| One of the best parts of the Outrigger is that it is next to one of the only beaches in Kona. This beach has the best snorkeling in Kona, with many sea turtles and beautiful neon fish. It also has the best beginner surf waves since it is in a cove. The Big Island doesn't have many natural beach/snorkling/surf areas but there is one next to the Outrigger. The Outrigger is quiet, clean, and classy. It didn't have the noisy riff raff that some other Kona hotels did. We also didn't feel "outclassed" by the the super-rich. I would go back in a heartbeat.

| We loved the fact that this hotel was built out over the water and from our lanai you could watch the turtles and the fish in the tide pools that flow under the hotel. Common areas are very nice and the people were very friendly. The rooms could use a remodel but we would definitely stay here the next time we come to Hawaii.

| The hotel had a beautiful setting and the dining on the main floor was very good. The room was a little outdated and there was no bath tub but we didn't spend much time there anyway. The shallows by the hotel allowed us to see lots of fish and turtles which were very colorful. I would consider going back to this hotel. Unlike other reviews we didn't have any problems with parking.

Location was great, wonderful snorkeling at the beach next door, just a short drive to the shopping and restaurants. Centrally located to enjoy many sites on the island.

| We opted for an ocean-view room and were not disappointed in the upper-level room we recieved; the scenery was excellent and above expectation for the price (relative to the larger resorts on the Kona coast). The room was clean and well maintained, but the bath was showing it's age (1970), despite apparently recent renovation. Dining at the restaurant and drinks on the terrace bar were very nice--the hotel promises views of tropical fish and large sea turtles in the attached lagoons, and sure enough we saw many of both. The hotel is built amongst what appear to be the grounds of Hawaiian Ali'i; more information on the historical significance of the sight would be great, especially if posted in the rooms. Parking was a bit scarce, still, we managed to find a spot each night. The only thing that marred our visit, and the view from our room, was a bird trap located on the roof of the restaurant below us. The front desk explained that some guests have objected to birds mingling with them in the open air restaurant; hence the large trap designed to catch them, and from which "we hope to relocate them to another place." Regardless of the unlikely efficacy of this approach, as paying guests we found it depressing to see these unfortunate birds struggling to escape, day after day...

| We arrived at night to see the hotel softly glowing by torch light, it was lovely. The location is great, close enough to town, but still remote enough. The view is breathtaking. We only ate at the hotel a few times, and the food is one of the big drawbacks of this hotel. I would plan to eat off site for most of your meals. There is no room service, and the hotel staff are not at your beck and call, but just go and relax Hawaii style.

| If you stick to the public areas, the hotel is kept up. The hotel's location on the beach is perfect. Negatives: Hallways and rooms are dated. Could hear neighbors through the 2" gap at the base of the connecting door to the next room. Bathroom didn't have a fan and the smell of mold was strong from the shower curtain. Bar area is closed until approx. 2:30 pm. Any entertainment is over by 9 pm. However, watching the waves crash below is fantastic.

| Everything about this hotel was great, including the price, except for the fact that the rooms were noisy as were more of the fellow guests. Our first night was spent on the ocean side on the 3rd floor. We had the misfortune of being placed next to a group of what I can only guess were college kids who decided it would be fun to have a musical jam session including guitars and BONGO DRUMS (I am not kidding) from midnight to 2 AM. Now I was young once but come on--bongo drums? Fortunately the hotel staff handled it very well and eventually called the police to have the offending guests kicked out. The next morning I asked if we could move rooms because although the neighbors were gone, the rooms were not well insulated from sounds from the hallway, adjacent rooms, etc. I am a really light sleeper so I am a lot more sensitive to this sort of issue than many people but if you are looking for serene peace and quiet this may not be the place for you. Anyways they apologized sincerely for the trouble and upgraded us to an ocean view room on the 7th floor, which was much quieter. The service was outstanding overall and the facilities are an excellent value, although the lack of a hot tub might be a downer for some.

| Stayed 12/10/05 thru 12/17/05 in room 452. Room had a nice view of the water from balcony even though it was a garden saver room. Daily housekeeping was exceptional. Snorkeling was on premise and swimming with sea turtles that come by you within 8 ft. It was amazing. I wasn't crazy about their breakfast buffet, but Friday seafood buffet was superb. Hotel was out of the main really busy drag but very quick to get to for shopping and any sightseeing you want to do. As with any hotel, cheap or pricey, you have minor cosmetic blemishes (microsopic small cracks in bathroom tile, I have them in my tile at home that can be repaired). You are not in the room the majority of the time anyways, only to sleep. You are driving for the sightseeing and surroundings, which you was beautiful, sunbathing, swimming, shopping, etc. We would definitely recommend and stay here in a future return to that island.

| I was very impressed with the beauty of the Outrigger Keauhou's grounds. We loved laying in the hammocks, watching the sunset every night. Their fitness room is simple, but adequate for vacation workouts. The snorkeling right next to the hotel was the best we found any place on the island. There are many turtles and beautiful, exotic fish. If you love to snorkel, this is the spot! I was not impressed with our room. The bathroom didn't even have a fan, and there was no bathtub, only a cramped shower. If you are looking for a luxurious hotel room, then this place isn't for you! The mattress was good, however, we slept well. The staff was knowledgable and courteous. Overall, if snorkeling is your top priority, then you will be pleased with what this hotel has to offer, even if the rooms are dated.

| We stayed here the week prior to the Ironman triathlon and loved it. About 6 miles south of Kona, with free valet parking, free wireless internet in the lobby, nice pool and great views. The lobby, reception and restaurants are all unenclosed. The beach next to the hotel was packed with beatiful fish and sea turtles (in a few feet of water!). The staff was extremely friendly and accomodating, and it was safe for the kids to explore the tidal pools around the grounds, and the gardens full of historical sites. The breakfast buffet was pretty good, and the sunset from the bar terrace not to be missed. The rooms were a little dated and worn, but clean. For the price, no complaints.

The property is impressively gorgeous (great views, sunsets, hammocks)and quietly relaxing. The staff was very friendly, helpful and acted like we were appreciated to be there. Close enough to Kona to be convenient but far enough to feel isolated... We loved it. Would we not go back... Everything shuts down a half hour before closing. 10 means 9:30. No room service, dinner was not quality for the price (go to Huggo's) but breakfast was good, no sandy beach except for white sands but caution rough surf for young and inexperienced. The hotel was a little rough on the edges. For a quiet ralaxing trip on a great ocean front property for snorkelers, in a laid back atmosphere, I'm in!

When the tide was out you could see then swimming around feeding on the alga. There was a cat which would come out when the tide was low and go fishing. She was just amazing to watch. The food was five stars. The grounds had tiki torches at night. The bar has hawaiian music every night. But the people were the best. Friendly and warm. They fixed it right away. I had no coffee, boom, we had coffee. We needed more towels, we gott'em. Great ocean view. Great water access for viewing sea turtles a few steps out the hotel door. Best snorkeling 100 yards away. Nice pool. Nice restaurant. Great parking. This hotel is south of town a bit. This gets you out of the downtown traffic and hustle and bustle. | We stayed at this hotel for 11 nights in August 2005 and will stay here again if we come back to the Big Island. The hotel's tidepool is home to many Hawaiian Sea Turtles and beautiful fish -and the snorkeling at the beach next door was incredible. This hotel is a couple of miles from the main shopping district on Alii Drive, but that's alright because it has a more relaxed atmosphere complete with hammocks (perfect for watching sunsets!). As for the room itself, the extra money for the Deluxe Ocean View room was worth it and the hotel staff always made sure everything was kept clean. The only thing we didn't care for was the extremely small bathroom with a broken towel rack, but that's not a big deal. Also, the hotel's food was average at best.

| I stayed at the Outrigger (Keauhou) in JUL of 05. I enjoyed it. Ocean view rooms are best: my balcony was an excellent spot for birding or for watching sea turtles in the lagoon. I chose this hotel because it was supposed to be adjacent to the big island's #1 snorkeling beach, Kahalu'u. Upon arriving I found that Kahalu'u's reef is dying due to overuse by humans. Please do not snorkel at Kahalu'u, there is better snorkeling elsewhere. The hotel itself has three restaraunts of its own but is not within walking distance of any others. The food is decent but expensive (the "Keauhou Bay Mixed Greens Salad," priced $6.75, is really 3 tomato slices and 2 cucumber slices on a bed of lettuce). Overall, the staff was patient, helpful and friendly. This hotel is recommended for those who would like to get away from the crowds and traffic to be found further north on Ali'i Drive. Caveat: the hotel's voicemail system was not working during my stay.

The location is great -- far enough from other hotels to be relaxing, yet closer to Kona & shopping (including grocery & drugstores) than the more stylish hotels.
