The hotel was great. I was especially impressed with the friendliness of the staff, every person there was so nice! Everything was clean and well maintained, and the resort and grounds were beautiful. The only negative thing I could say about it was that the food wasn't anything special, but it was good enough. I was a little nervous about not knowing any Spanish, but that wasn't a problem at all. I would definitely go back!

The hotel staff was excellent and the grounds were beautifully kept. The chocolate friends are the entertainment. They worked very hard to put on a great show every night. The only two problems we had were that we got charged for a mirror that was already broken in our room when we got there, but since we didnt report it we got charged. Check your room for anything thats broken as soon as you get there this way it won't happen to you! The second thing was that they have a vacation club and the salesmen stand outside the buffet all morning and follow you to try to get you to sign up for it. Other than that everything was perfect! The pool is big and beautiful and not crowded. The beach is kind of small, but down by the water is beautiful. We walked down by the other hotels every day. You can walk for miles! We had a very wonderful trip!

To begin let me just state that my husband and I have been to DR 2x before with never returning . We decided to try again. Glad we did! The choice of hotel was just right. The hospitality we received was incredible. Everyone from the front desk to the grounds people are remarkable. The rooms, resturants and outside bathrooms are very clean. If you are latino you will enjoy the food. It was great especially if you are a soup person. The pool is huge. We had the same spot the whole time we were there! If you go out of the hotel you will have the constant begging. Wherever you go in DR you will get that.

My husband and I and 2 children ages 7 & 10 had a great time. This resort was the cleanest place we had ever stayed at. We found the food enjoyable and a great selection, the specialty restaurants were our favorites. The Chocolate Friends were full of energy and kept the beat going most of the day, they also hit the sports bar at night with some dance lessons. Kids were a little disappointed with the 'Kids Area', more for a younger age but loved going to the go-carting. We only left the resort to go horse-back riding and would recommend this activity, we actually went twice. Only thing I didn't like was being hounded by people wanting to help with our luggage and also on the left hand area of the beach there are some shacks where you can buy gifts and get your hair braided. My daughters hair turned out great but once again we were 'hounded' to buy something, plus they kept asking me to go to the hotel and bring them soda. Felt so bad I did ...twice!

My wife and I visited Coral Marien on our honeymoon. It was a great choice for us since we wanted to sit back and relax. The beauty of that hotel is that it is simple and relaxing...the food is good but not world-renown, although it does offer some good variety. The rooms are nice and neat but not astounding. Everything is simply comfortable and serene.

The hotel was great, everything was very clean. The staff was all very friendly, if you get a chance be sure to make your way down to the Tex Mex bar at night, and introduce yourself to Eddie; he's a great bartender. The main down falls of this resort was the beach, and the food. The beach is not nice, and don't expect that clear blue water. The food was ok, nothing spectacular, of all the restaurants, the Tex Mex place had the best food. Everything was somewhat ok , due to the friendly staff in these restaurants.

Just got back from the Coral Marien last night. Im from New York and I found it to be very europeanized. Very few Americans here many Canadians, English and Germans. This was all inclusive and their was plenty of food to go around but the food quality was below average and not very good. The location was good. A nice beach very calm water. While there was plenty of entertainment durring the day at the pool and a show everynight followed by disco all night at the sports bar most of the entertainment was very cheesey. The entertainment staff was called Chocolate friends and they sing a theme song constantly lol. Alcohol included at the resort was limited. The on tap beer was a local beer called Presidente. If you want something else you have to buy it. Outside of the resort in Puerto Plata there is very little to do. You get haggled like no end by the locals to buy things on the streets... that got annoying! They would try to sell things on the beach every so often as well. Overall the resort was kept clean the people were nice and helpful and it was decent but i've been to better. Next time I might just go to Puerto Rico though :p

The hotel itself was perfect. Food was good. My husband and I had a wonderful time. Every day around 11am, a nice breeze started on the beach and would continue throughout the day. Our room had an ocean view and most nights we opened the patio door. The pool area was large and did not have a breeze. If we were hot, we went to the beach and if we wanted to feel the sun beating down on us, we went to the pool. It was our first time to the Carribbean. We would recommend this hotel but probably would not visit here again just because we want to experience new places. We might visit the southern end of DR and stay at one of the Coral resorts there.

The resort & property were beautiful and the food was phenomenal. We had a great time on our honeymoon and would definitely return. Only complaints were 1) Checkin is at 3pm and our room wasn't ready until 4pm, 2)We were hassled by promotional staff to meet with the resort's Vacation Club (similar to time share). It was very annoying since they wouldn't take no for an answer.

The hotel is clean, nicely maintained, and relatively close to the Puerto Plata airport (20 mins by bus from transfer company) The pool & beach are very great. Its worth the extra money to take the bananna boat ride - it was a blast for us all (mom, dad, and the daugters 14 & 11) The food & drinks are mediocre at best. Overall, a good deal for the price.

Hi, I just got back from a six-night stay at the resort 4/4/05-4/10/05. At first, I was a little nervous, because we had gotten such a good deal. However, I was pleasantly surprised. This resort was beautifully decorated, it was spotless! and the staff was very friendly. The food at the buffet was pretty good, breakfast is by far the best meal! I would suggest making reservations at the Sante fe grill and Risoletto for a tastier dinner. This vacation was thoroughly relaxing, I spent a lot of time by the pool. The ocean is nice, but a bit breezy during the day...not very good for snorkling. There was entertainment each evening at 9:45-"The chocolate friends" the dancers are very talented and the shows quite creative. This was my first time in Puerta Plata, DR and it certainly will not be my last! On the down-side, I was a bit turned off by the 3 hour long timeshare sales pitch I had to sit through.

Hotel staff was extrememly friendly and accomodating. Hotel grounds were beautifully maintained. Restaurant staff was wonderfully attentive and the food was delicious. Beach was extremely clean and the pool is huge. Chocolate friends, while not my style, kept my son entertained. Kids club although supposedly for kids 4 - 12 my son, who is 9, and the boys he hung out with wanted nothing to do with it. Kids club would probably be great for littler ones say 4 to 7. My family would definately return to the Dominican Republic and the Coral Marien.

Wow is all I have to say about this resort. My mother and I decided to fisit Dominican Republic for the first time. First of all expedia set everything up so when we got off of the plane our taxi was there to take us to the resort. When we reached the resort it was like a dream. The resort is very well groomed and very tropical. The lobby looked as if it was something out of a magazine. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly. Our room was very neat, clean and moderate. I didn't mind even taking my shoes off to walk on the floor. If you are on vacation to eat and drink this is the "place to be", fresh fruit and "bahama mamma's all readily available at your finger tips. The beach was clean and well supervised throughout the night. You do not have to go very far to buy gifts there are excellent shops on both ends of the beach. There are a couple of tours that you can participate that are between $37-$100. Every night there is excellent entertainment by the chocolate dance team and boy do they but on a show! Those kids perform as if they've been on broadway. The only thing I can say is after a while the food seems the same but who cares your too busy having fun! Make sure to bring lots of singles, five and tens for shopping.Overall I highly reccommend this resort I am all ready packed for next year!

The staff at the hotel was extremely accommodating and friendly. I would recommend having dinners in the specialty restaurants (Italian, French, or Mexican), make reservations upon arrival. The menus here are somewhat limited in choices but the food quality is good. Breakfast and lunch in the main buffet dining area usually has something for everyone and the food quality is overall good, and if you can not find anything here the grill has the old stand by of hamburgers. The pool is quite large and very nice, it is sloped at both ends and they allow you to put the lounge chairs in the pool. The pool does not have a swim up bar so you need to be careful when going to the pool side bar because the area around the pool is very slippery when wet. If you are looking for the sparkling blue waters you might be a little disappointed. This is not to say that the water here is bad just not as blue as some other areas. The color of the sand is on the brown side but don?t let this fool you it is soft like powder. I would recommend this hotel
