Features
What to expect: Liveried doormen greet guests arriving at this grand 1930s hotel, a member of The Leading Hotels of the World. Middle Eastern rugs and 18th-century Venetian armoires decorate the marble lobby. International businesspeople and retired Americans quietly relax over drinks in the bar. Amenity highlights: A range of meeting rooms with seating for up to 500 in theater style are decorated with 1930s Art Deco glass panels. There is a small fitness center, with exercise machines and weights, and a spa, where beauty therapists offer mud wraps and a variety of pampering treatments. Insider tip: From the seventh-floor meeting rooms, there is a view of the Art Deco Central Station, dating from the 1930s. This is worth a look, when the rooms aren't in use.
Gallia's Restaurant - On the ground floor, this grand, marble-floored restaurant has heavy gold drapes at the tall, floor to ceiling windows and walls paneled in blue and gold fabric. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. A monthly seasonal menu features the best of local produce while an à la carte selection offers traditional Lombardy dishes, such as Milanese veal cutlet. Baboon Bar - Dark wooden paneling is highlighted by colorful Art Deco glass mosaics in the non-smoking bar. A smoking section is adjacent in the lounge, where guests can enjoy an Excelsior cocktail on the comfortable sofas and armchairs beside a trompe l'oeil carnival scene. As well as premier cru champagnes, the bar serves sandwiches, salads, tea, and coffee.

| Overall the hotel is a good- - just keep matters in perspective. For the price, it's centrally located and right next to the train station. Tourist sites and shopping are relatively close. The hotel property is beautiful and the hotel staff provides prompt and courteous service. The room was nice and spacious and the bathroom was cool. However, many of the amenities were outdated or in need of upgrading. We had a king-size bed and it was a little stiff but that didn't stop us from having a good night's rest. The overall price to value makes this hotel a good choice- - we would use it again in the future

| Nothing has been updated for years. The cost is quite high and you get next to nothing for it. The gym is three pieces of equipment in a botel room on one of the floors.

| Although the interior was being upgraded, I found the hotel to be comfortable, even though the staff was not particularly accommodating or visible. Breakfast was grossly overpriced (about $40 for a cold buffet).

| Having never been to Europe, my standards may be a bit different. I found the overall hotel experience quite comfortable. The staff was not always friendly and there is absolutely NOTHING for free. No ice machine so you need to call room service and there is a charge. This is a 41/2 star hotel and the prices reflect that. Continental breakfast was aprox 45.00 U.S. dollars.
