| We loved our stay at the Mandrian. The only down side is the resturants are pricey. We stayed ten days and only ate once at the hotel, it simply was too expensive - (around $75/person). But, you are in short walking distance to the National Mall and the Smitsonians each have a Cafe. We took the Metro to China Town and Union Station and found several great resturants. The Metro is just a few blocks from the hotel. It was wonderful to come back to such a comfortable hotel after a long day of sight seeing! The staff was exceptional, the room and view were fantastic. Our thirteen year old enjoyed the pool.

| To start, they put all of our luggage in a room that was already being occupied so after our long flight we had to move all of our luggage to another room. Then, the valet parkers used our car while we weren't using it and left their rap music in it. When we talked to the front desk about it and gave them the cd back all they had to say to us was "okay we will make sure they get their cd back." We spent thousands of dollars on this hotel not to mention what we spent while we were there. You would have expected better behavior from that luxurious of a hotel. All and all the rooms themselves are beautiful with wonderful views. There are better hotels located in town if you are interested in seeing the sites. I would say if you have children do not go here. This is a hotel for people who are doing business not for pleasure so you do not see any children there.

| This may be the finest hotel that I've ever experienced. The only problem I encountered was in its one and only restaurant. The wait staff -- and it was a large one -- simply did not know what it was doing; therefore the service was very slow.

| The Mandarin is a nice hotel, but not up there with the best of them. Rooms are cramped, if you need an extra bed they have only roll-aways with lumpy little mattresses -- no sofa pull out beds anywhere in the hotel -- the views are mostly over government buildings, the highway or train tracks -- same goes for the pool and the gym that are supposed to have "great views" and the hotel has ridiculous policies like hotel guests can't use the steam room because it's in the spa!

| The only negative aspect of our recent stay was the food in the room service. To compensate, the food in the hotel's restaurant "Cityzen" was exceptional.

| The hotel was extremely clean. Our only dissatisfaction was with the lack of dining choices. After a long day of sightseeing, we simply wanted to go back to the hotel and eat and rest, the dining room was advertised as "casual", but the food was anything but. There really wasn't much for the kids to choose from and the regular adult fare was way overpriced. I think $18 for a hamburger and fries is outrageous. I don't care what type of beef it was made out of. Room service was a little better option because you could order several orders of chicken fingers and the cost wasn't exhorbitant. We went with the pizza, though, and was very disappointed. They were small and $15 each and tasted horrible, we couldn't finish them. We had also requested adjoining rooms 6 weeks in advance, but they didn't accommodate us with that request which made going in and out of rooms annoying. Also, we all agreed that the pool water should have been several degrees warmer. It was too cold to get in and swim.

| The Mandarin Oriental is close to the National Mall and the Smithsonian Museums. Easy access from Smithsonian Metro stop. Three block walk down 12th street. You can also walk to the L'Enfant Center (about three blocks) to a CVS Pharmacy where you can buy milk, snacks, etc... for the kids. Hotel food kind of pricey.
