fun to snorkel in and to kayak. Just be careful where you snorkel, I saw a lot of sea urchins! Ocean was not the best to swim in because there are not many waves and there is a lot of sea life (for the snorkeling). I would say the only downside to this hotel is the fact that you need to take a 10 min. taxi ride into Playa del Carmen. Otherwise, this is a wonderful hotel for those that want to get away from the city life and enjoy a relaxing, peaceful vacation.

| Our stay started out terribly. We were taken to our room, which was completely wet. We were told it was due to a temperature drop. We were finally found another room, and it was better as far as dampness. However, it was dirty, and had clearly been gotten ready speedily for us. We had to have someone come in that night and clean it. I must say, though, after that, we were pleased with the room. Also, the hotel staff was excellent. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful. The only real dissapointment was the food. We ate a lot of room service french fries. If you are looking for a reasonably priced place with a great beach and pools, I would consider this hotel. If you want something very fancy and a very high quality of food, certainly look elsewhere.

| I was very impressed with this hotel. When we read the reviews they made us nervous about the food etc but it was wonderful! The staff were so friendly, the rooms were clean, the food was excellent and the pictures just don't do it justice. There were activities for all to enjoy. Definitly more of a place to stay if you want to relax or spend time with family. The dive shop was excellent! I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

| The staff is excellent! My wife and I went to Sunscape/Puerto Aventuras for our honeymoon and it was fantastic. The swim up bars are a must, the ocean view rooms have an awesome view, and the hotel does a great job of supplying activities to make sure you have enough to do.

| We just returned and the trip was great! Rooms were nicer than we imagined, food and drink is abundant. The food is a little bland for my taste but was still very good and no reservations were ever needed. Beach is small but gorgeous and getting a chair was never a problem. If you do like to snorkel I would suggest bringing your own because they only hand them out for an hour at a time and only if the waves are calm and they stopped handing them out at 6:00pm. The staff is wonderful and there is a little plaza within 5 min walking distance for shopping and some very nice places to eat. I suggest Gringo Daves one night for fun band and great food and drinks. I did four scuba dives while there and I had heard the storms had damaged the reef area----Not True---Great diving. We are already planning a trip for same time next year!

| Just come back from a lovely stay at Sunscape. Everything is good, the beach, the food, the drinks, the spa, the lagoon with all the fishes that felt like you were swimming (snorkeling) in a aquarium, and of course all the friendly hotel staff. Great entertainment for all day and night. Excpecially the Disney movies they showed in the evening on a big sceen at the beach, our kids 9 and 11 enjoyed it alot. Overall the hotel is great!!!

| We stayed at the Sunscape 4/19 thru the 4/26. We had 2 rooms. 1 couple in each room. We never had any problems with either rooms. Very comfortable. Loved the hotel, nice restuarants, good food. The staff works very hard at putting on different shows every night. They were fun. My son and I did get sick on day after eating shrimp at the italain restuarant. But I would still stay at this resort again, cause overall it was great. The staff was very helpful. I didn't the fact that the door keys seem to deactivate almost everyday and you have to go have the front desk, reactivate them to get in to your room. The beach was very nice. The activities on the beach that were included were great. We really enjoyed this resort.

| While this isn't a 4 or 5 star hotel, it is nice for the low price. Be aware that the rooms vary greatly, so it is worth the room upgrade. Also, the lunch and dinner options are pretty poor, so this is not the place to go if you are looking for good food (athough the Mexican beach BBQ is great!). I would also recommend renting a car so that you can explore areas outside of the resort - as well as maybe a few restaurants for dinner!

| For the price this was a great family vacation. There was stuff to do for all ages. The food was overall pretty good and the rooms were kept sparkling clean! I would say the only improvment could have been on the friendliness of the staff (bartenders / wait staff)..they were just okay but never very inviting.

| Just came back a few days ago and had a wonderful time at the Sunscape. Wonderful service, good food, 5 restaurants, theme nights, great ambiance. I was a bit disappointed when I saw the beach area, very neat yet a bit small. The room overlooking the marina was very sunny and quiet, perfect for us. All inclusive, no worries. Excursion to Tulum/Xel-Ha incredible.

| The resort was great. I had a great time in Mexico. I must admit that I did exactly what I expected.... nothing. All of my needs were taken care of by the friendly resort staff they made my vacation enjoyable. I did however experience some loss of power the first day that I arrived, but other than that there was no inconvinience.

| My family and I stayed at the Sunscape Hotel for one week. The food was of a very poor quality, the elevator that worked was very slow so many times we had to take the stairs to the seventh floor. The pool was great and the ocean was perfect. Not to deep, perfect for swimming or kayaking. The tidal pool was a perfect place for children to practice snorkeling without having the waves push them into the rocks. Overall it wasn't a bad hotel, but I think they need to improve their food and the condition of the rooms was a little shabby, threadbare towels and linens.

| The staff was friendly and did a good job setting up activities in the evening for their guests. Can't really go wrong with breakfast and lunch, plenty of dinner selections but nothing spectacular. The resort has two pools which is great for single people because one is adults only and has a swim up bar. Just wished the pools were heated. Was not happy with the beach area very small swimable area and the sand was really rough, spent my time in the pool. The spa is nice and if you get a treatment you get full access of the facility including gym, jacuzzi and sauna. Massage on the beach was awesome! They have daily specials so I wouldn't book in advance.

| This is a great place to stay for people who are looking for a relaxing, no-need-for-thinking type of vacation. My husband and I were pleasantly surprised w/ Sunscape's accommodations and amenities. From the start, the staff was EXTREMELY FRIENDLY and helpful. Our room was much bigger than what expected and the restaurants offered enough selection for both my husband and I to enjoy. Additionally, there were enough activities that made this vacation exciting and relaxing at the same time. We highly recommend the bike tour, kayaking, snorkeling, and their movies on the beach - all of which are included in the package. The beach, itself, is smaller, so don't expect crashing waves or long walks along the beach. The only things that we had issues with were the occasional bad reception we had w/ our TV, the low ceilings in the bathroom, and the thinness of the walls (we could hear the pipes in the morning and things moving upstairs). But overall, this was a great vaca. In terms of people - there was a nice mixture of people who stayed. There are families w/ younger and older kids, as well as your occasional spring breaker, as well as your retirees. Makes for great people watching! Again - highly recommended!

| The resort was a nice place for our 6 day stay. Staff was very friendly and efficient. We were very pleased with our room, and the snorkling by the resort was great (although you need to be careful-it is shallow in places due to the rocks and there are sea urchins in the rocks) There is quite a bit of new construction going on in the area-and looks like they are constructing a commercial area behind the adult pool, but it did not affect our ability to enjoy sitting by the pool. The staff tries to include the youngsters in the evening hours entertainment-so the resort is a good choice for families and single adults. We enjoyed the restraunt that is by the sea-nice ambience not to mention a great steak dinner!! We would both stay at Sunscape again and would recommend it-the price is right!

| The hospitality was wonderful, people were very pleasant and kind. The room was great and the food was o.k. however what i didn't like was the bathroom in the pool area. It was not very clean and it smelled. My recommendation for the hotel is that they should have a mexican show with the actual mexican dancers to show their spirit.

| Very friendly and helpful staff and no problem getting drinks and food on the all inclusive package. 3 restaurants working and food was fine but not spectacular. Rooms very clean, beach access from hotel nice but small and sea view better than marina side. Hotel completely finished but ongoing construction at time of visit in surrounding area along the marina; no noise though and unobtrusive. Recommend the snorkel trips and well worth the extra cash.

| My college aged daughter and I were wanting a place with beach, pool, and spa. The winds were too strong to make use of the beach, but the adult-only pool with swim-up bar was pretty, very clean, and quiet. The massage and facial were wonderful! Food from the different restaurants varied a bit in quality, though the Italian restaurant was very good. Also, there was no limit to the number of times you could eat at the a la carte restaurants. Staff everywhere at the hotel was exceptionally friendly.

| Pros: Small, intimate location. Staff is very helpful and friendly. Family Friendly - Explorer Club is great for pre-teens age kids. Private beach and resort area. Enclosed cove makes beach swimming safe even with strong surf. Very close to XCARET. Cons: Not enough bartenders; always seemed to wait for drinks. Food is okay; Mexican specialites are very good. Resturants did not seem to have enough wait staff. Limited off resort entertainment. Beachfront is a little small. Bottomline: Great place for quiet, couple get-away or for pre-teen family where kids like pool and beach.

| The hotel is a nice size, not too big, not too small. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. The food is abundant and nicely presented. There are many choices of eating facilities to choose from. Everything including bottled water was included. Great! Our room had an ocean view with a balcony. Very large spacious room. The only complaint that we have is the beds. They are way too hard. We slept well each night, but they are noticeable hard. Power went out for 2 hours one night, but it was fine. Nothing was interrupted for too long.

| The hotel was elegant on the outside but rooms were a bit tattered; bathroom caulking very messy, air conditioning didn't work for two nights in one of our rooms, power outages, cold water, no water at all one time, stuck in the elevator for 10 minutes, service elevator unusable so workers had to use guest elevators. We were shocked to know that the hotel had recently undergone a $4 million renovation!
