I made my reservation thu Expedia at the Sand Villa but when I checked in I found out that my room was actually at the condo across the street called the Aloha Surf. It was a great place for the money. My room, a standard had one double and one twin bed. It was clean, this hotel seemed to be newly remodled with flatscreen LG TV, a DVD player and chic decor. There was also a sitting area with a pull out couch (The room could easily sleep 3-5). You have to use the ammenities in the Sand Villa but who wants to use the pool when you are in Hawaii and the beach is just 2 blocks away. This place was totally worth the money if you can get a room in the Surf. Unfortunately, I only stayed there one night but the room was much nicer than the hotel I stayed in the previous 5 nights. Just a tip, the kitchenette is just a microwave, fridge, sink and coffee pot, so don't expect a full kitchen setup. KJ

We found our hotel room small, but adequate, older and plainer, but quite clean. No frills (they do have TV,small refrigerator), but rooms kept clean and towels replaced daily, including ones they'll provide for beach. Waikiki Beach within walking distance - location of hotel is great! Parking fee (valet mandatory), but reasonable (a daily rate), and there is possibility of finding place on street (don't hold your breath!)They sometimes could have used another attendant. Only one elevator working, which made up/down slow. Nice pool area, large pool. Hospitality room with Internet, and access to WIFI in "bar/lounge." Continental breakfast, which got us out the door! Overall a great stay for the money - if you want a clean, quiet room to come back to after a day of sightseeing, this is the place. Great value! Would definitely stay there again!

The location can't be beat. The hotel was adequate versus luxurious, and they offer a complimentary continental breakfast by the pool (again, adequate, versus sumptuous), and free internet access. The location was terrific, just a couple of blocks from the beach. Overall, we were very pleased, and recommend this for families or folks looking to stay close, but not looking for a 5 star experience. We'll be back.

we liked the room but were diappointed that we couldn't get any help or services unless we walked across the street because the in room phone isn't connected to the main hotel. We couldn't even get clean towels or a roll of toilet paper without walking across the street. If you don't mind going across the street for everything, this is the place for you! Location was exceptional! Very close to central Waikiki.Overall, the extra running back and forth to get things was well worth it when comparing prices and awesome location.

This hotel may not be the fanciest in Waikiki, but its friendly and down-to-earth atmosphere more than make up for that. The staff are very welcoming and helpful, and the hotel's proximity to the strip at Waikiki provides easy access to beach and nighttime fun. The hotel's own Sand Bar is the perfect place to begin (or finish) the evening, as it is a favorite hangout not only of hotel guests but of locals as well. The continental breakfast leaves a bit to be desired -- some fruit or light fare would be very welcome, and could be served later than 9am, but otherwise you will have a very pleasant stay at this hotel.

This hotel is two blocks away from touristy Kalakau St and Waikiki Beach. The lobby needs some remodeling. Only one elevator was working when we were there, so it was always packed with folks. There is a small Japanese food stand right by the entrance, next to elevators, which makes great food for a good price. The lobby area always smells of oil since they heat up appetizers in the bar area which is across from the Japanese stand. It's seems a little bizarre, but it works. The free breakfast was just toast, mini donuts and coffee or juice. I enjoyed the pool. Front desk staff were usually pretty nice and helpful. The housekeepers were nice too. A very good stay overall.

Very nice hotel to stay in. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the closeness of this hotel to Waikiki beach, International market place, abc stores and everything else waikiki has to offer. The staff was very friendly and allowed us to check in our luggage early since we arrived before check-in time. The rooms were ok, the bathroom looked new and the view of the ala wai canal was nice. The negatives were there was only one elevator working, but taking the stairs is always good for you and theres ofcourse a fee for valet parking.Overall I would recommend this hotel for its convenient location and friendly staff...Great place for its price!

One of the elevators is under construction so if you can't do stairs you will have to wait 5 to 10 minutes for the elevator. Free breakfast isn't much at all, but at least a little something to get the day started. The pool is really nice. The bar has cheap drinks. Overall a good place!

We enjoyed our stay very much. Not a fancy hotel but clean and comfortable except for very firm beds and pillows. (Oh, my achy back) Needs new pillows. Many little touches that I liked. The hand hold on the soap dish in bathtub made for easy "getting out" after a hot soak. The rubber mat in the tub gave me much security as many tub/shower combos can be quite slippery. The hot tub by the pool was the best I have seen for temperature and strong jets for massaging feet, back shoulders etc. ( A little scummy from soap residue from peoples clothing but don't know how to avoid that.) Swimming pool a little too cold but quite pleasant once you were wet and moving. Location of hotel "not too hard for a seventy year old grandmother and her granddaughter" to walk to beach, shopping, restaurants, and a grocery. One disappointment, I thought the rooms all had microwaves and ours only had a refrig. The hospitality room for "after checkout wait" is a great asset with shower, toilet, free computers, internet access, great massage chairs (required dollars) Continental breakfast left a lot to be desired as there was no cereal or protein. We supplemented with hard boiled eggs most days. Last but not least, the valet parking was wonderful, would have been quite difficult to park there on our own. View of the canal and palm trees from our room was great. Traffic atrocious and one way streets confusing.

If you're looking for the best in service and amenities, this is not the place for you. But we didn't plan to spend a lot of time in a hotel room while in Hawaii - we were all about finding a place that we could shower and sleep. This hotel definitely worked for that! Rooms were not huge but they were clean. Continental breakfast was simple, but it was enough to get us started each day and a lot better than going out and spending more money! Concierge/activities services were great - the lady there helped us book some great activities including submarine, dinner cruise, snorkeling, and luau. The location was great - we were within walking distance of a lot of great shopping and dining.

My husband and I planned a last minute trip to Waikiki on a whim and, having never been there, had a wonderful time. The hotel staff were curteous and very helpful. We had a gorgeous view of the Ala Wai Canal from our room and the room itself was great, except that the bed was just a bit small for us since I'm used to having a King size bed to stretch out in. Aside from that, our room was clean, everything worked correctly and for the amount we paid, I think it was well worth it! I'd definitely recommend this hotel to those that are trying to save a bit of money on their vacation yet are still looking for a great, clean place to stay. The beach was about 2-3 blocks away, not bad at all! Everything is within reasonable walking distance and it's nice exercise.

While visiting my daughter who recently moved to Hononlulu, I chose to stay at the Waikiki Sand Villa because it was close to her condo. The hotel's location was an easy access point for driving anywhere as the valet service was always attentive when I needed my car and the main streets were close by. The "front door" drive-up service was undercover which was helpful in a rainstorm. My room was always clean and the towels soft and fresh. When the TV movies could not be accessed from the room, someone was sent to correct the situation right away. My only real complaint comes from the excessive street noise from buses, cars, and sirens going by on the busy near-by streets, but that is something the hotel really has no control over. I would choose a return visit to this hotel.

I stayed here for two weeks and the only negative thing I have to say is that the night time traffic noise was slighty excessive.I understand that the operators of the hotel have no control over this. The room I had was on the Kanekapolei side of the structure about halfway up.The staff responded positively to any request.I used the pool nearly everyday and other than a few leaves (the deck is surrounded by trees) the water was clean and very apparently had disenfectant in it.The continental breakfast was typical except for the lack of fresh fruit.Walking distance from the lobby there is a supermarket less than one minute away. I liked the idea of being able to check my bags even after check out(11:00a.m.). My outbound flight wasn't until 11:00p.m.. The room was exactly what I required,a clean place to lay my head. Other positives Hospitality Room with complimentary internet access , Guest Laundry(self service)and Fitness Room. I would stay here again.

The Villa Sands has some nice features; hotel lets you store your baggage after you check out of the hotel which means you can run around the island without your bags. You are able to use the shower in the hospitality room after you have checked out. For us this was great because we stored our stuff at the hotel, hit the beach and then came back, showered and took our luggage to the next hotel. Breakfast is donuts and watered down cofee--not impressive. Location is good but noisy and parking cost us $10 a night. Really hard to find other parking. Rooms were decent but cramped. One night the air cond. broke and we didn't sleep well. No fans offered, we were told that all rooms were out of air--next day found out this was not the case. Got our parking compensated--not a great fix for the problem but hotel otherwise was decent for budget travelers. Free internet and reasonable Japanese food cafe.

The room should just be a place to leave your things and sleep. It is always clean and the staff was friendly. The bar is fun. Have a drink and tell someone to look at you on the web cam. The bar has a wide range of drinks and the food they sell was good for being bar food. This bar is less expensive then the other hotel bars in the area. The iyasume restaurant has really good food. The spam musubi was a great for breakfast. The location is great. Just two blocks from the beach. And we had a great veiw of the canal and mountains.
