| I was impressed with this hotel from the moment I arrived. I was about 2 hours early but they found a great room for me. The staff was courteous and engaging and dealt with every request that I had with a smile that left me with the impression that they genuinely cared whether I got what I needed. In addition, the room was big and comfortable. The room amenities were particularly great for travlers. The only problem for me, a business traveler, was the lack of Internet access in the hotel room. Fortunately, this was not an issue for me on this particular trip but it could be a problem for some.

| The hotel was always very clean and well maintained. The location is close to all sightseeing in the National Mall area. The only downfall was in the district the hotel is located everything basically closes at 5:30 when all the area attractions and businesses close. Dinner restaurants besides the two in the hotel were nowhere to be found unless you take the metro which is easily accessable in the basement of the hotel. Wish we had found Union Station sooner and would have enjoyed all our meals there. Overall very pleased with the hotel.

| Being only a block from the Smithsonian Castle, the L'Enfant Hotel is a perfect choice for visitors. We had a view of the Potomic from the room and it was spacious and clean. The lobby level Foggy Bottom restaurant had good salads and sandwiches at a reasonable price. The gift shop had everything we needed. There's also a Starbucks kiosk for quick coffee and muffins. In addition, there's a mini-mall under the hotel with an assortment of cafes and shops, but most are only open from 8 to 5. We enjoyed our stay and would recommend it to anyone visiting for the first time and needing close access to the Mall and museums.

| The hotel is in need of renovations. I knew this going in as I had read other reviews. The staff were helpful. Resturaunt was closing but they served us as we must have looked distressed. Waiter was very friendly and helpful. Location is great for walking and public transportation but not for dining outside the hotel. Needs renovations but would still recommend.

| This is still a beautiful hotel, but the rooms really need freshening up. I've been staying here on and off for twenty years, and the moment I set foot in the room (especially the bathroom), I could tell the place hadn't seen any new fixtures or appointments since then. Still a nice place, though.

| Cons: not too clean, old brass decor everywhere seemed cheap, about half the wait staff was impersonal and distant, not giving very good customer service, other than a few simple things (bagel, roll, water, coffee) I would not eat in the mall beneath the hotel--no atmosphere and the quality of the restaurants seemed low and seedy. Our room fridge was dirty (it had slimy stuff inside it...don't know what that was)and the bathroom was not exactly as clean as we would have liked. One day a hotel staffer appeared, knocked, then proceeded to lead in a group of men as if they planned on using our room even though it was already in use, though of course they left when they saw we were there. It didn't really give me the feeling that the room was that secure and I was not really sure they would have left if we were not actually in the room. We used the safe they provided. Pros: excellent location above metro--all lines except one passed beneath the hotel, could get coffee and breakfast downstairs but wouldn't eat anything else from there--they do have a McDonalds if you wanted that sort of thing. Bottom line is this: Its a good hotel mostly because of the metro station beneath it. You can jump on lines going anywhere in DC and get there pretty fast. There is nothing to eat close to the hotel unless you want to spend time in the mall beneath it, which I did not. We were in DC for 6 nights and always just jumped on the metro and headed a few metro stops away to grab something to eat.

| First of all, the photo's showing the rooms and the hotel must have been taken centuries ago! Our room was shabby! Lamp shades ripped, walls dented in, ceiling was dirty, and the bathroom? You don't want to know. The location of the hotel was good and close to everything, but that was the only thing good about it. The hotel staff were not helpful or courteous and difficult to understand. Not worth the money. This should be a two star property at best.

| I paid a fairly decent amount to stay at this hotel from 5/15-5/16/06 but to my dismay, due to the poor quality of hygiene control at this hotel, I took one of the extra blankets from the room's closet only to find the next morning my body was filled with bed bug bites. Arms, legs, back and chest - my entire body was filled with small red rash-like bug bites and I have been suffering from these bites for the past week and am still in the process of recovering from this incident. I called the hotel and wanted to address this issue to the hotel manager but again, to my dismay, I have been put on hold for more than 20 mintues and was then forwarded to an automated machine. In short, first of all, I am dissappointed that such a hotel does not better maintain quality control of such basic accommodation materials such as its blankets and secondly, not having anyone to talk to at the hotel to address such customer frustrations makes me even more furious. In conclusion, I strongly do not recommend this hotel if you're looking for a clean and pleasant stay in D.C.!!!

| Hotel was close to Smithsonian, which was great, the pool was nice, the beds were very comforatable. The main problem was the service or lack thereof. They gave us bad directions to a restaurant. My wife is six months pregnant and the attendant told us it was within walking distance. It was two miles away! We forgot our bathing suits and called the hotel and they never returned our call. It was our fault for forgetting the suits but a return phone call would have been nice.

| The L'Enfant Plaza is conveniently located to the tourist who wants to see the Smithsonian museums and the momuments. Our room had a window view of the Washington monument. However, this hotel is located in a large plaza that seems devoid of businesses that cater to the tourist, like coffee shops or small eating establishments. The mall underneath the hotel is closed during the weekend. The food at the hotel restaurant is good but expensive. Our waiter for dinner at the restaurant was unfamiliar with our drink order -- a martini-- and was minimally attentive. The hotel accommodations are nice but the service desk was so slow that it took us 1 hour to check in when there were only 4 people ahead of us.

| Our overall impression of the hotel was great; however...the mall in the basement that had family dining alternatives is closed on weekends! The one dining room in the hotel was a little rich for our taste. Starbuck's coffee service was a plus and a small varity store was open for general purchase like water, juice. Hotel is not within walking distance to many restaurants but the metro is accessable from stairs in the lobby.

| This hotel is in a great location close to the National Mall. It was easy to walk to and from the hotel and we also had easy access to the subway. Our room was rather large but only came with a sofa bed. It seems strange that it costs less for a larger room with sofa bed than it does for a smaller room with a real bed. The sofa bed made an already sore body from walking all day even more achey. At least it was a place to sleep. The coffee maker was broken, the mini bar empty (not that we wanted to use it anyway), and the bathroom television only receives one channel. The hotel staff was fairly friendly. I had to make a call to confirm our reservation before we left for the trip and over the phone the employee was not very nice so I was leery of them when we arrived. The in room decor is a bit outdated but it doesn't matter when you just need a place to sleep anyway. Our room was a corner room with two walls of windows with a gorgeous view of the Potomac River. After taking the subway we decided that next time we'd stay at a hotel a bit farther away and just take the subway into the Mall area.

| I stayed there for April vacation with my two sons. It was had a lot of good points. Short walk to the Mall, metro underneath the hotel and places to eat in the lower level. We hit Au Bon Pan every morning for breakfast. Dinner is another story as everything closes early. One night we had room service. Food was very good, but don't believe the standard 30 minutes they tell you. One other item I must mention. I asked for a non smoking room and supposedly got it, but...the room stunk! My kids didn't notice but I did.

We requested a new room the next day and the staff apoligized and immediately moved us to another room. There is a nice women's shop but it is only open Mon.-Fri. For a small fee you can have a color portrait done in the lobby. The restuarant was very reasonable with good food. A great place to stay in the heart of DC.

| We were on a family vacation and chose this hotel due to its location and access to the Metro. You can access the Metro without going outside and this was a great feature. The lobby is nice and the room was also nice, but not exceptional. There is a small mall located on the Metro level that was billed as a convenience. But the stores/eateries close early and it was not as helpful as expected. It was good for breakfast, but we were out during lunch and it was basically closed for dinner. We really liked the convenience and location of the hotel, but we felt it was a bit pricey for the value.

| We found our room very clean and comfortable. There were two in our party, one person thought her bed was hard, but I had no problem with it. The staff was superb, we did have a little difficulty understanding two of them, which I believe was due to their foreign accents, but so very, very nice. Upon our late arrival we ordered room service and the service could not have been better, food was good. The following evening we ate at the restaurant on site and could not even eat half of our order, because the taste was horrible. One of us had a lemon chicken platter and the other person had a pasta dish. It was pricey. It was convenient to the Smithsonian Museums and other sites. Our biggest disappointment was finding places to eat, the mall below the hotel had a few fast food places, but they were closed by 5:30 and some not open on the weekend. As far as we know, there were no restaurants within walking distance. Having the Metro directly under the hotel was an added plus.

| This was my first time in DC. I had to go on a business trip and decided to take my husband and 1-year old with me and make the most of my free time. L'Enfant Plaza Hotel is an excellent choice for the first-time visitor in Washington DC: It is a 5-minute brisk walk from the Smithsoninan Castle and a few more minutes from the National Mall Museums; it has an underground Metro Station underneath it, which you can access through stairs or elevator from the lobby, and all lines (blue, orange, yellow, green)but one (red) run by it. Also underneath it has a "shopping mall" called The Promenade, with breakfast shops as well as ATMs, pharmacy, dry cleaners, etc. We stayed at a Parlor with a comfy queen size sofa bed (we all slept together)that it was almost as big as our apartment-perfect for an energetic 1 year old.
