Features
What to expect: The 1969 main building is an architectural marvel: a high-pitched Polynesian-style roof has exposed beams through which skylights admit light. New arrivals are escorted, via shuttle, to their rooms. On the verandah, golfers, couples, and families mingle with conference attendees.
Amenity highlights: This 300-acre resort’s gem is the 7,077-yard, 18-hole golf course designed by William F. Bell; guests can take private and group lessons and practice on the driving range (surcharges). Tropical grounds with peacocks surround the main lounge and restaurant building, which has complimentary wireless Internet access and an outdoor pool and sun deck area.
Insider tip: Just a half-mile from the resort lies a 15th-century Hawaiian temple, Kaneaki Heiau. Restored in 1969 to include prayer towers, ritual houses, temple images, and an altar, Kaneaki offers a glimpse into Hawaiian history. Entrance hours are limited.
Kaiona Restaurant - Located in the main building; wraparound verandah. Casual menu featuring local ingredients. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, with popular prime rib buffet on Friday and Saturday nights (subject to change). 19th Hole Snack Bar - Open-air snack bar adjacent to the pro shop. | There is lots of walking if you get a room down the hill. The shuttle service was very good. We hadn't asked for a handicap room, so the shower didn't have any safety bars. That was our fault, not theirs, but something to think about. Since most people who go are golfers, they are also hale and hearty. We weren't. The pool is wonderful!

| We stayed there for 8 days & nights. Very nice grounds and friendly staff. Could have used more frequent cleaning service, but upon asking it was provided. Wish there was a bigger refrigerator. No cooking/kitchennet facilities (knew that before going). The resort is in better area and secluded from town's center. Area is pretty but the west shore seems to be less affluent than the rest of the island. You don't see much tourist, although the beaches were better than the east shore. Not many restaurants around but plenty of fast-food type places for quick and cheaper eats. We basically used the hotel for sleeping & showers. Be out the rest of the day. Were there 8/18 to 8/26. Good place and friendly overall.

| Hotel condition was fair the views were beautiful (Golf course on premise). The area where the hotel is on the west side of the island away from city. The area is about 30 minutes from downtown Hon. The hotel for a reasonable price is not bad we don't spend much time in our room.

| You difinitely need a car from the airport, if you plan on spending time in Wakiki or Honolulu I would not suggest you stay here. In the 11 days we stayed we spent over 150.00 in gas because there is nothing to do in Makaha unless you are a golfer. The parking is not good, especially if you are handicap it could be a serious problem. We saw many people check in and out in the same day. There were two lizards in our room and we had to call the front desk. Most of the staff are nice. The hotel really do need to be renovated. I had mail come in from the main land with my name and room number on it and the staff took it upon themselves to open it. The second package came registered and they denied that it was there. I had to remind them that to take someone's mail is a felony. Then the package made it to me. I would not stay again, the grounds are very well kept. You should be in good health to stay at Makaha. There is much walking between your room and your vehicle.

| The Makaha resort was okay, the walks to and from the pool, lobby, and parking is a good 7-10 minutes away from the rooms. This resort is good for people who are able to appreciate physical activities. The staff was very nice. The food just okay.

| My wife and I enjoyed this hotel and the grounds immensely. It is very quiet and pleasant. The hotel staff were polite and helpful. The views were gorgeous. The west end of Oahu is sparsely populated and a bit undeveloped. The only drawback of the hotel was that it was about an hour's drive to any other part of Oahu. If you drive into Waikiki and enjoy the night life, you still have an hours drive back to the hotel, which is a bit of a bummer. Still, you will not get a nicer property for your money.
