This is a cheap hotel and you'll only get the bare minimum; a very small, clean hotel room. There's no elevator (but a very narrow stairway up to 4th floor), bath is clean and quite OK but in the corridor rather than in-room. It's on 87th street west so not exactly walking distance from e.g. Times Square, but the area is quiet and safe.

We determined to get the least expensive hotel on the upper west side that had AC. We don't mind sharing baths (to a degree) and walk ups, virtually no lobby, narrow hallways, etc. as long as it is clean, safe and easy access. This hotel did not disappoint. The AC was noisy, view out the window terrible and pillows almost not there, but we never lacked for an open bath and our room was cleaned every day with fresh towels. We weren't planning to spend much time in our room except for winding down late at nite with some TV, so to us this was PERFECT. This is not for travelers who want to be spoiled & entertained - we let NYC do that - but for basic lodging at great price it was the right choice

Very small, but five blocks from Central Park, really very good location. Very good for tourists who want to stay 3-maximum 4 days in NYC.

I would give this hotel a barely passing grade. Yes, bathrooms are clean, yes, there is AC, however, AC unit is so noisy, that you cannot sleep having it on. The pillows are so thin, that I had a neckpain from sleeping. We stayed there one night hoping to relax before long international trip, and I do not think our night there gave us enouth energy for the next day.

I stayed at the Belnord August 1-2 of 06. This hotel was infested with roaches. The rooms were well used and about the size of a walk in closet. My room had a small bath. I would not recommend the common bath because anyone, including people off the street can just walk in and use the common baths. The first floor smelled awful. Good location though. Walk to central park, museum, and the subway. Safe area, many residents walk dogs at night. Some do not pick up after them so be careful where you step. Restaurants nearby in walking distance, and some shopping. Stay here if you don't mind sleeping with roaches.

The Belnord hotel offers a decent amount of bang for your buck. It is one of the least expensive hotels on Expedia for NYC, so you should know what to expect. The neighborhood is a nice one, and the rooms are recently updated. However, the building itself is old, and the available space is small. Bottom line, good place to rest your head for a couple nights on a tight budget, not much else.
