| This hotel is pretty and well kept. I was somewhat disapointed with our room as it was nothing like the "superior" rooms shown online. It was spare and the toilet paper roll holder was missing. The shower leaked a little as did the sliding glass doors. The in-room safe is not included in the price of the room. The drinks are good, as is the service. The pools are lovely and there is lots going on if you care to join. The Mexican rest. is crap, the Thai lovely, and the Italian disappointing. The buffet is fine. Be prepared for stairs-- the elderly, in-firm, or unsteady may want to find a different resort. Also the Groto bar wasn't ever open while we were there.

| This resort was very nice. My girlfriend and I were looking for a resonably priced place in a warm place and we got it. The weather was perfect the whole time, and we ran into no problems the whole time. We chose this resort because of it's descriptions of the grounds, the amount of activities and the good price. When we went it must have been somewhat off season in May, because there were not many people around at all which was great. The pools are amazing and they are adding and renovating every day. The layout was somewhat of a small Village and you had to work your way through to get to the beach. The food was very good and my girlfriend and I did not get sick the entire time, which I was suprised. My girlfriend has a sensitive stomach, but the food was prepared well and there was a lot of options for each of us to have what we wanted. Being the off season, it seemed like many of the activities didn't get off the ground just because there was so few people. But we were kept busy the entire time.

| The resort is beautiful, the best that I've seen in the area. The employees were very friendly and helpful. I feel that housekeeping wasn't efficient because my room wasn't clean. I advise you to bring your own towels! I wasn't satisfied with the cleanliness of my room but I loved the resort.

| Great choices of food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The resort had a slot of fun activities for the guest to enjoy and all of the activities that were off-site, were in close distance to the resort...can't wait to go back...the staff was so friendly and courteous

| Stayed at the Occidental Grand Flamenco 1st and that was beyond terrible. This hotels landscape is beautiful but thats where it ends. Food is terrible and make sure your room is not on 1st floor because if it rains your room will flood. There is a reason why the dominican republic is so cheap.

| Sun Village Resort is a spacious beautiful hotel. The 7 pools can accomodate many people so I had plenty of room to swim without feeling crowded. I can not say the same about the room.I had a standard room with cheap furniture, peeling paint and a bathroom in need of repair and renovation. It was kept clean thank God!

| This was our first time with an all inclusive vacation, and we felt we got our money's worth. The staff at the resort was extremely friendly and outgoing. The only problem we encountered was having no hot water in our first room, but they moved us with no hassle and our new room was fine. We didn't do any of the hotel excursions but did go on our own to Sosua Bay, which is a little more tourist oriented.

| As many of the reviews state, the grounds of Sun Village are absolutely gorgeous. I really enjoyed both the pools and the beach. The water may not have been clear blue but it was warm and clean and the beach was very well maintained. The food was as good as can be expected from an All-Inclusive Resort. It was nice to go to the restaurants but the buffet was good to be able to be sure you would find something you like. The room was fine with good air conditioning and the water pressure was good. The Ocean World trip was OK, but I am not sure if it was worth the $50. If you are not planning to pay the extra $100 or so for the dolphin or sea lion encounter, or are not going with kids, I would choose another trip. I definitely reccommend the Paradise Island trip. Overall, I had a wonderful stay.

| The resort was very nice. Wait staff were nice, although things move a little slower here (laid back). The 7 pools were well maintained. Food was very good. Beach was small, but very well maintained. No long walks on beach at night without insect spray---sand fleas. Night entertainment was good, very good dancers, and band was OK. There were a lot of steps---take comfy shoes/sandals. Would not recomend going into town; you can get everything either on beach, at gift shop leading to Ocean World, or on excursions. THe shops in the lobby were expensive. Room was well maintained and bed was huge and comfy.

| We just returned from a 4-night stay at this resort. First the good: the grounds were beautiful--absolutely gorgeous pools and landscaping. The food was good as well. Lemongrass (Thai) was the best. The staff, for the most part, was very friendly and helpful. The nightly entertainment was good. We enjoyed the karaoke, salsa dancing and singing. Now the bad: When you arrive, you are assigned a concierge, who we thought was there to make our trip more enjoyable. Not at this place. We were constantly harassed about investing in the property (SunVillage is privately owned by investors). She even called our room at least 3 times to ask us to go on a tour. We told her the first day, we were not interested in investing--that we were here to relax. She never got the hint and called my husband "close minded" at breakfast. Secondly, the room was awful. It smelled like mildew, was constantly humid, and as a prior reviewer stated, the bathroom door didn't close, the shower had no pressure and the furniture was broke. I couldn't believe this resort was only 4 years old. It hadn't aged very well. Overall, this was a good bang for the buck. We met other couples whose concierge was not as pushy (although they did get two 9am wakeup calls for "tours of the villas.") So, I guess it depends on who you get. In sum, I will definitely visit the DR again (this was our first trip), but I'm not so sure I'll be staying at SunVillage.

| The exterior was absolutely beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. The staff was very friendly. Entertainment was entertaining. There was not a lot of stairs as I had read. There are some but it is not continuous. You walk up four steps and then there is a flat surface. I went with two young children (6 and 3)and it did not bother them. The food and drinks were okay. I enjoyed the thai and some mexican. The buffet was better. The pools were many and nice. They were cleaned throughout the day but in between you cannot help the birds from doing their thing in it. Our Room: It was nasty. We had a standard room. The bathroom door did not lock. The shower was horrible. There was no water pressure. We showered with drips of water. The furniture is very outdated. I almost broke my fingers trying to open up the draws. Beach: Ugly. No white sand. No blue water.

| Sun Village was a superb experience. The staff was very pleasant and accomidating all your needs. The resort was spectacular from the pools to the beach to the lobby to the bars. The nightly entertainment left something to be worked on but the guests and staff made up for that. We would whole hartedly recommend this resort and would go back ourselves.

| Landscaping of resort is top in its class. Great pools, and staff is extremely nice and helpful. A great place to sit around relax. The food is so-so and you get tired of it quickly. Not a bad idea to buy some good alcohol before ariving because you can only take so much of cheap drinks.

| Service - excellent, Rooms - spectacular, Food - very good with 3 restaurants and buffet. The resort is on a hill and there are many steps from the lobby at the top to the beach below with many views and pools on many levels. The heights provide breath taking views. There are a lot of steps but I needed to walk off all the food I ate.

| We stayed at three hotels during our 2 week stay in Puerto Plata. Sun Village was the largest with the most courteous staff. The food was good and the night life was great! If you plan on lying out by the pool, you will not have a view of the ocean - but they do have a beach to lay out. I would also recommend upgrading your room to deluxe accomodations. With standard accomodations, you do not have any chance of receiving a room with any sort of view. Even with deluxe accomodations, the rooms are about 200 yards from the ocean with trees in between. Based on the other resorts we saw, I would give this one a chance.

| Sun Village Resort was the worst resort we have EVER visited. The staff is incompetent and not willing to accommodate the guests (even when requesting the bare mimimum). The facitlites are poor, particularly the spa and fitness center, and the food and drink options are limited. The staff at Sun Village simply does not understand the meaning of customer service. Save your money and aggrevation... go somewhere else!
