Enjoyed the ambience of this hotel, but our carpet was very dirty and the bed skirt was ripped. The first night we returned from dinner and our door was ajar. The lock was broken and we reported this to the front desk. It was glued back, but did not feel secure. We asked for a different room, but was refused. Clothes were also missing from room.

My husband and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary. I was looking for a quiet, romantic setting. I absolutely found it at Main Street Inn. From the beautiful gardens to the cozy, beautifully decorated room, it was everything I was looking for and more. We definitely plan to go back. The only thing they need to improve is their air conditioning system. There was a portable air conditioner in our room that had a container at the bottom. This container filled with water approx. every eight hours or so. If you didn't dump out the water, the air conditioner stopped working. After we learned what to do from the maintenance person, the remainder of our stay was very comfortable. But that was not enough to "dampen" our overall impression of the hotel...Fabulous!

Our hotel room had an internal air conditioner unit. The unit worked very well but had a compartment that you had to empty the water from or just the fan would run and you noticed an immediate increase in temperature. The outside temperatures were in the upper 80's and the water had to be emptied every 3-4 hours. We would wake up in the middle of the night because the room was hot and then had to get up just to empty the water so the room would cool down. Everything else was really wonderful -- the breakfast, gardens, small pool, afternoon snacks, turn down service with truffles.

If you don't mind a 15-minute drive to Coligney beach (or 7-8 to the less-crowded Folly beach), the Main Street Inn is a FANTASTIC place to stay. It is much more sophisticated, elegant, and romantic than the typical beach hotel. For those who like more upscale hotels, or are looking for a romantic getaway, this is the place to stay. Although the rooms are accessed from outside, the setup is much more comparable to Carribbean style cabanas than an open air 'motel'. Our room was very clean, and boasted a large marble bathroom. The grounds are absolutely beatuiful with gorgeous design. A rear courtyard sits beneath a canopy of palm trees with garden-like pebble pathways and landscaping. The 'lap' pool is relatively small, but well maintained and quite nice (as is the jacuzzi). The inn's buffet-style complimentary breakfast was better than average with eggs, bacon, pastries, cereals, fruit, coffee, and tea. Although the room rates were similar to those at the Holiday Inn, the Main Street Inn was FAR better if you like nice hotels. Expedia rated this as a 3.5 star, but I'd easily give it a solid 4 star rating. I'd love to see king size beds at the hotel (the rooms only had queens), but that's a small price to pay for all the other positives this inn has. I'll DEFINITELY stay here again.

Main Street Inn is very cozy and comfortable, the atmosphere is peaceful and surroundings beautiful. You could walk to nearby shops and restaurants and be there within 2 minuets. It is secluded and yet close to everything you could possibly need while on vacation. The staff was very courteous and nice. I would love to stay there again.

We stayed at the Main Street Hotel July 12-18,2006. We went to Hilton Head to attend a son's graduation at Paris Island and extended our vacation because we had never visited Hilton Head. I enjoyed the Main Street Inn tremendously. They had a lot of unknown perks. We were served breakfast, not just muffins and coffee, it was a breakfast, and each day they had something different. They had fresh coffee, tea and cookies during the day and afternoon. You were offered wine in the evening. They came and turned down our bed in the late afternoon. The decor of the Main Street Inn was great. Well maintain gardens full of flowers. I was very pleased with this hotel and will go back.

I recently just returned from a week long stay at the Main Street Inn and was smitten from the start. I had an amazing time, and will be returning in August. Everything from the decor to the staff is wonderful. Highly recommended and anyone will enjoy their stay as the staff at the Main Street Inn rise above the norm.

As other reviewers stated this was a lovely hotel. Totally different from the rest of the island. We wanted to stay longer! Tea and coffee every afternoon and pecan cookies to die for. Breackfat on the garden was very pleasant and always fresh. Room was great with a very nice bed and great bathroom. Many rooms are queens but this was not an issue for us.

Main Street Inn is not another of these big international hotels that are the same everywhere and thus dull and boring. This place is a small luxurious and quiet hotel with perfectly styled rooms, a wondeful garden and a great and individual service. We felt very much at home. We would go back anytime. Note: The hotel is not at the beach. Parking spaces at one of the few public beaches is very limited.
